Taxes in Italy are lower... At least that was my impression when lived there. Germany always seemed more expensive for everything... and Spain always seemed even cheaper.

The fans should NOT all turn the same direction... Fans on the port side should turn one way, the fans on starboard the opposite. Otherwise the aircraft would begin to counter rotate, since there is no tail rotor like on a helicopter.

LEGO Star Wars 2015 Pictures and Rumors
rollermonkey replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Both of the LEGO stores near me are nearly always sold out of Ghost and Phantom now, whereas last year, they couldn't get them out the door. Pretty much the same for the TRU stores, too. TIE Advanced Prototype and Ezra's speeder have flown off the shelves since day 1, but not the AT-DP. The Wookie Gunship doesn't even feel like a Rebels set to me... But the stores always have plenty of it. I think the popularity of the show with the DisneyXD demographic is doing just fine. :) -
[MOC] Sarlacc's nectar and the truth about Boba's escape

Right after looking at this, I saw it again on Yahoo! via Toybox... Might grow legs. :) -
Lego Star Wars Rebels sets partly taking over?
rollermonkey replied to James Wellington's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I have no idea how much or how little merchandise they had, but I had Pete's Dragon and Herbie merch as a kid. The catch is that all three are Disney properties, so they are automatically comparable, as aside from Lucas, nobody was marketing toys based on licensed properties to kids as much as the House of Mouse was... And yet all that stuff died and SW movies and toys never did... The point stands that the simple fact that we get ANY original trilogy merchandise is highly unusual in the field of licensed toys. -
27:10 21:6 10:4 1:3 23:2 32:1 honorable mention to #18 I tend to like the submissions that are somewhat unique, but there was quite a bit of that this time! Lots of cool designs, some fantastic in appearance, several seem to be absolutely MASSIVE. Great stuff!

Since 'T's only come in light grey, I can understand why it's difficult to make horizontal pipes... What about the old space 'guns' and robot arms? Both of these are available in blue, red, yellow and green: Might work if you can get your hands on them?

Why are there less reviews than before on Eurobricks?
rollermonkey replied to kinggregus's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Standards for reviews here are pretty high... That might actually discourage people from participating. Like I joined the Academy, then after reading through, realized that I basically needed to create a photo studio and get photoshop and become an expert with it before any review did would be up to standards. That prevented me from wanting to even contribute basic reviews that weren't up to standard. My old hobby was amusement parks, and would do trip reports all over the world. The problem was that it got to a point that all anyone wanted to do was take pictures of stuff, and the photo subjects were getting more and more involved in minutia, and more and more time in the parks was being spent taking pictures than actually enjoying the parks... So I stopped taking pictures and drifted away from the 'enthusiasts' and started just going to have fun... Maybe something similar is happening with reviews here? People just want to build. -
ideas for good under structure building
rollermonkey replied to amanda's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Some people use Duplo or Technic for interior structure on larger MOCs, but I think they are trying to stay pure LEGO. Other solutions have previously included metal frames for extremely large designs. -
Still no sign of the 24-Hour Racer or motorcycle on the LEGO store upcoming sets lists in the US. :/

I have it. I like it. I don't have an earlier version of a Star Destroyer, though, so it's a no-brainer for me to have bought it. It's an Imperial Star Destroyer. What's to understand? -
Anakin's Custom Starfighter They can't keep quite a few things in stock: Battlepacks, the two OT Microfighters, the TIE Prototype, the Ghost and the Shuttle

On my first trip to TLS, I found a Hot Dog Guy (for me) AND a Unicorn Girl (for my daughter), but I gave the UG away to a 7-year-old who was looking for her, then didn't find another. That trip, or the next three trips! Got a UG today, very cute, and I'm done. I don't need the whole set... and I can definitely tell you which ones are unpopular at each of my two local stores. :)

Square antenna and a completely new set of minifigs. -
Yeah, I couldn't think of a better name for them... I guess 16x8 black tile is better... But with so many, this thing could make a nice parts pack for MOCing up a Death Star Hangar. :)

LEGO Star Wars 2015 Pictures and Rumors
rollermonkey replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Tyderium looks even better than I could have hoped for. I mean, room in the cockpit for two, room in the back for 3+, folding wings, retractable landing gear and a completely appropriate selection of figures. Simply cannot ask for more unless you want a complete second set of figures to do Palpatine's Arrival. (Palp, 2 Imperial Guards and 2 pilots) Final Duel looks pretty nice. Much better than the similar prequel trilogy duel sets. Imperial Assault Carrier - I must like Rebels more than you guys, but I thought this is fantastic. Launch mechanisms for the TIEs, rotation mechanism for the turrets, a huge interior that can be modified however I choose and a good selection of Imperial minifigs... And Sabine Wren with both hair and helmet options. And the ship looks very accurate to the show. UCS TIE - Again, I like this more than the consensus opinion. Advent Calendar - Continuing the trend of disagreeing, I think this looks awful. The figures are all good, but the mini-builds all look boring to me. One item of note, though. There is one mini-build that I think people were calling a weapons rack, the one with two stud-shooter guns? I think that isn't a weapons rack, but actually a square laser defense tower from the Trench run scene in ANH, and if so, THAT is cool as hell! -
Skyhopper and Snowspeeder Microfighter.

Nine UCS info plaque tiles? Wow, that's going to be big. My first impression was how good it looks and that it's enormous. I think it's @56 studs tall? The price does seem a bit high for the piece count but I can't really fault the design. Then I read through the thread... What a bunch of negative nancies. LEGO Star Wars fans really are impossible to please.

Um, the vehicle being pulled by that large critter is an old x-wing... I don't see them coming together. -
Um... I don't think about these things.

Sincere Apologies
rollermonkey replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Definitely. I have asperger's, so I'm already at a disadvantage, people think I'm a jerk all the time. In a way, forums are better than RL, because I can pepper my posts with to try and let people understand the emotions that don't show in typed words. (Or on my face, for that matter.) -
SBrick General Discussion
rollermonkey replied to Nofer89's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Say what you will, but I'm kind of glad I haven't dealt with any of these problems... But that's only because I haven't tried to actually use my SBricks yet. Hopefully, whenever I do, all this will be worked out.- 771 replies
