  1. Welcome to EB from sunny Vancouver Island.
  2. Thanks for sharing this. I look forward to building one.
  3. Welcome aboard youngster! Whereabouts are you located? "Back East" I assume? Of course, pretty much everywhere is "back east" from out here on Vancouver Island. :)
  4. I bought some a while ago and I think they are great. Well made and reasonably priced, they are a good complement to the existing solid legs.
  5. Johnny come lately. Everybody knows Cesar Romero is The Joker.
  6. One way to build a "club stash" might be to forgo dues but include a "club" pick in monthly drafts. Doing drafts would, I think, be a popular activity especially for a new club allowing your members to build their personal collections. If your members agree then every round "the club" gets a pick just like anyone else. This could be someone who may not be participating in that particular draft or by consensus amongst the participants or something else.
  7. Wow, that seems like bad timing. BTW what is "LEGO Kidsfest"? Some sort of company travelling show? (We don't get those sorts of things North of the border.)
  8. HUH!?!??!?! But everyone from Portland comes to BrickCon, it wouldn't be the same without them.
  9. Welcome. Maybe I'll see you @ BrickCon in October. I live in Victoria, BC and I usually try to put something in the Castle display.
  10. Love the texture created with the 1x1 rounds and (am I right) the 1x1 round plates in the wall.
  11. Well I read the book as well and though the original movie was fun, it totally bastardized Heinlein's vision so I don't really hold out much hope for any remake. But to suggest that because the Cuusoo project was originally titled "Space Marines" it, "is not at all the same" is absurd. Sci-Fi armoured fighting troops from Games Workshop's Warhammer 40K to the Aliens movies have all been influenced by Heinlein's classic work. The Galaxy trooper in the collectible minifigure series which serves as the base for the Space Marines/Troopers project is an excellent interpretation of the powered suits in Heinlein's work in LEGO form. Exo-armour combined with a spacesuit, what more could you want? How different could it be in minifigure scale? Why on earth are you slagging a Cuusoo project that has already reached 10,000 supporters? I would think you would be happy that it is close to production and while maybe not exactly how you would design it at least it has a chance of being put into production.
  12. I guess you are a little late to the party: Space Troopers has already reached the 10,000 supporters threshold on Cuusoo and is now up for review for possible production. :)
  13. Huh?!!? The US economy has been healthier than ours for virtually all of the last 30 years. The price differential has nothing to do with the economy or even different tax regimes (despite what they have tried to say in the past). And since the prices have not been adjusted even after the Cdn $ has been virtually at par for what, two years now it is clearly not anything to do with anything other than pure, unadulterated capitalism. They charge more in Canada because they can get away with it. Just like they do in Europe and Australia. The United States, land of Wal-Mart, is an overly-competitive market where price-flexibility is a virtual religion. They would charge more in a millisecond if they could get away with it but they are willing to take the lower markup on a larger volume of sales. Don't kid yourself that prices in Canada will ever match those of the US - well, not until the second revolution tears the US apart at which point we will have a lot more to worry about than the price of toys. ;)
  14. Here in Victoria (Hillside Mall) construction has been going for months with a two-level Target scheduled for opening in 2014. They demolished the Zellers (and a chunk of the mall) and started over.
  15. OK, I know I am clueless sometimes but how did I miss this until today?
  16. Nice, the chestnut cart is very good. I am afraid that the idea of a "Hot Sausage Shop" just sends the 13-year old inside me into fits of giggles however. Sorry.
  17. Wow, nice work. Looks even better now. You should sell instructions when (if) they get MocPlans.com up and running.
  18. Sort of. I build my MOCs and modded "Modulars" to fit the PSLTC sidewalk standard that is used regularly for train/town displays @ BrickCon. What this means is a two-plate thick sidewalk rather than a single layer of tiles. Using the two plates makes the sidewalk a little bit stiffer so the lifting that happens with all these baseplates is reduced.
  19. Hey from the West Coast! Nice to have you here.
  20. That is awesome. The shape and overall look is spot on. I especially love the classic shape of the front end and the use of the cheese graters for the grille. The only tiny quibble I have is a lack of "steps" into the front door. But then, I cannot think of how it would done so I'll just be quiet. ;)
  21. I like to use the "2 cape" style that I first saw Bruce N.H. use on Classic-Castle. I used black capes (Harry Potter ones work fine turned star-side inwards) and created Benebrictine monks for my latest MOC: Cloister of St Studmore's Abbey:
  22. Actually Doc Ock's Hideout (4856), produced in 2004, was very specifically from the movie featuring Alfred Molina as LEGO did have the licence for that series of Spiderman movies. If you watch the movie you will see they modeled the set on the movie set and in doing so produced my favorite windows of all time in LEGO. :)
  23. I have ordered from this store more than once and liked what I got. Just to be clear however, this is not a "customs" store. The elements being sold are commercially produced by a LEGO competitor in Taiwan thus they are actually "clone brand" parts even if the items being offered are in no way copies or rip-offs of particular LEGO products.
