  1. Here's my unofficial Fire Brigade Modular. Built with parts from my collection, PAB, and Brickowl. The main difference is that I used masonry profile bricks.
  2. Also check out Brickowl. There aren't as many stores as Bricklink so the selection isn't as big. Other than that I feel it is better than bricklink in just about every way. The prices are about the same. It looks better, and it's quick to click through the filters to search for parts. But I think the biggest advantage is that the shipping charges show up in your cart, and the payment system is linked to Paypal. So there isn't any back and forth of emails to find out shipping costs and send the payment.
  3. Really cool. Your customs are top notch. How bad was the smell when you cut the heads off the taun-tauns?
  4. This is the first one I thought of. Alien Conquest If you want to check out all the options I recommend Brickowl. They have an easy to use set of filters when looking for specific minifig parts. I know Bricklink has a similar search function but in my opinion Brickowl's interface works/looks much better.
  5. tereglith, Thanks for comparing the various mechs, and for getting pictures of all the parts laid out neatly. You've done some nice upgrades on Lex's power suit.
  6. Kinggregus, The Time Cruisers sets came out during my dark ages, I only became aware of them while searching for pirate ships on eBay. The Flying Time Vessel uses a grey pirate ship hull and it would show up in almost every search for pirate ships. I ended up buying the Time Vessel planning to use it for a pirate ship. But after I built the set as intended and found out that I really liked it for what it was, weird and fun. My obsessive collector instincts kicked in and so I began searching for the rest of the sets in the theme. Thanks for commenting.
  7. Name: 6496 Whirling Time Warper Theme: Lego System/ Time Cruisers, Time Twisters Year: 1997 Pieces: 147 Minifigs: 2 minifigures Price: $22 Resources: Brickset, Bricklink Hello and thanks for checking out my review of the Whirling Time Warper. This set was available in 1997 and was part of the Time Cruisers series. I purchased this set on eBay in 2014 for $7.00, it was complete minus the instructions and box. It can be difficult to find these days but not impossible. Bricklink prices range from about $15 used without box or instructions up to $163 new in the box. Front of Box Photo courtesy of the internet Here is a picture of the set from the 1997 (UK?) Lego Catalog. Here the set is named the "Scream Machine". There is a bit of info as to what the theme is all about. The Parts Yes, that is a bathtub. Also dragon wings and arms. Trumpets! The dish is printed with the "hypno" pattern. The Ghost glows in the dark just like the more recent version. This one has a friendly smile though. The other minifigure is name Professor Millinneum or Commodore Schmidt. The brown wedge-belt wheel is somewhat rare, only appearing in 10 sets. The build takes just 23 steps and is pretty straight forward. There are no part call outs, colors are easy to identify. This is a screenshot of the PDF instructions provided by Lego- it's great they still have these available for 20 year old sets. The Built Set There is plenty of room for Proffessor Millenneum in the bathtub cockpit. The ghost barely has anywhere to ride. Below you see the time cylinder filled with artifacts. Apparently heating knives, studs, and wands with open flames propels you through time. When you roll the W.T.W. the tophat skulls undulate and the crossbow/dragon head move up and down. The cylinder and the propeller spin around. Below you can see the mechanism which causes all the movement. My thoughts It has been said the Time Cruisers theme was a way for Lego to clear out left over parts from other retired themes. This is quite probable. Does it matter? I don't think so. How else are you going to get a bathtub and a pair of trumpets in one go? Sure the sets are weird, but it seems they were meant to be strange and I'm not ashamed to say I like the theme as whole. That being said I have a few problems with the Whirling Time Warper. -It's not a solid build. Many parts are attached by only one stud and will fall off if you are not careful as you pick it up. -The tension from the rubber band will occasionaly pull the whole top of the set off. -It's kind of ugly. The things I like about it -The parts: bathtub, trumpets, trans-blue bubble dome, chrome dagger and crystal -The ghost, I really like the old ghost -The weirdness of the undulating skulls with tophats Ratings Value: ?/10 This really depends on what you end up paying for it. The retail price in 1997 was $22, which I think is too much. I bought it for $7(+$2.50 shipping) which I felt was a steal, it did require watching eBay auctions for several months though. Design: 5/10 It's not pretty to look at but it does have some neat movement built in. It seems unfinished as if it was a first draft with no revisions. Minifigs: 7/10 I really like the ghost. Proffesor Millenneum has decent armor printing. I like that his face is basically a classic minifig head turned evil by adding a goatee and menacing eyebrows. Playability: 6/10 It's fun, my kids giggle at it while pushing it around, but ultimately the play features make the build fragile Parts: 8/10 There are several rare and unusual parts in this set Overall: 4 or 7/10 If you find this set for about $10 it's a seven. $20 or more it's about a four. Thanks for reading. I hope to add reviews of the rest of the theme, if I find the time.
  8. If I'm understanding you correctly your plan is to stack 4 plates and make a groove in them. So you'll be using this and... trying to come up with something like this? Don't use a circular saw. You'll probably lose a finger. I could see it being possibe to add a groove with a Dremel, or similar rotary tool. But it would probably just be easiest to track down the bricks with a groove from Bricklink or Brickowl. I have cut Lego in the past. It was a 32x32 baseplate that I cut into two 16x32 baseplates. I made the cut with an exacto knife. I hesitated to do it, but I needed a 16 wide baseplate and ultimately both pieces maintained thier functionality so I felt ok about it. When it comes to modifying Lego parts some people will tell you it's a sin, but the parts do belong to you and you can do anything you want with them. But really, don't try and use a circular saw on Lego. I just can't see that working out well. Unless what you call a circular saw is different than circualr saws I'm familar with.
  9. Nice work on your first review. You've got a good balance of pictures and words. I like seeing pictures of all the parts as they come out of each bag, thanks for including those. Maybe spread them out a bit next time so each piece is visible. As far as rotating the pictures goes it'll probably need to be done on the hosting site.
  10. I've never been sure if a review has to be approved by the academy before it could be posted. I would post reviews here if I knew they wouldn't be judged too harshly for being ameuterish.
  11. How about a Roller Rink? Lots of hot pink with lavender highlights. It could be only one level since there would be so many interior details, including power functions to get the skaters going around in a circle. And of course it would be a front for underground bunny beauty pageants.
  12. Boba lives! I'd been sad about his death for thirty years. Great MOC and a great story-
  13. Well done Just2good, your reviews have become very polished and professional. You've sold me on this one. The catapult seemed like a weird inclusion considering there are no bad guys. But according to the box it looks like it is actually the squirrel's weapon to use against elves who run off with his nutsack.
  14. Thanks for sharing this, I've been curious how GG would look with the masonry bricks. The bay window looks great, but I agree that the 1x1's stick out. One thought I have is that you could move the left window over a stud and then the plain stack of 1x1's could be between the windows, right in the middle of the building. The resulting symmetry would make the plain bricks are there on purpose rather than out of necessity.
  15. The style of this build is unique and full of great details. I love the curved glass wall. According to the article you linked a real hipster would not patronize Starbucks. It is far too coporate. They will only buy coffee from an independant locally owned fair trade organic certified shop.
  16. Thanks for sharing this, it is great.
  17. Wonderful builds! Great mix of old and new.
  18. I bought the tail from a Brickowl store- several sellers seemed to be parting out the detective agency.
  19. The body is Peeves from Harry Potter. The head is from the Alpha Team Android.
  20. Amazon has something that might be a good option. http://www.amazon.co...=lego education http://brickset.com/...ity-Starter-Set
  21. It a shame they did that. I had an order cancelled once, due to the website claiming they had it in stock. It took about 3 weeks for them to contact me to say I wouldn't be getting that part of my order. I too was dissapointed, but I got over it quickly. I think a big part of the dissapointment came from feeling a personal connection to the brand. It's almost like being betrayed by a friend. But they are a huge multinational corporation and have all the responsibilties that go along with that. If some people get their feelings hurt it is just business. There should still be a chance to get what you want. I saw all of the Castle sets today at the Lego store at the Mall of America, and I'm pretty sure they are still on the shelves at TRU. Or, Like Jodawill mentioned, since you were planning on building a custom castle you could get a lot of parts from Bricklink for the same cost as the Castle sets you were going to buy.
  22. There was this post earlier today- http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=104929
  23. Take a look at these custom figures
  24. I think the cars from the Speed Demon episode could be really cool.
