You mean they should bring back this theme (which they already did and abandoned):
-
You would also think that with the popularity of pirates over the last five years and the release and success of the POTC movies they might have brought back System Pirates but they did not. The number of people going to the parks is miniscule and a marketing campaign around a new ride with supporting sets would be foolish from a business standpoint. Hey I would rather see a re-introduction of Pirates over Martians (or whatever they are) any day but TLG seems to have their own agenda and since they are returning to profitability it is hard to argue they are making the wrong choices (even though they are. :-$ )
-
Not likely. The Parks are now owned by a seperate company who are building an attraction, not designing sets. I highly doubt there is any coordination between what they add to the parks and new sets. Do you think they are going to create LEGO Vegas sets? :-D

You have to remember that the Nanaimo Bastion was a simple stand alone tower. A place to store weapons and ammo mostly. At Fort Victoria there was one of these at each of two opposite corners between which was a wooden pallisade. It may be a while but if I get a chance I will take some pics.
-
Yep. That is a picture of one of the two bastions at opposite corners of the fort. We stil have Fort Street as a main street in town. A few years ago a heritage project outlined the walls of the fort in bricks set into the sidewalk (where possible). The city of Nanaimo (90 minutes drive up the coast of Vancouver Island) still has a bastion (never part of an actual fort) built around the same time. Two pictures (the colour picture is how it looks today.) To be fair there are lots of other "Fort Victoria's" around the world, but as far as I know we are the only city to evolve out of one and simply drop the "Fort" from our name. *sweet*

And I am getting impatient to see where I live. :-$ From the City of Victoria, BC, Canada website: Pic=link to historical info

Maybe it could be combined with the Spyglass Archive someday to create a global index?

A recent entry for the CCCIV included a viking longship with sails furled and I thought it was a neat technique. Check out this pic.

We would create PirateBricks merchandise that does not infringe LEGO's trademarks. Something like LUGnet's CafePress Store only much cooler. X-D

Amazon Affiliate: websites sign up and use special code to link through to Amazon in a general ad-type link or through a book title/listing. When someone clicks through to Amazon using one of these links it keeps a record of any purchases made during that session result in a small percentage going to the affiliate. Highlighting pirate books and making them links lets people buy books we recommend and get small amounts of money to the site. CafePress: anyone can setup an on-demand print shop through Cafepress.com They have t-shirts, hats, mugs, clocks, bags, magnets... basically anything that can be printed on with a custom design uploaded via a web interface. You set the prices and anything above the "cost" is earned. I am sure we have enough creative types to create some cool items people might actually want to buy.

Great idea! I'd be hapy to chip in 5 euro's and be listed as a "Founding Contributor" or something silly on a history/about page. :) Ongoing money could come in from little ads, an Amazon affiliate program, maybe a CafePress store.

Not a whole lot really just: 1) Time delay/wasted time - as I suggested above IF TLC is willing to even consider the request it could take a long time to convince TLC that it is worth their investment of their good name. You should contact Joe Meno (LEGOFan) and Steve Witt (or the Euro Community guy if there is one) and ask what it took to get LEGOFan off the ground. In the end they could still say no and you would have wasted a lot of time trying to accomplish something. 2) Loss of control - IF TLC allows the use they will place restrictions on what can be said or done on the site and might at any time of their choosing terminate the agreement rendering any work done to promote the site null and void as it would have to be switched to some other domain name. If you have some other positive reasons why using LEGO would be so wonderful then please share. The only positive you have stated is the ease with which people could find the web site. Given the sophistication of web search engines and the narrow area of interest I would think the advantage of having "LEGO" in the domain name is negligible.
-
The one and only non-TLC website allowed to use "lego" in the domain name that I am aware of is LEGOfan and they are tightly controlled by LEGO. Now, that can be fine and good and if you want to make a site under those conditions for Pirates and they are willing, more power to ya. My preference is for sites that are at arms length from the company so we can criticize if neccessary and focus on the ADULT fans. It really boils down to two choices. PirateBricks.org (or whatever) could be up and running tomorrow under the control of the community. PirateLego.com could take months of negotiations and would always be under the thumb of TLC. Now the questions is, are we making this decision as a community in which case lets call the question, or is this a personal project in which we have no real say?
-
Is there no way we could acquire the rights to the domain? Or why not simply register either piratebricks.NET or piratebricks.ORG which are both available? We could even register one or both of those and still try to get .COM to cover all the bases. We cannot use "LEGO" in the domain so lets not waste any more time on that question. As for "Classic", well that actually refers to older themes as opposed to "today's" incarnation and since there is NO current Pirates theme sets it seems a little silly.

LIBRARY: Pirate Torso/Decal/Sticker Designs
tedbeard replied to Bonaparte's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
D'Oh! :S I stopped going through the list after the first few were all custom torsos and just assumed they were all custom designs. Maybe they could be grouped under the heading "Official PIRATES/SAILORS"? :-$ -
LIBRARY: Pirate Torso/Decal/Sticker Designs

Can anybody tell me where to find downloadable versions of these torsos: I want to try some water-slide decal printing but I cannot seem to find these designs anywhere! -
Whoops, sorry. Yes I am. He also has a Castle version which is a lot of fun. Even the smallest public libraries usually have his books becasue they are so popular with kids. Most public libraries also take suggestions on what books to purchase. Just ask the librarian. *sweet*

You might try something called a LIBRARY. :-) This book is available at my local public library and in my kids school library. The author is fairly popular and so many libraries have his books.

Perhaps I have not yet noticed it on other ships but I really find the curve effect achieved with the line and the gunports really effective. Gives it a nice impression without actually having to build at an angle. Definately going to have to use that technique.
