You mean to say it all wasn't real? No! Noooooo! *wakes up from a re-re-remastered Star Wars dream to realize that sadly, some things don't change back*

The orangy-yellow used approximates a typical McLaren color. I think it's spot on for this car. The set itself - well, not so spot on for me, I'm afraid. Had it in my hands again, yesterday, and put it down again as I have done quite a few times now. The proportions just aren't right at the front and the back looks like a rushed job. Tried to figure out wether I could modify it, but there that unique color kind of spoils it. I have no bricks in my inventory to fill up gaps that might have to be filled up without looking out of place due to a difference in color. So I think of the current sets the ones I have now (porsche, laferrari) will remain the only ones. I kind of like the large ferrari set, but it's way more expensive than what I would want to pay for it (partly because the truck would need some modding (lights!) and won't fit in my city). The twin Porsche set is also nice, but again more expensive than I would like it to be.

Wow.

I've got the LaFerrari and the Porsche. I've left out most of the stickers and think the cars still hold up. I've replaced the grey cheesewedges of the Porsche with clear ones, so I didn't have to use the stickers to create the headlights, since I didn't like the stickers for that at all. With the LaFerrari that was not really an option, but the stickers work better there. The rest of the series either doesn't really appeal to me (the McLaren kind of looks wrong, the other Ferrari uses way too many stickers) or is a bit too expensive for my liking...

The minute I saw the first pics of this set, I liked it a lot. I think it's great lego does these little polybag-sets, because for a little money you often get quite a lot of play-value. This set is a nice addition to any city, with room for modding for those that want to and has some nice partts for modders that are not especially interested in the fnished vehicle.

Yep, I also was a bit shocked when I saw how much "brick" there is on those new fenders. Still: they did find a way to put it in a quite ordinary truck in the new town square set, so maybe it's not as limiting as its size might suggest.

Nicely executed, but I think your chances on ideas are slim. There's a very similar idea on there already and - as you mentioned yourself - lego actually has a set out now with an also very similar (but a bit simpler) plane in 60070.
-
Well, there's that swamp police water plane, but I'm guessing that's quite what you mean... ;)

Yep, as soon as the first pics emerged people (including me) noticed this. Lego sure makes good use of some of the new parts.

42040 Fire Plane
jfbat replied to timtimgo87's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
What a nice plane. I was fearing that this year would be a bit of a dissapointment, but they seem to have hidden some nice sets form us up until a week or two ago. Well, I say "fearing", but might as well have said "hoping", since this is going to cost me dearly again. Especially since next to this plane the Arocs also is a "want" for me. Luckily the City line hás been a dissapointment, so that frees up some budgets... -
My exact same thought upon first seeing this set. Yes it's big and yes on second thought I like how they did this as a model, but € 200, wow. And then I realised: this is a SW UCS set. But still... So, late that afternoon at TLG HQ... "we've got to make a clip for the TIE UCS. It's € 200 so it should at least be about 3 minutes" "Err, okay... hmm, right. Well we could talk about the hatch and the stand and the wings and... 3 minutes you said? Well, the info plate then, ah well, we'll do it on the fly." "By the way, the stickers just arrived so I'll stick 'm on quikly".

Bought and built the main build of 31036 today. It was a fun build and certainly worth the money I paid for it (25% off RRP), but also quite small for a Creator building, especially when folded up. Even the log cabin kind of sets of the last years felt more substantial. It does have some nice details and I'm looking forward to building the newsstand that I actually bought it for and that will get a place in my city. But all in all it feels more like a City set than a Creator set and that's mainly down to remembering the big creator houses of a few years ago. I'm certainly happy I have a few of those. Oh, and those open backs are a real City reference too, offcourse.

Well, it is 2015, the "future" in Back to the Future, so a tram with gullwing doors is nothing out of the ordinary.

yep. Came to that conclusion on brickset yesterday. Also, we're finally getting regular trucks with larger tyres than cars.

I'm underwhelmed by the town square set, especially for the pricepoint it's at. Ah well, leaves some cash for that Technich Actross.

I'll give this one a "miss" this year too. The truck - it's just the umptieth rendition of this theme, although I like the way they did this one. It just doesn't fit in my city that well (and I've got at least half a dozen of them already). The plane - what a great build, almost perfect. As soon as I saw the first pictures of this set, I started to try figure out how it's been built and think I succeeded. Since then I have progressed a bit with the design and have almost finished my version of it - no floaters for me, but wheels and a larger body too. So while the set won't be bought by me (well, I'm not planning on buying it), it did give me a great idea and starting point for a build of my own. And that's what I love about Lego.

That's not necessarily the case: we have a few non-official Lego-stores over here in the Netherlands that do often stock these presumably "Lego-shop only" sets for a competitive (i.e. lower) price. A bit of patience is often required, though, it might take a few weeks konger than the release and sell date at Lego. I'm guessing these town sets are primarely targeted at kids as a complete play set, and in those you'd want some buildings, some vehicles etcetera. If you only want one of the vehicles or something like that, just get the instructions and build it yourself (maybe bricklinking it). To be honets, of the summer wave of city sets, at the moment I'm only interested in that city square, but first some pictures. The rest of the sets/themes... meh.

Just got it via Facebook. Nicely done, this one!

I'm already trying to build my own version of that seaplane. Might have to go to the store for some, eh, "replenishments"...

Spotted that one too last night. I've got something to do these days, besides lazing round the house for the holiday season... Don't mind much for the umptieth 4x4 of this design, but that plane is very well executed! Anyway: the first 2015 sets have turned up over here in the Netherlands. Saw a complete diorama of the police and demolition site in a store, too, with moving parts. Looked nice, and the construction toys do look better in real life than on the pictures - spare for that loo-truck, which still doesn't do that much for me. Bought none, because they only had the larger or not very interesting smaller sets.

Yes. As I said: I have at least 10 of these white ones and quite a few in other colours too. All in all I would say I have more than 30, maybe around 40 even. SpacySmoke has already pointed out which sets contain them. I guess it all comes down to what sets you have. ;)
-
Nice review! I might get one of these sets, just for the heck of it. These are quite common and everybody who has a recent City 6-wide truck has at least one of these. The come in a variety of colours, I must have at lest 10 of these white ones.

Well, my order will arrive tomorrow, according to the shipment info from postnl. Must admit that's faster than I thought - well within the express delivery timeframe - and I chose the Standard delivery that should have taken longer than that...
