  1. I guess I never posted my cannon: Shall we call them 6 pounders?
  2. Congrats, I was wondering what happened.
  3. For convenience here is the link to the Cannon Index.
  4. ^ This. No flying (or indeed undersea) vehicle can be considered complete until it has been "swooshed". In the same way, no wheeled vehicle is truly complete until it has been (even if only gently) "zoomed". And yes even non-functioning wheeled vehicles always get "zoomed" a little - usually on a smooth surface with imagination providing the "rolling" of tires.
  5. You call that micro? I made micro: Yours are excellent BTW. Especially love the "eyes".
  6. Very nice! Nice choice of colours.
  7. Fantastic. I have to concur on the interesting technique for the lower deck.
  8. Totally concur on the model. However it has been a long time since I thought of any Pirate set as anything other than a "parts pack". With all the great MOC ships and forts and other builds for inspiration official Pirate sets all look rather sad to me. edit: Sorry, the Imperial Flagship (6271) is an exception to the above. I think it holds up OK in a world of MOCs. edit2: LOL, of course I meant (10210) above.
  9. What year is this? ;) I think the Movie ship is great, it provides a parts pack. The instructions are a waste of paper for me but those parts look good.
  10. Always love a good camping MOC. The tent design is very nice, not so bulky as some designs. I have to say what I really love is you picnic table design. Great for use in city parks. I think I will have to borrow that!
  11. Seeing this "live" at BrickCon back in October was great. Even better was how nice and generous Alice and David were with their time. I particularly enjoyed their tree-building workshop.
  12. Town Plan (10184): I want to display it somewhere nice/semi-permanently so it will probably sit gathering dust until I get a LEGO room. Ferris Wheel (4857): Got it on a crazy discount, never really wanted to build it but the electric motor adds so much weight for shipping I cannot sell it. Airport (I think it is 7894 from 2006): another good deal waiting for a LEGO room display area that can accommodate it.
  13. I think her solution is simple, elegant and practical. Even if only some of the heads were printed M/F it would improve the situation greatly. I would also like to see more "female" heads with alternate printing that was not simply fear/screaming.
  14. LOL, that is a huge part of most hobbies. Human beings seem to have an innate need to form "tribes". Sports fans choose a team, model railroaders choose a scale, Star Wars vs Star Trek, etc, etc. For the most part good-natured rivalries and gentle ribbing add an element of competition that enhances enjoyment and builds group identity. While tribalism can certainly be taken to extremes in any hobby I prefer rampant tribalism within hobbies to the variety that is practiced in real-world politics. I would rather see people insulting people for choosing clone brands than for the colour of their skin or their choice of sky god.
  15. In my town they sold out within hours of being put on shelves. For the last few years you have basically had to reserve one with a small shop or by standing in TRU when they unpack the crates.

    MOC: Suburb

Wow, I am glad someone posted to this topic. I missed it when you first posted and some of your details are fantastic. I had to blog about it. For some reason I am especially loving your various light fixtures.
  17. Yep, time for a new thread or title change. Or maybe we should just go with a perpetual topic like the train guys do in their section? Sorry for the interruption. We now return to your regulalry scheduled programming. The "new Shakepeare" guy is fantastic. After seeing the recent pics of Revenge I need to start collecting crew and officers so I will need a bunch of that one. :)
  18. You might want to actually look at the pictures for the project: there are ninjas. ;)
  19. I think that you may be overstating the case a little bit. The UCS sets, Cafe Corner series and "Expert" sets like Sydney Opera House or Tower Bridge are not aimed just at children. I have never met a 12-year-old who got a Unimog set but I know several adults who have. As for Simpsons not being kid-appropriate: watching the show may be an judgement for individual families but the marketing for the Simpsons has been aimed at children for years. How could you miss the children's lunch boxes, toys, clothing all designed and marketed at children and even toddlers for the last two decades?
  20. Welcome to EB from the far Left Coast (Vancouver Island)! -Ted
  21. Sweet! Why worry about stanchions at all if you have that! We would kill for that. OK, I see the confusion. I thought you wanted "the ultimate stanchion" that would not be moved by people. For that, you need the crazy heavy and ridiculous to actually build fences. If you want stanchions that are suitable for a day event (but which require staffing of some sort) then I have no suggestions. This side of the Salish Sea we use James' which are 2x2 lumber, mounted in cement filled LEGO buckets (or cement footings with a carpet pad underneath) with two holes in each to pass through rope. You can see them quite well in the pic below but they are heavy and bulky. Not a problem for a guy with a giant van and cargo trailer but for us mere mortals (ie: non-trainheads) it may be too much. :)
  22. Not to be a negative nelly but if you cannot have one member patrolling the perimeter at all times maybe you should reconsider doing the show. At the very least you might wish to rethink the staffing and ask for volunteers outside of your regular members. The one show we have to leave a display up for days and provide our own stanchions is at a local mall. The mall provides a few volunteers to help with the event if our members cannot be there. This is especially handy during the Friday daytime of the event when most of us have to be at work. The only stanchions which will stay in place are heavy and solid, basically fences, and would have to be made of 4x4 lumber anchored to the floor. The only solution is to find at least one person who can wander around the outside of your tables, inside the barrier and gently move them back out every so often. One single person slowly making a circuit every few minutes works really well and has the added bonus of engaging visitors much more easily.
  23. Thank you for all the great detail photos!
  24. Love the bath and the wheels as a planter.
  25. Great layout. The video is really fun. All you need know is a POV video from one of the trains.
