  1. I LOVE the spider/drider. It is perfectly done! It totally makes the build, and the pillar and stonework are great anyways! I like the long pillair-like effect on the first tower, and I think it works very well. The bridge is excellent too, as is the pillar of support, and I too like the waterfalls and the tree. I also like the idea of the elementals going mad because Victor has died. Great entry as usual!
  2. Love the story! Very original and great backstory for Victor and the King. I really like your college, Lost Vegas and the throne room. What caught my eye was the curtains in the throne room. Also, I could tell right away that the Avalonian building was indeed Avalonian. Very creative, as usual!
  3. In terms of Drow, the significant contributor so far has been Angeli - check out his MOCs in the MIC index thread. Noone has been significantly committed to Dwarves, that I can remember, but check out the previous Mitgardian Challenge entries, and you should find some Dwarf builds. As far as canon, the first entry for each guild thread and the Challenge description thread will probably have the most information, but GoH is mostly about free reign, so you are not that constrained by existing history or having to account for other People's builds.
  4. There will be at least 6 Historicans at Brickworld Chicago this year (June 14th) - Kayne, you could make it there if you wanted. I know this is a bit of a trip for a lot of our North American members, but it will be a mini-meeting at least, and we will have international member attendance as well!
  5. Thanks for all the comments! The Valyrio build and the Kalphlin builds were the only clear ideas I had in mind at the start. The Throne room kind of made itself as I went along. I had already built the golems for the Mitgardian Army, and I realized I was going to need some sort of decorations on the balcony, and I knew the Heros had to have some secret edge going into it, and the Golem idea just popped up. I'm glad so many people liked the interior build. The Mitgardia build was a one night build (April 29th) and I was planning to use a valley wall, and was trying to come up with some good stout towers when I came across the picture of the church and decided to go with that. I had all of the Historican armies build before I ever started on my actual builds, but I didn't factor in how much time it would take to pose everyone. Ah well, separate topics they will be (and I will be using the other guild sigfigs there - Thanks to SI-Mocs for the custom parts!). I have finally got final pictures up of four of the builds, and I will work on the other two when I get a chance. I guess I would like Valyrio, Mitgardia and the Palace scored.
  6. Great story! I really like the use of the judges and the use of multiple bodies to allow for other stories is brilliant! I like the inn with the lime green, and I like the floor work in the first 2 scenes. The posing of the figs is well done. Good entry!
  7. Gedren brings up an interesting point. I am always drawn to better looking sets (MMP, Joust) but I'm probably only going to build it once and then just use the pieces for MOCs. This is different with licensed themes, where I will never disassemble The Falcon or Orthanc, but in terms of castle, I put a pretty high value on looks, when it really shouldn't matter that much to me. I do make decisions based on figs but piece count should be playing more of a role. In regards to GoT, this is not a kid's show. End of discussion. It's like discussing a a soprano's theme or Band of Brothers Legos. Lego makes toys for kids. They may cater to adults at times, but they are always targeting kids. You could argue that Architecture is more adult oriented, but it still has kid's appeal. Cusoo could be an option except for the R/MA rating, so it would never happen.
  8. Excellent entry DG! I like all of your builds, but the wedding scene is awesome! I love the church/cathedral with all of it's details. I also really like the border on your showdown scene. I loved the twist with Victor's imprisonment and the civilian hostages - very unique. Great job!
  9. Wow! So many great builds. I LOVE your house with the interior build. The roof coloring is perfect, and the woodwork around the windows is superb! The use of the mallets is genius, and I love the foot stool on the 2nd floor. Of course I love the meeting of the Avalonian Lords as well. I also really like the color combination for the Kaliphlin build. The green is not your standard Kaliphlin color, but it goes very well with the earth orange and the sand green. The mage's keep is excellent and I love the innovative use of the Mech-Zakon. Your foliage is superb, as usual, and I really enjoyed your story. Awesome Entry!
  10. Great entry! Your gate is superb - my favorite part would have to be the doors, but I love the action of the assassins climbing up and dispatching with the orcs. I really like the tavern scene as well, with your characteristic rough transitions into the build (versus base plates and full height buildings) they seem almost like a painting at times. The throne room is well done - I especially like the windows, and the final tower is excellent as well. I Love the rockwork and landscaping. Very good story and Excellent builds!
  11. Wow. Epic is indeed the correct word to use. I am blown away by your story. I LOVE all the twists, and especially the enmity between all the guilds. I feel like this never gets portrayed normally. Marecroft Manor is perhaps my favorite of your builds Z, it is simply stunning. I love the throne room build as well (not to take anything away from the rest of your builds.) I also love the options you provide at the end of the story. This is the scale I was hoping to build on for this last challenge, but fell far short of. Amazing Finale!
  12. Great entry Mikey! I too love the bookshelf, and the interior details. Your 2nd build is probably my favorite thought with the towers, and the rush of troops through the breach. I like ending with the celebration, and I am jealous of the Elephant! Nice job!
  13. PRELUDE How had it all gone so wrong? Lord Varis and Elon Chorian had planned the Elven march on Ondylion to be as realistic as possible, lulling Victor's force into complacency or overconfidence, and the feint had worked... too well. Lord Varis had heard that Victor was trying to bring the Drow over to him with promises of power, and the feint into Mitgardia had allowed the Elves to head off the Orc emmisaries, and they had set the ambush. The Orc captain had not expected to find Avalonian Elves in Nocturnus, and the confusion only gave more advantage to the Elves. The Elves made quick work of the Orcs, and the Drow threat was quelled yet again. What had not expected was the column of Victor's troops marching on Ondylion. Varis had been not more than 2 days ride away, and he knew what the thick smoke meant long before he saw the pillaged city. http://www.eurobrick...153&hl=ondylion VALYRIO The attack was as unexpected as the strike on Ondylion. The Seafolk who had been a constant plague to Mariners in the region had concerted their efforts AND had joined with the Island tribes who had never posed any major threat in the past. By using the canals, the attackers were able to strike at the heart of the City. The City was not heavily manned, and the assailants had thought it an easy prize. As luck would have it, de Gothia had been on a visit to Valyrio. de Gothia had a contingent of Avalonian soldiers that he had brought with him, and the attackers were soon vanquished. Upon questioning, it was revealed that Viktor's orcs had planned to join forces with the attackers and stage a concerted attack on the City. The lack of military training and cohesion had worked to the advantage of Valyrio, and a crisis had been averted. MITGARDIA With Ondlyion sacked, the residents of Mitgardia had retreated to the havens they had taken up residence in during the elemental attacks. The stronghold of Kadat Tuhr on the Northern edge of Mitgardia had seen relatively little action to this point, but Victor's agents had been sowing unrest in the lawless and primitive. The Cyclops tribes had been pushed north as the men of Mitgardia had expanded their villages and farmsteads, and the Cyclops thought to take advantage of the strife to take back their lands and have their revenge. This scene will be presented in it's own topic - The Northern Wastes KALIPHLIN The leaders of Kaliphlin had already faced the forces of Victor, and they were ready for battle. A large host of troops was massed at the northern edge of Kaliphlin, and the Kaliphlin Lords had been able to lead the host to a battlefield of their choosing. They had chosen an ancient desert fortress from which to assault the host. Inside the fortress, Kaliphlin Lords, led by Dextruss Flagg, planned the assault This scene will be presented in it's own topic "Desert Stand" AVALONIA and NOCTURNUS will be covered in separate topics FINALE With Victor's forces seemingly vanquished, the Guild Masters approached the palace of Cedrica. Their had been a conspicuous absence of Elementals since their intial rampage, and the palace appeared to be ungaurded... The Masters entered cautiously, accompanied by Lord Trian Buress, General Grimm and Lord Varis. As soon as the last of the Lords had entered the palace, a soft buzzing filled the air behind them, and a bright glow filled the doorway. The mysterious glow appeared to be solid, and the would not allow additional soldiers to follow. Victor's elite troops manned the floor of the throne room, while orcs trained crossbows on the Lords from above. Victor's booming laugh echoed across the throne room. "Trapped like rats! You fell right into my web. It's true that I had hoped my minions would have had more success in scattering followers to the winds, but it is of no matter. Once you are dead, strife will reign, and Historica will be mine for the taking!" The Guild Masters did not seem alarmed at the predicament, and as if on command, they moved as one to the side of the room with Lord Ssilyrrlith and Artorious Rex taking the point while Elon Chorian guarded the flank. Dextruss Flagg swung at the nearest torch, jarring it so that the top heavy sconce swiveled down. A loud grinding sound could be heard all around. On the balcony above, the seeming statues came to life, revealing themselves as golems. "YOU are the one who fell into OUR trap" shouted Dextruss, as the Lords surged forward to the attack. The Dwarves had made a gift of the golems, and Dextruss had known about the lever to activate the golems if the need to protect the King ever arose. The orcs above shrieked and stumbled over each other trying to escape, but the Golems cut off their escape and made quick work of them. Seeing that his fortunes had changed, Victor immediately retreated through the library in hopes of escaping. Lord Varis had seen Victor's flight and was waiting for him on the stairs. "Your machinations have cost the lives of many good Historicans, and it will take generations for Historica to recover from the destruction you've wrought." Varis said as he walked down the staircase. Victor pointed his staff and Varis as he began to murmur an incantation, but Varis shoved the staff aside and sunk his Dragon's fang deep into Victor's chest. "Your reign of terror is over" Varis stated flatly as Victor slid to the floor. The Lords has retaken the throne, but there are many forces still at large in the Guilds, and this but the first step on the long road to recovery. 14. Kingdoms was aimed more at AFoLs while the 2013 Castle line was aimed at kids, so it's not an apples to apples comparison. I am happy with the sets themselves, the reappearance of the Dragon, the barding and a few of the rarer minifigs. I think that the King's castle is very nice, and I like the layout of the Dragon mountain. The smaller sets are about as appealing as the usually are -primarily parts packs.
  15. Sweet! Grima, an Ent! Is that a mace I see in the 2nd picture?
  16. I must have just misinterpreted it. It can be very hard to detect sarcasm on forums. I'm very excited to see Ecc's creation, so I got defensive on his behalf.
  17. I don't find this comment particularly funny or tasteful. Ecc, I can't wait to see your creation, and I loved the winter post.
  18. How many boxes do you think are out there? Taking my state, for example, there are 138 targets TRUs and Walmarts, and assuming each gets 3 boxes (TRU will probably get more, but there are only 11 TRUs) for a total of 415 boxes, 75 Shopkos that may get 1 box each for 75 more, and 1Lego store that may get 20 boxes. That's about 500 boxes, and if you multiply that by 50 states, you get 25,000 boxes. Now, assuming half of the CMFs in the world go to the US, that means 2500 Mr Golds in about 1.5 million packs. That's 1 in 600 packs. Even if you assume 5 boxes per store and 40 boxes to the Lego store, that's that's still only 1 in 1,000 packs. If you assume half of the US sales are online (which I highly doubt) that's one in 2,000. I know I'm making a lot if assumptions here, but 1 in 3,000 seems FAR more accurate than 1 in 10,000.
  19. Please keep the discussion to LotR/Hobbit, and not branch off into general price/availability discussions. There has been a tendency to go off on a lot of tangents lately to topics that do not belong in this thread.
  20. 5410 castle minifigs?
  21. Dr Rod has used the Dragon Soldiers since before they were determined as Avalonia's standard troop.
  22. Forestmen have already been revamped once, and the Black Falcon's Fortress set was rereleased back in the 00's (I think it was the 00's...). I'm all for new factions over remade old ones, even though I consider both of these factions bad remakes.
  23. I've been seeing 9 like crazy. 8 was the hard one for me. My Lego store ran out of 8 well before 7, and I never got enough conquistadors:( I am pretty pumped about s10 though. Best...series...ever.
  24. That's too bad, I was really looking forward to an entry from you! Will it be a one MOC free build, or 3 MOC?
  25. The tomohawk blade can be really hard to feel. If there was a ridge on the bar, it was probably just the tomohawk.
