  1. 1) USB is serial by definition, 2) old Dell laptops generally have it, but it's probably not worth it because you will be stuck with a craptop :P
  2. And sometimes it's not even useful for the thing it's useful for
  3. Wow a lot of things have changed since I was last active on this forum; apparently now there are 1x11 pneumatic cylinders :P Anyway, these parts are really cool and i might have to get myself some....
  4. If you understand how the binary number system works, I think this can be recreated in many ways. The number for each digit toggles every 2^n times, where n is the number of digits from the left. For a binary number XYZ, Z goes "0101010101", Y goes "001100110011", and X goes "0000111100001111", etc. So I think there is a 1:2 gear reduction between each digit, and so the cam toggles the digit half as many times as you go to the left.
  5. flip the entire hub assembly, like this: I have used that setup in many mocs and it works great. It can be adapted to many builds.
  6. We use RobotC in VEX, and our team (REX 1727B) has developed a really useful program called SARSAC (idk what it stands for). it basically enables the robot to know exactly where it is at any given time, using encoder values and gyro input. even though vex obviously isnt the same as lego, vexforum.com is a great resource for robotc
  7. I hope an 8 tooth gear doesn't break in there...
  8. I have a Traxxas Slash(1:16, so it is smaller than the Summit) that uses this setup, and it is absolute Megablocks for crawling, but it's awesome for high-speed. I will say that it handles jumps very well, and actually has a VERY good amount of travel.
  9. I think it will be better if the bearings are vertical, since they are not ball bearings. Also, any force applied in the direction of the rotation axis of the turntable will be applied perpendicular to the direction of where the bearings would be strongest (horizontal).
  10. Both look really cool! BTW, I think in real Tatras, the weird things on the outside of the wheels are part of the central tire inflation system (CTI or CTIS).
  11. Have you ever used the Theo Jansen walking linkage before?
  12. Looks like this http://trucksnewz.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/dodge-pickup-trucks-for-sale-194.jpg
  13. Look at some of Efferman's chassis. They use some of these.
  14. Front looks like a combine or harvester :D that's a good thing tho
  15. make the chassis wider in the middle
  16. No, you don't need to shorten overall length. Just replace the one long axle with several short ones connected by 2L axle joiners. Also, it may be a good idea to make the rear suspension links at least as long as the front. In any solid-axled vehicle I've ever seen, the rear suspension links are always at least as long if not longer than the front suspension links, and the rear driveshaft is always longer.
  17. I don't think the amount of tanks will affect the pressure of the output much, only how long the pressure can be sustained. It honestly makes much more sense to just have all the tanks in use.
  18. This is a very odd front suspension setup... Especially that back link. That's not a new idea. They did it in 8258.Steering is by longitudinal Pitman arm/drag link
  19. As I said before, also look what I did in the comments on the page linked in the first post. :D
  20. Click on the link now, and see what I did in the comments. I hope you like it.
  21. I also see Pitman arm steering
  22. Maybe longitudinally place the motors, then gear them down after a bevel?
