Technic 2H2014 Reviews
rollermonkey replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It always amazes me that you can make these reviews so long... I look at the runtime and think 30 minutes? I'm not watching that whole thing! . . . Then watch the whole darn thing. -
The Lego Movie sets have thrown the release schedule out of whack. The thought was they were increasing desire for them by doing so, but I think looking back, and the crazy speed which Cloud Cuckoo and SSS! flew off the shelves, they probably didn't need to. I'm going to be so poor come August 1... New Star Wars AND Technic? Yikes.

LEGO Star Wars 2014 Pictures and Rumors
rollermonkey replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
It's the size of a frickin' star destroyer set! That may be very close to minifig scale, and if it's a prototype, they will likely cheese-wedge it up to make those larger curves smoother. -
At first glance, I thought "what a cheesy little boardwalk amusement park... why does the roller coaster look like it's unfinished?" Then I read the text. Then I watched the video.

You've got the bottom for the 1980's Police Boat, for one.

LEGO Star Wars 2014 Pictures and Rumors

I realize that this is the SW forum, but if you think that TLG hasn't figured out better ways to do complex curves, you should check out the Creator Expert Sydney Opera House. Fantastic (and accurate) reproduction of complex curves. I've got no qualms that they can do Slave I correctly. -
How is Blakbird's T-47 Snowspeeder not in the Hall? Is there a rule against Star Wars models using Technic? Or just against Blakbird? http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=96421&hl=blakbird

LEGO Star Wars 2014 Pictures and Rumors
rollermonkey replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
If one is a UCS Boba Slave I from Empire and the later one is a System scale from when Boba first lost his dad or so, it could work. I mean we have had a UCS and System X-Wing simultaneously for the past year. -
Pretty cool way to use what you have. Is that round LBG plate part of a stand, or is it part of your SSD?

42009 Owners ... Speak Up!
rollermonkey replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Just finished mine. (and played with it for a little while) It's the first purely Technic set I've built since either 850 or 854, and WOW but there are 100's of new Technic components that never existed back then! I knew there were going to be from doing stuff like the UCS R2D2 and similar sized sets, but that did not prepare me for the HUGE variety in this set. I'm probably going to make the 42030 my next Technic set whenever it gets released here in the US, I'm not lucky enough that it will provide everything to do Jurgens' MOD, but it will certainly get me a lot closer and because that looks even more amazing and I really think that it deserves for everything to be motorized. -
1300 trans pieces for just the windows? As awesome as it looks, sadly they'd never make a set that big through IDEAS.

I'd have to say that Cloud Cuckoo Land is the set least accurate to the movie. ;)- 228 replies

Review: 70814 Emmet’s Construct-o-Mech
rollermonkey replied to gogglev's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The big problem seems to be that if you can make it full-scale from the movie, and fully posable, that it won't be able to stay standing without help. I think that's probably the biggest problem they likely had with making a set for release, too. -
LEGO Star Wars 2014 Pictures and Rumors
rollermonkey replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Huh? I've not heard anything about Slave I appearing in the new flick... Falcon, yes. Jedi hunters, yes. Boba, on the other hand, it appears will be getting his own stand-alone movie in 2016, so you can bet Slave I will show up for that. -
I'm glad I went with 42009. Despite my last pre-dark ages sets being 850 and 854, (yeah, I'm old) picked it up yesterday, and I'm up to step 32 in book 4, and everything seems to be going well. I had to unwind steps twice earlier, but nothing too drastic. One was a bevel gear on the wrong side of its mated gear and the other was a 4211567 I put in 90* out of position. I just keep checking everything meshes and spins freely every few steps. :)

Did you actually test to see if it would hold water? :D

I came out of the dark ages about a year ago, starting from the Architecture line and since then I've built several Star Wars UCS sets and some Creator Expert sets including most of the Modulars. I'm thinking about jumping back into Technic with 42009... Anyone think I should start smaller? 42006 or 9397 maybe? Or are the instructions for that big-@$$ crane clear enough for someone who's not made a technic set since the 80's?

With the summer wave of Star Wars dropping in the US in August, it won't be hard to get to $99.

Any improvement to the cargo hatch access? Or is that a lost cause?

My 4YO daughter says that you need 'hands' otherwise it isn't a dragon. -
100% Lego flight attempt

Are those the pullback motors? Does it work? (And how much fun is it trying to hold three from spinning while winding the 4th?)
