  1. was not necessary too: i own a lot of "yellow" sets (a.o. 2x 8421, 8275, 8053, 8069, 8043, 2x 8455, 8432, 8459, 8862, 856) and also many others so i was quite sure haveing almost all needed parts, so i just get started with the build... AFAIK this 8421 XL is not listed on rebrickable... it drives exactly the same functions as with the original 8421: boom extension (synchronized with the winch) and winch - switchable by a "gearbox"
  2. BTW: The site of Han contains some of the most astonishing and elaborated MOCs i know, e.g. the - Prinoth Leitwolf with Power Functions - Articulated Hauler And the offered MODs are all of them very recommendable, escpecially these ones for the Crane truck 8258...
  3. No, this was not necessary: i Build it from my already owned parts ;-)
  4. Just build it: http://www.designer-han.nl/lego/8421xl.htm Apart from the better outriggers of the 42009 this monster is the real big crane - at least IMHO ;-) Mostly cause of the pneumatic (instead of the LAs), the smoother boom extension and the synchronized winch... Well, it's more or less the 8421 but there are people out there who like it really big ... ;-) BTW: just adding the double pneumatic stuff to the standard 8421 increases usability a lot because the boom can stay at top upper position very long (overnight in my case)...
  5. i would second this.... either the heli as a very good model for a quite small price or the 8110 Unimog to get one of the most realistic technic models ever (has some slight pitfalls but most of the users doesn't bother...) For me both the 42008 and the 42009 are somehow disappointing...
  6. One of the best MOCs ever Seen .. This MOC earns the high score in all criterias, ie. Realism, part count (i assume), functions, design, look... If instructions would be made i'm quite sure i would spend all the money needed for the parts to build it... Regardsless how much money...
  7. Thank you, rotating One cable 90 degree is already enough, now it works perfectly.... Very cool model though the build itself is very simple....
  8. Hi, just finished the build of the racer 8366 und now i'm wondering why the two race motors are rotating in different directions, e.g. if i push forward on the remote controller then one motor rotates forward whereas the other one rotates backward --> which is quite bad ;-) Can anybody tell me what i have done wrong - how and where to fix the mistake? Thanks a lot in advance! BR
  9. just my 2 ct: 8265 is beaten by far by the older pneumatic 8439 Front loader: better design, more realism cause of pneumatic, more ingenious solutions, much better playability (8265 without PF has more or less no playability because you have to screw and screw and screw ... an ... screw to lift up the bucket - and 8265 with standard PF looks quite ugly) - the only advantage of the 8265 is: it's bigger but this is not really an advantage.... I recommend every fan of the 8265 to catch the 8439 .................................. ;-)
  10. well, here my 2 ct Gold medal (In no particular order): 8880, 8868, 8258, 8455, 8459 (all of them are perfect in all criterias without any drawback) Silver medal (dito): 8421, 8110, 8479, 8485, 8480 (complexity, innovation, very good B-Model) Bronze medal (dito): 8448, 8466 (wheels, optics and first of all the door mechanism!), 8043 (complexity, could also be a silver medal), 8858 (best suspension ever), 851 (so cute, so cool done), 856 (so cute, so cool done), 8846 (so small, but so well done), 8431 (one of the best cranes) For this ranking the new 42008 and 42009 are already taken into accout! But this does not mean, that other sets are all bad, in contrary, i know many other good sets - but these above are the best ones... IMHO
  11. i can imagine this because kids also like e.g. the plastic orange garbage trucks of the German toy manufacturer 'Bruder' - if we are honest, the real playability of many lego technic sets is poor in that sense of the purpose of a model - e.g. most cranes like the 8258 or 8110 or some others can not really lift much weight or the excavator 8043 can not really dig into something... so playability for these highend models means always something in the sense, the kids can marvel at the mechanism they have built - most kids 11 years and older don't play "digging" or lifting or gradding or garbage-collecting - but they want to build these tricky mechanisms and they want to try out them after buildung and looking at the spining gears, extracting pneumatic or similar stuff... and therefore IMHO also a well designed garbage truck or road gradder could be a great success for the main target group...
  12. such a firetruck with ladder needs more or less exactly the same mechanics as a mobile crane - packaged other look - i want something new! ;-)
  13. @DLuders: absolutely great this video - this comes quite near to that what i have in my mind...
  14. all are good ideas, but: - what is the principle difference between a concrete pump truck and a crane truck like 8258 - concerning needed machanics!? real live pumping is not possible with lego... - i'm searching for a model which allows to be featured with as many as possible mechanically (or with pneumatic) driven stuff... concerning this i come back to my trash truck as the most featurefull model... but i admit: the concrete mixer has also a lot of potential...very good idea
  15. Hi all, the 2013 models are somehow disappointing to me: 42000: Just the next formula 1 racer 42008: just the next tow truck 42009: just the next mobile crane - bigger but nothing new compared to the 8421 apart from the outriggers - other features are implemented worse compared to the 8421... So i racked my brains what could be a top model which does not simply reiterate models already released... Then a german dump truck came in my mind: A picture says more than 1000 words: I think such a backloader dump truck could have some nice - and party new(!) - features: a) backloading mechanism for two trash cans - probably best driven by pneumatic b) fully open-able back door for unloading the complete trash-load - maybe best driven by LAs c) dumpable trash-container - driven by LAs d) chain driven trash pressure mechanism inside the trash-loader e) all stuff like V6 engine, differencials, steering, tiltable cab, opening doors Please excuse by partly bad english - it's not so easy to know all these special terms... but i hope you understand what i mean... b, c,d could all be driven by PF switched by a "gearbox" like with 42009 What do you think?
  16. this one i have switched on... one question: what is the purpose of the "padels" on the hand-unit? I mean not the steering or propulsion knob but these two padels?
  17. huuh? as far as i can see the RC-unit itself has no power switch? Only at the bottom of the receiver unit i found a power switch? so: does the RC-unit have a switch too? where? yes neither the steering nor the propulsion
  18. i'm quite sure - i have screwed it in until there is no further spin possible... BTW: Is there a way to check if the receiver module itself is working, ie. activating it without the RC-unit?
  19. Hi all, i have a somehow special question but maybe there is a expert for such things out there... I want to reactivate my 8366 RC racer. But it does simply nothing when pushing the knobs on the remote control... What i have check so far: - The batteries have power (checked with another batterybox) - both motors and cables are working perfectly - checked by powering them from another lego batterybox - both channel switches are set to the same channel But now i'm at the end of my wits - how to track down other possible errors, e.g. how to check if the remote control unit itself is working - without owning another counterpart? Any ideas? Thanks a lot in advance!
  20. 42008 is a set i will definitely miss because: - quite ugly - weird mixture of features and technological principles... - old wine in new wineskins ;-)
  21. so is this technic (Lego 7905 of the city theme)? It is a city model but full of technic parts and has also technic functions... For me that set which is the hardest to decide if technic or not...
  22. for 8851: or you built it with the more modern (and IMHO much better) currently used pneumatic-system using this great instructions: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=79484 Works perfectly and results in a very good pneumatic excavator.
  23. absolutely incredible
  24. astonishing!   instructions would be very appreciated - one of the best small MOCs i can remember..
