Cool MOC. You captured the Ultra Agent color scheme well. Lucky grand kids.

If you don't run your trains too fast into the curves, then the tracks won't move. Otherwise, there are different ways to secure them. If you're ok with holes in your tables, then nails or screws. Hole free methods include double sided tape or hot glue gun. If you plan to lay down baseplates, then you can secure the baseplates to the table and then the tracks to the baseplates. Also take into account if you're doing permanent or semi-permanent or temporary track work.

42055 - Bucket Wheel Excavator
dr_spock replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It might have been in the old days when you could make and sell models and decals without getting letters from company lawyers. In the model railroad world, some US railroads only licensed a few companies to sell model decals of their logos. It can be about controlling who and how your brand name and image are used now. Also to make money from your brand name or image. In some industries, licensing can be a significant source of income. These days if you're making money off their brand, most likely they will want their share. -
Welcome to Eurobricks. Great job on the beast. Very cool.

It depends on what kind of sets you're wanting to build. When I started out, I found that buying a few Technic sets on sale were enough parts to build other Technic sets from instructions. Sometimes the color may not match exactly but I'm not spending more money. That was ok until newer sets started using newer parts. Then it was buy those parts or find a creative substitute with pieces I already have. Some times it can be easier to save up and buy that set than trying to get the parts separately. I buy mostly new parts now. Some times a set here and there. In order of value (to me) and wait time to get the part: PAB wall at the LEGO Store is pretty good when you take the time to pack the cups. There are various packing techniques to get the most out of the $19.99. To save on Bricklink shipping charges, you can use local sellers who allow local pick up instead of shipping. Some do, some don't. Bricklink or Brickowl could be the only source for parts out of production. PAB online can be cheaper than Bricklink for some parts and situations. You can get free shipping if your order is $75 or more, plus you earn VIP points. VIP points can be accumulated and redeem for other parts or sets. Bricks'n'pieces is another option but no VIP points and has a flat shipping fee and part quantity limit. LUGBULK can be an option if your RLUG is ordering parts you're interested in. eBay is last resort. I never found eBay that good for my LEGO needs but other people have. Your mileage may vary. With a limited budget, you have to look at the piece you want and determine the best source for that particular piece. Research. I keep some sets together for display. Others I shred for parts. Same with my MOCs. Once a while I get the "Oh MegaBloks, I shouldn't have shredded that just yet."

It shouldn't be hard to replace the Technic cab with a minifig one like this and you can go rampaging through your CITY with it. -

Maybe if the crane was attached to a PTO powered wood chipper, it might be better. Otherwise, it's like they got the idea from a MOD for Farming 2015. -

Orange marks safe spots on the machinery for the little imaginary operator man to grab, step on, etc. I suppose you can replace them with another stand out color for worker safety. -

After watching the video of the product, I agree with you. Someone should try it out and see how well it can run all day. -
Nice to see they are using those straight slope tracks again. They were used before in Indiana Jones Temple of Doom and Batman Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape. Now if they would make some straight flat ones.

I think it is a good part pack too or a starting point for something bigger. -

Sweet, pneumatics. Height adjustable cabin. Is it motorized pump or good old hand air pump? Hard to tell from picture. -

Looks nice. The crane attachment doesn't seem like a normal farming implement. I think I found replacement tires for the Volvo loader. -
Looking good. If money is no object, a 9 section version would be impressive.

Cool MOC LEGO Ideas: If you have a great MOC, that is also a LEGO Ideas project, you may present it on EB as you would any MOC, with a single link to the Ideas entry. Make the title about the MOC, not the Ideas business; don't be too shouty, and it is likely to be tolerated. You need to be thinking: 'I want people on EB to see my MOC and comment on it. If they like it, perhaps they'll support it on LEGO Ideas', rather than: 'I want Ideas support! If I post it on EB, perhaps more people will vote!. Good luck.

End of support for LDD
dr_spock replied to Lasse D's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Doesn't LDD "phone home" to check for new bricks each time you launch it? Theoretically, LEGO could check and count those calls to see how many unique Internet addresses are using LDD and how often it is being used. From that they can get an idea of the size of the LDD user population. They can also see if usage is increasing or decreasing over time. There could be a way to cross reference with Shop@Home shopping data if S@H also tracks the IP address where an order came from. Then determine what percentage of online sales LDD users make up. A more direct way is to put a LDD question in their surveys that go out each time you buy something from. How much did LDD influence your recent purchase? -
Thanks. Thanks. Cool. Welding with a view. I guess it beats welding on your back underneath a car. Thanks. Glad you're still enjoying my photo project. The takeaway is always wear your safety harness and test your safety line before going up.

[MOC] RV
dr_spock replied to Chapachuk's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Awesome build with all those great details. That wheel and tire don't look too happy. You could make some jack stands to rest all that weight on. In real life some RV owners place their RV on jack stands when parked for long periods of time so that the tires don't end up with flat spots. -
Everyone's experience is different. I had children in my Dark Ages. I bought them LEGO for many years before I caught the AFOL bug. It might have been better if one was an AFOL at the time then you would have bought them sets that would be useful to you when your kids lost their interest in LEGO.

Great job. That cockpit window works well. Should post a warning of way too many photos for those of us with slow internet connections.

The position and future of Friends and minidolls in Lego?
dr_spock replied to Dorayaki's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I don't have issues making MOCs with minidolls and mixing those MOCs with MOCs that have minifigs for our LUG events. The girls and some moms seem to get excited when they spot the minidolls in my MOCs. I'm impressed when they can name all the minidolls in my MOC. Then we give them a Friends polybag award. If you don't want your minidolls, give Modulex Guy a shout. I think he is building a Friends army. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=111538 -
It depends on what you the builder is after. If you want discussion centered around a particular build, then it is better to create a specific thread for it. Posting all them in an ongoing thread is great to showcase what you have done over time. It may get confusing if someone new finds your thread and is discussing an earlier build that is several pages before.

Fabulous sub. Love all the play features. -
Nice job. Shouldn't for steam punk that it should be using a steam engine instead of the 12 cyclinder behind the cabin?
