I may try making my whole building as next MOC, but not at minifig scale (28 apartments on 5 levels)
-
Edit: You can find a summary of the whole MOC here: https://antp.be/lego/moc/apt.php Here below is the original first post I made here. ---------------- Hi, Usually when I post a MOC, I do it only when finished. This time, I'll post the several building steps so I can (maybe) take in account the comments.I will take better pictures with a good light when all is finished. So a few weeks (months) ago I started making my apartment ("condo" in US-English?) in Lego As there is probably no one here who already came to my home, I also include a plan/drawing and photos, or else it has less interest... The mini-pictures can be clicked. Here is the plan : As convention, 1 stud = 20 cm. That matches the doors, and more or less the windows. However, the width of the walls is not right: inside walls are only 10 or 15 cm, but here I have 2 studs (to have a different color on each side). Globally I was able to achieve a coherent scale for everything (or almost, that will be for a next post). I started with the bedroom, in blue, then the next room (office/storage), in green, all on green baseplates. Then I expanded for making the living room: At that point, I already moved the bedroom/office part from the original baseplates to other ones to add the living room. In reality, the bedroom looks like this: The light wood floor will be represented by reddish-brown. The closet however is in tan. I use the parts that I had For the walls, it is easier, the medium-blue and sand-green are close enough to the real wall colors. In the office, there is normally a double window like in the bedroom (in a narrower version), but as Lego does not make 1x2x5 windows, I used a single 1x4x5. For the living room and the hallway, it is normally a very light yellow, so I prefered white rather than classic yellow (or even Lego's light yellow, too rare anyway). The door frames are in greenish MDF (we were supposed to paint that, but I still haven't done it ), I choose dark-green for these. I made a Bricklink order for 1x6 plates in dark-green: I needed 28 (increase to 30, then only 26 in the end), and by chance one (and only one) belgian seller had 30 of these. The 1x1 bricks in dark-green from the pick-a-brick wall were well used. At the same time I also ordered 1x2 plates with Arm Up, used for door handles, since I didn't have enough. I tested several systems for the doors (I should have done a photo), this one is the one that seemed the best. For mirrors, I placed aluminium foil behind windows, it is the only non-Lego part. Then I thought that the baseplates were maybe not the best solution, for the final result that would look a little bad.So I transfered everything to dark-bluish-grey plates : All the grounds will be covered with tiles in the end. As I didn't have enough dark grey, I used other colors for the parts that weren't visible on the edges. Pink bricks are there just to hold plates together until walls or furniture do it. For the furniture, I already made the radiators, and I am pleased with the result. Then I finished the doors and started the bathroom: I couldn't make the bath tub deep enough, so I used 1x2 trans-blue tiles to make like if it was filled. I would have done the same for the photo, but the cat was already in place. Then I replaced the 1-brick-height medium-blue frieze by two rows of blue plates separated by white plates, as seen on further pictures. Next, I started the kitchen area of the living room: Here I also had to change colors. After a few attempts with reddish-brown or tan parts, I was still nowhere, so I thought that ready-to-use white cupboards would give a better result, even if it is a little too white. The white tiling will be continued across all the living room and hallway... but I do not have enough 2x2 tiles And no belgian Bricklink seller has enough of these However, on the Lego S@H pick-a-brick that part is at a good price (0.08€) and with some luck I'll be able to find some in the pick-a-brick of the Lego store of Lille when I'll go there in January. The microwave over was difficult. It will look better when I'll replace the two cheese slopes by a 1x2 tile in trans-black. It is not attached, as I could't achieve that despite many SNOT trials. For the refrigerator and the over & cupboard over it, however, all is fixed, but it wasn't easy to have everything right, especially for filling the side behind the doors (with the small offset). Next episode for later

I have some doubts. See the white parts in the bottom-right of the picture? http://antp.be/temp/lego/P1090981.jpg There is one container for the 1x2, one for the 1x4, and the large one of the 1x6 and longer. Similar case for the blue, red and yellow. I can't imagine finding a marsk-blue 1x2 in the middle of all these 1x1 rather than in one on the few small drawers containing all my maersk-blue parts mixed :D (visible at the top of the picture) And if I have a whole tub of maersk-blue parts, I would split them by type like I did for white parts (and other common colors)
-
Being near Antwerp, that was logical :D I had the opposite worry, as I asked them questions with my bad Dutch, but they speak well French too.
-
It looks like all the other Lego stores
-
Really nice building, it looks great, good choice of colors, interesting style! Seeing the pink tiles, I immediately thought "it is the Lego store pick-a-brick effect" However I do not really see the "modular" aspect of it - it does not seem to connect to other modular buildings? (which is not a bad thing in itself, as it is nice as standalone building)

Could Eurobricks staff enable Tapatalk?
antp replied to ryanfitton's topic in Forum Information and Help
It would work better if Eurobricks' mobile theme was also applied for IEmobile: on Windows Phone we get the full version of the site, with no way to switch to the mobile version unlike on Android/iOS. Cf my post here: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=69650&st=25#entry1710312 The Tapatalk app seems free on Windows Phone but it still does not seem so useful to implement (i.e. a lot of work) compared to simply enabling the mobile theme for all mobile browsers. -
At least you got it in USA. In Europe we didn't get that set at all :p http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=7642-1 has some common points to be seen as a newer version of it
-
Yes but we are used to it (note that the Euro price includes 21% taxes, but still...) The more annoying thing is often price differences between neighbouring countries that both use Euro as currency and have same taxes rates, but that's another subject and rather off topic then :D

And as I said on that other thread, the UN HQ is 50 € so the Eiffel Tower may be "only" US$45

Paid Membership with perks? Any interest?
antp replied to Siegfried's topic in Forum Information and Help
I wouldn't pay a monthly or yearly subscription fee, but I would probably make a small donation from time to time to contribute helping to keep the site alive if there is such system added. I do not mind ads as long as they aren't intrusive: banner ads at the top of the page do not annoy me (I am surprised that here I see one only at the bottom, btw). The problems with ads is when they open new pages, insert links in the middle of the contents text, or display ads overlapping the contents of the page. -
For these Architecture models, the $ price is the same as the € price (34.99 € for Pisa, 49.99 € for UN HQ), so if the Eiffel tower is 45 € it may be $45.

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
antp replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
My dad was doing the same :D But I still do not like STAMPs. Other stickers have pros and cons: for sets that I buy just for parts, I am happy when they use stickers as the parts are more easily re-usable. But for sets that I keep the problem is stickers is that they do not stay well when they age...- 2,626 replies

Do you have the set 4518 like I do? ( http://www.bricklink...nv.asp?S=4518-1 ) As in that set there were that kind of "random" parts (in rare colors) Same for 4562 which included even more random parts (cf bags info on http://www.peeron.com/inv/sets/4562-1 , each set contained a random selection amongst there) Due to these, I have many parts in strange colors not really used in sets, only found in these "bricks sets". About old unusual parts, I have a "Slope 45 2 x 2 Double Convex / Double Concave" http://www.bricklink...gItem.asp?P=962 but it does not seem especially rare as it is cheap and common on Bricklink Still useful anyway :) http://mocpages.com/...992/13751972334

How many copies of a given Set TLG makes ...?
antp replied to DrJB's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Maybe some large sets are produced in lower quantities than that? As here a large part of the 20000 copies were probably sold to people who expected to resell them, because of the "limited" status of the set. Though that I would expect that they are selling much more of a set along the 2 or 3 years of its life... -
Nicely done :)

Review Review: 21103 Back To The Future Time Machine
antp replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I updated the instructions for the mod similar to the one posted earlier on this page to reflect the changes I made after the last time I posted them: http://imgur.com/a/By7Bv I thought it was on this topic that I posted that, but I guess it was elsewhere then :D- 207 replies

I thought the same :D They can be useful

Where do Rare/HTF Parts come from?
antp replied to Turaga of Force's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The Purple and Dark Purple aren't very far from each other (I already got the first one by mistake from a Bricklink order, being listed as the latter one). Some of the Technic beams seem to exist in Purple, but anyway the Technic bricks do not exist in any of the two colors.
