Tips For Getting Back Into Ninjago
tkatt replied to Chilly_Productions's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
One word- Master Wu Dragon -
I think that when Luke realized that Ben had turned to the darkside and was about to go on a killing spree he grabbed whoever he could and put them on random desolate planets. Rey was probably experiencing PTSD and since she was very young when the Jedis in training were all turned she couldn't remember her own past. Rey seems to have the abilty to absorb other people knowledge and skills. This is the thing about Rey that I think may make her the most powerful Jedi, espescially her ability to learn force powers by reading the minds of other force users. When Kylo tried to read her mind she turned it around on him and read his mind. When Kylo tried to force pull the lightsaber in the woods she did it better. Then while fighting him he got the upper hand he was a better lightsaber fighter but once she looked in his eyes she seemed to learn everything he knew. I'm don't think she is Luke's daughter, if she was why wouldn't he take her with him to the uncharted system?

Nice post Hygrotus. I've read your other reviews and I like that you've stayed true to the Eurobricks style of review. Pictures of completed models are easy to find so I'm glad you included the pictures of parts; in the bags, in a pile, and then neatly sorted. I hope to see more from you.

Mall of America store. They were not part of pick-a-model. I was thrilled to find those parts. It may be worth calling your local store to see if they have them. I went two days in a row, the 1x1s bin was basically full yesterday and down to about 12 pieces today.

I found 1x2 light grey bricks yesterday and light grey 1x1 bricks with a stud on the side. I got about 300 of each yesterday. I realized what a rare oppurtunity it was to get a lot of grey 1x2s. So I went back today and packed in another 520 of the 1x2s, plus a little filler.

Lego train climbing to the second floor.

The engineering you've done is incredible. It's too bad that it is temporary. The spiral is wonderful. -
I decided to be brave and go to the Mall of America store on a Saturday, in December. Several of the Pick a Model bins were empty. There were sold out signs were on the PAM display. Filled my large cup with- 30 1x4x3 windows with glass 180 2x2 tan tiles 60 1x3 dbg bricks 90 1x4 pink bricks 100 1x2 med blue plates 60+ other filler

I felt that adding dark tan was a good idea- but I didn't have many dark tan tiles. I did have a lot of dark tan plates though. I've used them behind the tiles to add some contrast. I've also changed the ground level front and added some interiors. I'm not finished, I still have a bit of interior work and a few gaps here and there to fill in, but I never really most of my projects. I like leaving myself something to go back to. Anyway here are a few pictures of the updates.

Notaromantic, whoops, I guess I should have thought about that post a bit more. Now I have a work in progress thread I didn't expect. Someday I'll learn not to internet long after I should have been in bed... Yes, the elevator works but it could use a bit of refining. When you turn the crank one axle lifts the car while the other lowers the counterweight. I used all the random panels I had to build the shaft. I don't own many tecinic sets, but somehow I have a lot of technic pieces. I've tried to find ways to use them up, so most of the gears are just for show. I haven't figured out how I want the doors yet- sliding doors would be nice, but I'll probably go with standard 4x6 doors. The first picture links to a video. I apologize for the video.
-
I was looking for a way to use up some technic pieces and panels and ended up building an elevator. I then decided to build a modular building around it. I'm in the middle of the build and I'm looking for a bit of advice from anyone willing to give it. I know this thread tends to be about the official modulars, but I think I might get more help here than if I start a new thread. Is this too tall and too tan?

You could try posting your problem in the "embassy" thread http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=19125 . But I don't know how far that will get you. If your VIP account has been terminated maybe you can find a friend who will sign up for the program and place orders for you.

The customer service phone number didn't work? I'd suggest trying it again, making sure you have the correct number for your country. Lego's call center people are generally helpful and I think you'll get much better results than with the email.

You've come up with a great mashup idea PaddyBrickSplitter. The GBHQ scales down really well, all the detail is there to make for a great looking building. I'm definitely going to try a build in this style.

What Other Lego Website's do You Use?

Aside from what has already been mentioned these are my favorite. http://www.newelementary.com -Highlights new parts, also some set reviews http://modularsbykristel.com -Lots of great modular style builds and reviews http://www.thebrickfan.com -News and reviews http://swooshable.com -General info on techniques and some neat "apps" http://www.classic-c....com/index.html - Castles http://www.brickowl....alog/lego-parts -An alternative to Bricklink- I prefer it's interface but it lacks the selection of bricklink http://www.brothers-brick.com - A blog highlighting great builds found around the internet http://shop.lego.com...n-US/ - Another alternative to Bricklink, specializes in new sets -
I have a way to get about $20-$30 of Lego free every month. Bing Rewards. I never see it mentioned, so either people aren't aware of it or just don't want to bother with it. The Bing search engine has a built in rewards program that gives a point for every 2 searches you do. You can exchange the points for various rewards, but the best one is $5 Amazon gift cards. You are allowed up to 5 accounts per household, I only use 4. Doing searches on your PC will get you 15-20 points a day. You can also get another 10 points for mobile searches. So between 4 accounts I get about $1 a day. It may not seem like much, but it adds up. In the past couple years I've gotten about $400+ of gift cards, and therefore about $400+ of free Lego. It takes a little bit of work at the beginning. You'll need a Microsoft account for each Bing rewards account you set up. You'll also need an email account to set up the Microsoft account. Here's the method I've used. Create 4 new profiles in Google Chrome, along with a gmail account for each. With one account go to Bing and sign up for the rewards program. It'll have you sign up for a Microsoft account and then Bing rewards, that should be about all you'll need for the first account(it's been awhile since I've done a new one so some details may have changed) Now you should find a link that says "refer a friend" click it and find the lengthy URL that looks like this ( https://www.bing.com...e6-6efd1690c84a ) email this link to your 3 other new gmail accounts and then sign up for Bing rewards using that referal link. You'll eventually earn even more points for that first account. The reason to use separate chrome accounts is to avoid having to log in and out of separate Bing accounts, since chrome and Bing will remember your log in details. A few other tips- You can do 30 searches in under a minute if you 1. Disable search suggestions 2. Enter a long search term or a random bunch of letters 3.Use tab to highlight the search terms 4.press the right arrow key to put the cursor at the end of the search terms 5. press delete to remove one letter from your search 6. press return to do a new search 7. Get good at this pattern of key presses and finish 120 unique searches in under 5 minutes a day 8. Don't try and use a bot or cheat to do the searches- they are able to tell and will ban your account The link I put in above is a referal link from me, use it if you want, or not. I'm in the U.S. so I'm not sure if the rewards program is offered in all countries or works the same everywhere. Your results may vary, but I hope this helps get you some free Lego.

Lego set designs are always evolving, I for one wouldn't want them to go back to the 80's and 90's style. I prefer a set with a high amount of detail and a smaller footprint. Mainly due to the fact that its easier to display them. They fit better on a shelf and simply look better. And don't forget, a dollar isn't worth what it used to be. For instance The Green Grocer released in 2008 for $150.00 would cost $165.00 in todays money. http://www.usinflationcalculator.com It would be great if Lego didn't cost so much, but I look at it as a challenge. How do I get the most Lego for the least amount of money? Clearance sales, garage sales, thrift stores, eBay, and Bing have saved me a ton of money and helped me build up my collection. It just takes dedication and persistence. The best place to voice your complaints may be that little survey they have in the back of instruction books. Let Lego know what you think and you may just win a free Lego set.

tkatt replied to Beck's topic in LEGO Train Tech
This happens to me a lot. I either sub a similar part that is in the same color or just change the color scheme. But you may be in luck. The Dr. Who set will have dark blue 1x2's with side knobs. They should work in your application, you'll just have them taking up a bit of space inside your train car. -

Unusual suspects sometimes require unusual methods for apprehension. -
No interior yet, aside from a stairway and ceiling lamp. Thanks for teaching me an term I wasn't familar with, "architrave". I love learning new vocabulary, especially when I wasn't expecting to.

Ever since the light yellow color was introduced (reintroduced?) I wanted to use it in a modular style building. Unfortunately there is currently no way up to the roof. My daughter added some details to the back for me. I built it to go along side another MOC of mine to form a 5 stud wide alley. Thanks for looking, comments and suggestions appreciated.

Bricks and Pieces works just like pick-a-brick and is sort of hidden on the customer service page. Click on the customer service link at the top of the shop at home homepage. Look for the link to "bricks and pieces". It asks you for your age and country, then you can enter a set number or element number to find the part you want.

You should check the Bricks and Pieces section.
