It's a bigger market, so costs are easier to spread. There's more than enough competition in the Netherlands, it's quite easy to not pay the RRP for most sets, if you avoid the biggest toy retailer over here. Also, Germany is "around the corner" for at least a quarter of us Dutch (Oberhausen is just a little over an hour's drive for me). It's just with these pesky Modulars (and most other Creator Expert sets) that they're really hard to find for less than the RRP. I did have a bit of luck a few months ago when Intertoys had a nice discount and the Intertoys in our city also stocks the Modulars and did include them in the discount, so I was able to get Brickbank at a very reasonable price. A large chunk of our Christmas Bonus will go to a new computer (and has already been spent on some other "toys"), so maybe I'll just sit this one out for a bit, until another nice discount comes round. € 260 is quite a lot of money...

I agree. Yes, when compared 1:1 with the real model, a few details are missing (handguards and if we're nitpicking any levers and switches on the steer, come to mind too) or wrong (honestly, in general the shaping of the tank is way off, though the tires are a viable option on a bike like this, especially if you want to go out adventuring). But on this size and more importantly: at this price point there are limitations to what's possible and to be expected. I think that without the logos and maybe even the iconic headlight arrangement any motorbike enthousiast would still immediately recognize this bike as the model it represents. Still: thanks for the otherways - as always - entertaining reviews! Should've watched the one for the roadcrew before I ordered is because I do agree with you about that set: it's a bit underwhelming. My girlfriend liked it a bunch though.

Technic 2017 Set Discussion

Bike and roadcrew just arrived here... one more day of work tomorrow and then a perfect start for the holidays! -
I think you left one thing out of your translation which I think is interesting... Which translates into "thanks for notifying us, we will give you a free set as soon as these are available again!" So... what's that about?

If I'm honest, I find the Pizza Van a bit unimaginitive. In the end it's just one of the standard city designs, reconfigured a bit. Like in the real world, offcourse. I'll get it anyway, it is a fine set. I do like the little van in the Friends Pizza Set of next year: Inspirational. Nice little bakery too!

Someone else saw that too... And yes, I believe they're new mudguard pieces. Very welcome for the more utilitarian look.

[Lego S@H Promotions]No London bus for Europe?
jfbat replied to Doge's topic in General LEGO Discussion
What a weird promo set... I'm not seeing the "City" connection here, either. And in no way comparable to that London Bus.- 16 replies

Well, I've finished it. Somewhere to the end of the build I really got into the vibe of it becoming a Beetle, and I really enjoyed that. But when I built the roof and finished the car, I was also left with the feeling that it's just not quite a real Beetle. It's the just a bit too upright position of the windscreen, just too little of a curve in the back upright pillar and the just a bit too square roof that throws it off for me. With squinted eyes and the knowledge that this is supposed to be a beetle, it is. But in reality, it's a good try, close, but no cigar... I feel the only way this could have really worked out, was to make it a bit bigger, say, the same scale as the Mini. That would have created the space to get those details right. But that would have meant that the set would have easily reached the 140-160 euro price bracket and that's just not where Lego wants this series to be, I think. So for that reason, I think this is a great set for the money. It surely was a nice and interesting build, which took me (a reasonably experienced Lego-builder) some three hours to finish. Still a bit miffed about the 15 euro price difference with our German neighbours, though...

Ordered mine wednesday evening and it arrived today. One-thirds into the build (bags numbered 1 done), took me roughly an hour. Some interesting techniques, entertaining enough for me!

Wow, tilting that windscreen indeed makes a lot of difference! My girlfriend though it was a 2CV, like a lot of people. It's jut that little bit off...

Usually I don't pay full price either, enough opportunities to get most sets for less. But in recent times more often than not these special sets don't come at a lower price, or ar even more expensive at non-lego stores. Plus I wanted this set asap, so, well, there you go.

Yep, ordered mine today too. Even though it bothered me quite a bit that we're paying € 15 more here in the Netherlands than our friendly neighbours to the East. Sorry Lego, but that just does not feel right.

[MOC] Esso Gas Station 1953
jfbat replied to Norton74's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I remember it from the time it was a BIM station, but I read on wikipedia that it has indeed now a Gulf station. It did however start out as ESSO. Haver come by it by bus almost weekly when I had bandrehearsels there in the nineties.- 50 replies

Well, that was a completely different kind of set, a last one to be totally brick built without curvy parts and for that, I like it a lot. I have it, and it remains one of my center showpieces. But I'm getting this one as well, very well done, Lego!
-
I think it looks very realistic, well done! In reality these can be quite big machines and I think you got the scale about right. The cabin could have been 1 stud narrower maybe, 3 wide.

42056 - Porsche Speculation
jfbat replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I think @TheNextLegoDesinger is hoping that this set will have a lower price at the usual retailers that usually do this (there are a few over here in the Lowlands). I got the Arocs at quite a discount the day it became available at retail, so it is a possibility. -
I'm guessing it's a USA thing. This LEGO set is actually the first time I heard of it. Can't remember ever seeing it referenced over here in the Netherlands. That might be because I never watch CN and CN mainly advertises in children focused advertising spots, which I also don't see. So, that balances it out a bit then for this review-result: a European thing in the Caterham (for us Dutchies it's not even that hard to mod it to a Donkervoort...) and a USA thing for Adventure Time. I was rooting for the Caterham and I'm fairly confident LEGO won't mess it up too much, since thay've brought out some pretty OK model cars in recent years. Though I would not have bought it, I thought Little Prince had a fair chance of being selected. Indeed: maybe some weird licencing issues... Also, it seems that they'd almost forgotten about the postponed decision about the Hornet. But I'm not really surprised they deciced not to go with it.

For sake of consistency, it is indeed preferable that they didn't change the design too much. It would look awkward if two fighters that in "real life" should be the same bar the colours, would differ too much. But. There has been a fair bit of criticism about the design of Poe's fighter. And I agree with most of that criticism. The wings are not quite right and the nose to cockpit line is off. It is the reason I have been putting off buying that, more so when I heard that this new one was going to be released. I was really hoping they would have righted some of the "issues" with this new one. Especially since the LEGO design team has had plenty of time to study the craft as it appears in the movie. The fact that they didn't might be justified by the reason I mentioned above, but it also means I'm switching to plan B: try and buy the Poe one at a nice discount.

I've got this polybag. The "seat" is made of two jumperplates positioned lengthwise. Which kind of, but not realky works. I don't quite understand why they didn't use a 2x2 plate, which would have seated the minifig better. As a set I like it, though. It ain't much, but doesn't cost much either. And it's perfect for a little streetbuilding scene in a town.

Well, I'm ging with the flow and anounce that I too like that Fun at the Park set a lot. It's kind of what most people seem to hope the Advent Calender turns out to be, but never does...

That, without a doubt, is a very impressive model! Well done!
