LEGO Star Wars 2014 Pictures and Rumors
rollermonkey replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Maybe the Lego Movie retailer exclusives took the place of the Star Wars one at one of the retailers? -
I did buy them from TLG, and fortunately nothing was out of stock... I just need ALL of the extra parts above 20049, so it's like $200 just for PF. I got one of the kits with the battery pack, M-motor and lights, the XL- and L- motors, one each IR controller and receiver and the extension wires, which came to $105. So, I still need 4 more M-motors and 3 more IR pairings, but I just got the crawler, so I can scavenge the IR components from that to save money. Oh, and I got the metal hook from BL in the mail today, too. What are we going to do with all this IR stuff when we get our SBricks? I'm probably going to have quite a few of the beams and gears in the Construction Crew set, so I won't order anything else until I've gone through that build.

2015 The LEGO Movie rumors and discussion
rollermonkey replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Wishful thinking. As crazy as the demand was for Cloud Cuckoo, largely because that was the set with her in it, coupled with the extremely limited availability of SDCC exclusives, I'd be surprised if she isn't actually significantly more expensive than recent figures. -

Average shelf life is two years. After that, when exactly they disappear is dependent on demand. -
The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion

Probably not going to happen. I was buying the Blu-ray anyways, so the difference between the two-pack and the top-tier wasn't so bad as if I was buying the whole thing just for the figure.- 2,626 replies

If you have a few pieces left to build with, maybe you could use a couple frames to make a dumpster for it to lift? -

Pledge levels are progressing pretty nicely... Over 13,500 GBP already in just the first 5 days. We need to get this out to all the LUGs as well as those sites mentioned above. Maybe start a BrickLink article, and get the US-based web sites on board... I think this has a great chance of hitting all the stretch goals as long as the word gets to all corners of the Lego community.- 771 replies

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
rollermonkey replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Oops! I just thought it was like a battlepack with the three characters and the micromanager. Prologue Vitruvius is an exclusive pack-in with the top tier Blu-ray release. I just realized that even though I have 5 TLM sets, I don't have a single micromanager.- 2,626 replies

I ordered all the parts (no printed tile) for like $15 from BNP, so you're paying an extra $70 for the printed tile, box, instructions and autograph.

I have so many Emmetts... I could certainly stand to see a couple more sets where he's not included. -

You must not have noticed the compartment behind the cockpit under Unikitty's seat then... It only has two more internal seating positions, but it could probably hold at least 4 or 6 minifigs with modifications.- 228 replies

LEGO Star Wars 2014 Pictures and Rumors
rollermonkey replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Pick up the phone and call the store. Seriously. Why doesn't anybody do this any more? -
Loki as a fireman, guy with gun and glasses, girl ninja, guy in drag Seriously. Wah, wah, wah, there's not enough female minifigs in non-female-centric roles... Where are the female cops, etc... Lego provides female minifigs in non-female-centric roles. Wah, wah, wah, why do the female minifigs have to be stereotypically female with hourglass torso printing and makeup... Lego gave us EXACTLY what was asked for, and as usual, it still isn't good enough for some people. Minifigs, by their very design are very generic. Due to our culture's male-dominated history, this means that generic images are generally interpreted as male. For something generic to be interpreted as female by the majority of people, some concessions to female stereotyping must be made. Lego didn't create the male-dominated world history that we live with, but they do a damn fine job of trying to accommodate reasonable public requests while also remaining profitable. Get over yourself if you think they aren't. Don't like torsos with hourglass printing? Don't buy them or sell the ones you have on BL and replace them all with male torsos. Don't like makeup printing on heads? Same thing. Just don't complain when other people can't see your choices of figures as female, because they've got a lifetime generations of preconditioning telling them what the visual cues are for both genders that don't align with your own viewpoint.

The other stores may be contractually obligated to observe the August 1st date, or they might get stock out soon, too. You could always pick up the phone and ask. -

The Lego stores almost always put sets out a few days before a wave launches on the website... Some sets are locked into specific dates though, and even if they have them early, they can't put those out. Aside from those, I believe it's manager discretion if they want to try and squeeze the new stuff onto the shelves early. -
Picked this up today, mostly as a parts pack for eventual amusement rides MOCs... I laugh at the complaints that it's too simple, etc. It is clearly intended as an entry-level Technic set. If you've been making multi-motor, massive-scale, remote operated multi-function MOCs for years, you're not the target audience. Get over it, guys!

Model Team Definition
rollermonkey replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Some Creator sets use quite a bit of Technic parts, even though you might not be expecting it. Sydney Opera House is my prime example of this. Without beams, pins and ball joints, that set wouldn't look anywhere near as good. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
rollermonkey replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
As I understand end of life distribution, at a certain point, TLG starts having the LEGO Stores ship back remaining stock of the end of life items to make shelf space for newer sets. Since the demand for sales at that point is all over the place from speculators and people making a last second purchase before it's gone, they don't actually know how many will get back to the S@H warehouses and when. Some stores must have sent a bunch back, so your order was moved up. At some point, TLG will know that the last sets have been returned and there might be a very small window of time where they'll go on clearance and get snapped up in a couple minutes.
