Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
rollermonkey replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I'm calling Lawyer's office on the second floor, now what do we envision for the other half of the set? If they don't do this, I may have to MOC this pair of buildings myself: Roof Private Detective's Office Lawyer's office Laundry Roof w/ pigeon coop Loft Apartment Hardware store -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
rollermonkey replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
A detective's office seems like something to be incorporated as a 3rd story office as part of a pair of 16-wide buildings, as opposed to something to base a whole modular around. . -
Finally, some people who agree with me on this. I keep laughing about people who have been posting around the 'net that they can't find pictures of 'the back of Trevi Fountain' so that they can compare it to the set 'to see how accurate it is." The joke of course is that there is no back, only a bunch of buildings that are all connected to each other.

If you think this Cantina is little, you must have not paid much attention to the old one. That said, I'm still getting two of these to MOC together into one, more complete cantina.

Built this last night... While not bad at all, I wanted to love it, and I don't. I think the set really deserved the chrome parts, as it just looks far too dull without them. Still love the Venkmann and Stanz figures though. <3

Well crap. That means actually poring through all those pages of the instruction trying to figure out if/where costs can be cut, or just buying the right color.
-
Here's a lazy question: Do any of the technic beams or frames show from the outside? Or can one use whatever color is cheapest for those?

How very odd that the most recent (minifig scale) Falcon used stickers for those grates when the older ones used printed parts that aren't even discontinued! Those other stickers are very subtle! I didn't even notice them.

You have to have a gap, one way or another. Either the way they did with a vertical space, or space between the tiles. Real drawspans occasionally get around this with teeth on both elements so that the gap is less obvious, but that would be tricky at the scale of TB. I have it too, and although I found it odd at first, it doesn't bother me any more.

I'm not sure the sticker count will be as high as people are expecting... The gauges are a round tile that has long been an available printed part, the radio also looks to be a printed tile. The pinstripes are printed, as the designer made special note that it is the first time they've printed on that particular round part. That leaves the 2 types of Mini logos, the 2 round tiles in the engine and the license plate as potential stickers. The round tiles look exactly like the grates on top of the Millenium Falcon, which are stickers. The round logos on the rear quarters look to be stickers on top of the printed pinstripes. The mini logos front and rear look like stickers. One is on a curved part, the other is on a tile... At least the tile one will be an easy application. The license plate in the pictures is a sticker on a tile. Even TLG applied this one crooked. :D So 7 stickers? That's not all that bad, and TLG has surprised us before with having printed parts that were stickered in the official demo pictures, maybe we'll get lucky with a couple of them.

Nice. I always thought the Mini was a pretty neat little auto, and although it isn't exactly British Racing Green, it'll work.

Sorry, most of the rumors of a superhero-themed UCS set seem to revolve around a Batman's Tumbler, not a Batwing.- 2,626 replies

I like that you incorporated the bicycle ramp. Haven't seen that since I lived in Japan.

Well, seeing as how you've gone that far, why not finish up the rest of the building?

Hoo boy... That's probably not going to be a Day 1 purchase if the Star Wars Summer wave hits that day, too. Is the back of the big portico a single large panel?

My local store was told that they would not be getting any more London Bridge in January, and have continued to receive more of them on a regular basis. The set has been on the list for potential retirement for quite a while now, and with the Sydney Opera House in the lineup, I'd be surprised if they aren't just depleting the last production run now, and when that's gone, it's gone forever.

Well, my local store is still restocking the Benny shelf several times daily, which is more often than any other TLM set apart from Cloud Cuckoo.- 2,626 replies

Ugh. I'll get this since I have all the others, and to see how the offsets work out, but I'm still not pleased with the choice of Trevi for this line. With the reduction in scale to get down to a reasonable price-point, we're left with a superdeformed abstraction of the original. That's a shame, because the original is actually a fantastic work of art. This simply cannot do it justice.

Super lame that they'd reveal the set on the Facebook page and main site, but not include release information for those regions that didn't actually already have it available. /FAIL I mean, it's been available for more than a month in some places!- 180 replies

LEGO Star Wars 2014 Pictures and Rumors

Same length as the new ISD?!? Holy... That's going to be HUGE. I mean, Slave-I's wingspan is about 3/4 the length, and it's about 1/3 as tall as it is long... -
Um, why does it have an envelope for the front license plate?
