  1. +1 That's a good suggestion. Assuming the OP has $100 in US dollars and not Australian dollars. He didn't mention where he was located.
  2. There are good and bad B models. That's up to your personal tastes. My dusty 8288 is displayed in the B model form. I think TLG does a B model to make life harder for their designers. Not only do they have to meet a cost target, piece count, part selection...they have to come up a decent B model. Perhaps it is in keeping with the old alt builds printed on those classic set boxes to give kids ideas of what can be done with only that set of parts. It also gives us something to complain about.
  3. I think up to the 18th century pink was a color for men. It was ok for men to wear pink. Then something happened around the 19th century. By the last 50 years or so, pink was marketed towards the female group in western society. Chibi Thunderbirds FAB 1 by dr_spock_888, on Flickr
  4. Don't display anything that you don't mind getting lost or disappearing unless you can constantly watch it. You could do a total price comparison and analysis based on your personal situtation. Some things are cheaper to acquire through the Pick A Brick wall (if you live close to a LEGO store). BrickLink can be cheaper but some times PAB Online can be easier for large quantities. There isn't a one size fits all solution. Design your display for easy transport, unpacking and set up. The faster you can setup, the more time you have to schmooze, drink, etc.
  5. They're up on the Canada S@H too. Another month or so of waiting before my Redcoats can abuse some bluecoats.
  6. I used the small train wheels on my MOC of the Stadler GTW 2/6. They seem to run well enough at full speed on tracks without derailing. Plus they help to keep the floor low in trams and LRVs.
  7. You might be able to do a double loop. I could fit a single oval loop on my 6ft x 30in table with a couple turnouts to make a siding to park a some cars.
  8. I don't think it is too hard to MOD in Power Functions to turn the turbine blades for when your hands get tired of crankkng. Is the runway printed tiles? The set looks pretty good but beyond my budget.
  9. I don't think constant giggling would be a problem with adult night in general. Going to LEGO Discovery Center is not like going to a classical concert or play. You're allowed to have fun and be noisy. Typically adult nights are not as jam packed as normal hours (kids + parents)--at least at my local LDC. I feel it is a better experience if you're 18+. Also you don't get into situations of some big person intimating little kids to get at the LEGO.
  10. Should research and development costs of the optic elements be factored into the equation?
  11. They did after I MOD them. I guess I wanted to say if the 42043 doors didn't open like the 8258 then we can MOD them to open.
  12. It looks like they could or we can mod them to open like the old 8258 crane truck...
  13. It is going to be a long summer. Time to save up as others indicated.
  14. The hotel looks pretty good and that grand piano. The 8 wide bus could also work as one of those large campers.
  15. You are a brave man. My cat would think the gravel is part of her litter box and do her business on it.
  16. LEGOLANDs are owned by Merlin Entertainments PLC. They run 105 attractions, 11 hotels and 3 holiday villages in 23 countries. Their management would set the policies. Not sure TLG has any influence how Merlin Entertainments run their business.
  17. So far only $5 this year.
  18. Funny you should mention monorail. The new orange tram has the old LEGO airport monorail style of two long passenger cars on the ends and a short middle section.
  19. The Creator Expert labeling is a recent thing. The Maersk set came out before that.
  20. It is going to be an expensive year with the crawler crane and Actros. Is that a new bucket scooper on the end of the Actros crane arm?
  21. You could send JopieK a PM on Eurobricks.
  22. I use the quickly spin the knob on the remote to get to full brightness technique. Then I just leave them at full brightness while I run the train using the other knob on the remote.
  23. You could sticker over the panels for the less glass look. I think many modern trams now have really large windows. Some have floor to roof glass doors for entry/exit.
  24. We have adult nights at our local LEGOLAND Discovery Center. The gentleman could attend one of those nights. It's a lot quieter and less kid stressful on adult nights. Plus no annoying parents.
  25. I'm liking the orange and trans-black pieces on the tram. Wonder if it can be motorized.
