There is a major (well, most will likely think it minor) inaccuracy in this set: the forks sticking out from the end of the pallet. Real forks do not due to safety concerns.

For the asking price, suspension should come as standard. I like this set in theory, but the look and details still bug me. The 1x4 tiles on the upper arm (with 42080 on them) don't seem right; surely longer tiles would cover up the garish pins and be able to hold more details. I'm not one to ask for more stickers but in this case more is more. The sawhorse and chainsaw are an unneeded afterthought (notice how the camera lingers on them for a nanosecond before moving swiftly on) and so are the silly accessories (stick to City if you want teacups and toolboxes!). And with those things in mind, attention has not been on the actual details, like the in-cabin controls. The cabin is the right shape, but it's in the wrong position. Granted, the tubing and all would make it hard to place the cab in the middle of the machine. For all that, it's a good concept and seems to do what it was made to do. A little more work on the shape and general appearance wouldn't have gone amiss, though.

Maybe it's too big to get in the shot. Or it fell over and trapped one of the kids.

The steering is cool. Also, it looks like the head folds over to slice the log. Also cool. Shame it still looks terrible, but such is life.

This is the baddest of a.s.s! Great work. Volvo forklifts are pretty rare, but they're out there, and this is a brilliant representation.
-
Maybe it's the fact that Mack is a totally new license for Technic, despite that the fact that it's now part of Volvo. It's also entirely possible that the ZEUX doesn't even exist at this point in time and it's merely something on which Volvo wanted to work with TLG. If you check out 'ZEUX' on Trademarkia, it's specified that the name is to be registered for 'toys and games' as well as construction equipment. The real thing might actually enter the prototype stage at a later date.

That's very true. Plus, now that I think about it, Milan Reindl did mention that people had been asking for a garbage truck for some time while talking about 42078 (I think I was actually one of those voices way back when ) and that the Technic team now had the opportunity to build one! Suppose that is people power in action. I just meant that TLG probably doesn't take our views and desires into account every day of the week. @I_Igor still doesn't have his small tractor tyres... or maybe they're in development now! One can rarely tell.
-
There are still plenty of small (and rather marvellous) sets for those who want them. Plus, does TLG really cater that much to the AFOL market? Not sure if we actually fit into their business plan in any hugely significant way. TLG will do what makes sense to their marketing and development sectors, never mind a few polls.
-
If I think something is crap, I will be unrepentant in my criticisms (42080). If I think it's cool, I will be excited about it (42081). Simple as that. If you think the opposite, then fine.

This actually looks pretty good. Has better dimensions than 42080-B, and better colours! A unified colour scheme would add that final touch, but you can't have everything. The rear half looks like it came from the Mud Masher, and the cab half is from the Forklift, both sets from 1998, so it's precisely 20 years old.

The proportions are totally wrong and both models look clumsily designed, the B-model especially. And maybe the colour debate has been done to death by now, but that doesn't change the fact that this set still looks like a salad on wheels. What is with the two shades of green?! Do TLG have some big lime thing lined up for next year and so needed to disperse the panels a bit? Or is that the case with the normal green? Nothing makes sense with this model right now!

Well said to all of that. TLG have had a real chance to bring something new to the table, and they've blown it big time.

Well put. Although I recently got in touch with TLG about what the 42070 (yes, that dud) B-model was supposed to be, and they had no idea; the guy said it might be some kind of space rover. Not sure as to how much of a handle they have on the matter... Oh, and the downloadable instruction manual thing. Aaarrrrrgggghhh.

I'd think actually getting the box through the front door would be problem one...
