  1. at least these two (8448 and 8480) are the most beautiful studded technic sets (but they are not 100% studded to be correct) - even if IMHO the supercar 8880 is also a real beauty - or should i say powerful - design - but i admit, that this is probably a minority opinion ;-)
  2. Here me recommendation of sets very suitable for building the concept car of NK: The 8653 is quite essential and the best start point cause of its flex-axles and - even more - the metallic wheel covers... The 8070 is also a very helpful set for this car The nitro 8146 is also quite essential for the rims and for the huge wheels (but contains only 2 of them - but i could buy two more at bricklink for 1,9€ each) The 8386 is helpful for some red parts and some stuff the 8366 contains some special design parts the 8455 and 8069 contain a lot of all these needed stuff needed for each technic studdless model With these sets there are only about 100 remaining parts, all of them very cheap at brickling (but probably most of them you will have in your spare part repository) So for me this is fine because there is no need to sacrifice an important set (the 8455 and 8366 i own twice and the 8653 is very beautiful but overall not a really impressive set - the rest i have dismantled just for MOCs, not really sets needed for shelf-display ;-) Just my 2cts for building the concept car...
  3. here you can see quite detailed and clearly which parts have to be replaced... i think it should not be too hard to build the gullwing and the convertible from these pictures...: http://www.technicbricks.com/2012/09/tbs-techreview-18-concept-car-by.html
  4. BTW: not really a challenging build but quite straight forward. but this is the only con (apart from the very badly designed winch but this can easily being fixed) of this beautiful Heli: - very easy and elegantly motrized - cool features (especially this genius trick to prevent the rotor destroying gears by preventing an abrupt stop (very important when motorized) - very much room for cool MODs - very beautiful design - many good parts for building other MOCs - very fair price So i understand your praising: overall definitely a highlight of the technic scheme... oops, how can i forgot this?? yes, absolutely!
  5. I'm sure you have noticed that the 8459 is only studded model in this beauty collection - i admit, i'm a fan of old studded designs (and i'm also a fan of new studdless designs), but concerning look mostly studdless models win... and: the 8265 is a beauty too, no question...
  6. ah, yes, i forgot the 8043 - probably beacuse it waits in its box to be freeded and build by me... ;-) but i wait for a 8878 recharg battary box so i can build Juergens ultimate 8043... but anyway: you are right, the 8043 excavator belongs of course to the most beautiful models... For my design taste the "old" 8459 Front loader looks better than the 8265 but of course taste is very subjective thing ;-)
  7. Hi all, after recapitulating all my technic sets (which are quite all over a certain part count) i came to this regarding the question which models are the most beautiful ones (not the most or best features but the most beautiful)... I took a picture of them: Bike 8420, ferrari Enzo 8653, Crane Truck 8258, Heli 9396, backhoe 8455 and front loader 8459... all of them have a really maximum realistic and beautiful look... what do you think? do have others in mind? maybe i would add the Ferrari 8145 and the BMW racer 8461 but that's it (but the first one i do not own and the latter one is stored in its box and waits for later rebuild)... BR
  8. you are right - i know this set but first this it almost 25 years old and second it is quite mediocre - i'm sure TLG is able to do such a transformer much much better - especially with all these modern parts available nowadays..
  9. Not really a technic model / MOC but nevertheless and overall the best "C-Model" i have ever seen - i post it here because Nathanael Kuipers is well known here as a very good technic MOCer and C-Model-designer - just another side of him which shows his full genius - my full admiration for this: http://rebrickable.c...099-transformer (contains detailed photo BI) A real transformer between a jet and a roboter... you must have build this to see how clever and brilliant this has been designed...  In addition this would be also an idea for a great technic set: a transformer which performs its transformation powered by PF... this would be something completely new and would disrupt this endless and by now boring series of always the same construction vehicles...
  10. None because each model can be bought second hand in very good condition (incl. box and instructions) for a fair price it you are are patient and not in a hurry... with this approach i got quite all interesting sets...
  11. i have also bought a second hand 8485 as complete and checked against peeron - and mine is complete - so i would say you should complain... generally spoken: in my experience peeron part lists are quite reliable...
  12. thank you a lot, Blakbird, as for all you incredible renderings and work so other people like me, who are not so firm with this rendering-, CAD- and instruction-making-stuff, can build these great MOCs...
  13. you are right - she used a custom made metal "LA" and AFAIK one long metal axle for driving the telescoping...
  14. ah, my fault.... but not placing a part wrong (that one you mentioned is played correctly as all other too) but not nderstanding the folding mechanism: i thought the second LA can retract he upper arm segment so it stays parallel to the middle arm, but this does not work, because the second LA is already fully retracted when the upper arm has still an angle of about 20 - 30 degree. But what works is (suppose both arms segments are somehow extracted for work): 1. extracting the middle arm almost fully (ie. the first LA) 2. then retracting the upper arm segment (ie. the second LA) completely as far as possible (ie. the second LA is fully retracted) 3. retracting the middle arm competely (ie. the first LA): and this causes the upper arm to fold in its parallel end-position "guided" by the lower arm (the not moveable) - is this understandable, i can not better descibe it... 3 works because the middle are segment can be folded till parallel by hand even if the second LA is already fully retracted... conclusion: with this approach it works for me: the question is now: is this also the approach Uwe Wabra (the designer of the 8258) had in mind? ;-)
  15. Good morning (at least in Europe ;-), i have a problem with the 8258: This picture (not mine) shows the crane completey folded, ie. the third arm section (the extractable one) is parallel to the middle arm section when the third arm and the second LA is completely retracted... The situation with my current build is different: if the second LA is completely extracted then the middle and the third arm sections make a almost straight line, and when completey retracted it is NOT parallel (as in the picture shown) but stays in an angle of about 30 degree or so... I have checked the instructions step by step but have not found any mistake... so: anybody out there with an idea what can be wrong? Thanks a lot in advance!
  16. incredible - very well done  Especially the pneumatic functions and their remote controlling are outstanding and yes, the wheels are too small but this is criticism at very very high level
  17. my first association was without any hesitation a Scania and IMHO it not only looks a tiny bit.. anyway, this is not the most important topic concerning this model ;-)
  18. In light of my recent rebuild of the 8258 with applying all MODs of Designer Han I would like to write a small Homage for this model. Thank you to TLG bringing the swedish truck brand Scania to our mind with such a fantastic model. For me this is the best model (together with the 8455) of the studless area (and competes with the best models of the studded area for ranking Nr. 1, e.g. with 8880 and 8868 and 8480) until now and this judgement includes the Unimog 8110 (official version), the excavator 8043 and the mobile crane 8421 (of course the tow truck 8285 as well but this one isn’t really a competitor for the 8258, by far not). Why do I think this? Best and most realistic look of all technic sets – you see at a glance that this is a Scania crane truck – it looks (and works, apart from not using pneumatics) exactly as the real thing Very interesting and clever build with almost no repetition which is remarkable for a set with such a high part count Outstanding function-switching gearbox – only the 8043 gearbox can compete here Most complex gear drivetrains (especially with the twin-wheel MOD of Designer Han) i know – maybe the old 8880 can compete here and maybe the 8043 – this pure building fun equalizes also the usage of LAs (which would be a con for me) Perfect and senseful usage of PF, very well integrated Number of functions all performing smoothly and save (at least after applying the MODs of Designer Han) My only cons are: The crane can’t lift anything (but not really important for me cause of my age ;-) ) Manually operation of the stands of the outtriggers Conclusion: The overall package of the 8258 is awesome and outstanding – and I strongly recommend to apply ALL MODs of designer Han (cudos for you, Han), incl. the twin wheel MOD which improves the look a lot (BTW: the “marriage” of the twin-wheel back-part with the front chassis is quite fideling and a real challenge) I’m quite sure this model will rank among my top 5 technic sets till kingdom come: 8880, 8868, 8110 (only when slightly modified), 8455 – no internal ranking between these 5 sets. So again: Thank you TLG for offering and developing this set, and thank you also to Designer Han for making it perfect.
  19. Give it up for legoamiogos! very well done, this very cool model is for me now the second best mobile crane directly placed after Jennifer Clarks mobile crane (but this one is hard to beat IMO)... What i like most is the completely different look compared with all these 8421-look cranes and and a unique feature with the cabin movement...very well done motorization... But i would second Alasdair's suggestion about the battery box 8878.. it could really allow to place the IR receivers somehow inside because currently they almost destroy the look of this beautiful model....
  20. the first bullet works fine for me, also the latter one... but you are right with the second one: the wire solution of the original 8421 works better but can obviously not be applied... therefore... ... i have also rebuild to the original 8421 keeping the double pneumatic cause of its much better performance and also look...like Juergen has described above...
  21. my first thought was: just ignore him... probably still the best way... But then i tought, why not - well, here we go, escpecially for you, my friend: IMHO this MOC is better than the 42009: - pneumatic instead of LAs (please not the 124. discussion about PN vs LA) because I find this more realistic and with this 4 cylinder approach it works very well - synchronized boom extraction and winch - 12 wheel instead of 10 and therefore a real huge crane - way too slow winch speed of the 42009 (more generally spoken: all operations of the 42009 are boring slow) - double differencials instead of just one - better look (yes, probably this is just my opinion because i do not like this modern panel look - the older models have more charme and look more like lego) - better outriggers (yes, you have read right, IMHO the 8421 are better even if not motorized because the ones of 42009 are way to slow in its performance - cause of the very long drive train from the L-motor to the outtriggers this is probably a must but nevertheless it this performance is boring) all this is just my humble opinion - you must not share it, but i'm allowed to post it. So, why should i not name this thread how i have named it? Please tell me what is dumb...
  22. hmm, maybe you are right.....changed, s.a.
  23. Hmm, this thread forgot another absolute astonishing marvel of a tow truck: Andrea Grazi's Tow Truck: http://www.eurobrick...0 Brickshelf: http://www.brickshel...ery.cgi?f=74562 So we have 4 "Champions league" Tow Trucks....
  24. i would never arrogate a judgement for your model without knowing them but ineed, yes, just from your description i would suspect that your model will not work reliable and will stress a lot of lego parts too much...just the resulting weight is probably way too much for some axles and other parts... but this is of course just an assumption and also just my personal opinion... Anyway, that's not the topic here and of course everyone can build what he want to build and what makes fun to build...
  25. I do not know what is wrong with yours, but i can not confirm any of your drawbacks - well, the buggy motor is louder than a current PF motor, indeed, but this is no problem for me... probably but i doubt if this is a good idea, because IMO cranes (or more generally: models) of such a huge size reaches the limits what can be build with lego technic...at least, what can be reliable and senseful build with lego technic
