  1. The coach itself looks great and I love the ingenious way you have used some of the pieces to create the details. My only criticism is that the horses are too small for the scale of the coach. You either need to make the coach smaller (hard) or otherwise maybe look at putting together some brick built horses which are a bit bigger than minifig horse s. Cheers Rog
  2. When compared directly to the standard shields they are a bit more yellow on the lighter segments but nothing I would call an issue. If their not side by side they look the same. Certainly not as marked a difference in the photos in the review. Cheers Rog
  3. I bought both sets and have combined them into a single large castle. I like both but the standard LEGO castles are always a bit 2D, too square and too symmetrical compared to real castles. Helms Deep is better in this respect but is quite small. The combo has allowed for a castle about 1.5 times the footprint of the kings castle with less symmetry, more ramparts and a keep. Basically, the kings castle and the wall segments from LOTR sets form the outer walls with the door and throne room from Helms Deep making up the keep. This in turn is built onto the raised plate from the 1980s Mountain Castle. The gatehouse is direct from the kings castle and the tower from Helms Deep is at one of the back corners. I don't mind the large panels to quickly build the outer walls. There are plenty of pieces and techniques to disguise these. The flags and heraldry of the castle as mostly as they came out of the box as I don't mind them. I am in the process of changing the blue rampart toppers from blue to grey but otherwise the colour scheme is predominantly from the kings castle. This all might sound a bit messy but that was kind of the idea to try and give the castle a more organic look. I have kept all the minifigs from both sets and also got the Kingdoms chess set yesterday to bump the minifig numbers up. I don't mind the mix of heraldry as I look at this as different noblemen at the castle having their own troops and/or different specialisms of troop. The LoTR minifigs have either become knights, officers or otherwise elite specialists in the army. They all look pretty good together IMO. Cheers Rog
  4. I got this set yesterday and I'm very happy with it. Apart from maybe half a dozen 1980s castle sets I am new to castle and wanted an easy way to up my historic army count. I was able to use VIP points towards the set so in the end it only cost me £4.99 in actual cash which is a bargain for 28 minifigs. I have recently got the Kings Castle and Helms Deep and needed more soldiers to staff the place. I particularly like the red (white) king and queen. I have no queen until now so she's great for me and the kings is also brilliant. His torso looks great and the gold helmet and sword are my fave pieces. I technically have a gold sword and helmet already from the blue king in the kings castle but his helmet isn't shiny like this one and his sword was so orange that I have never used it and my blue king carries a standard long sword. Needless to say the red king is now the king of my castle with the blue king his brother (all my minifigs are forming one big army to take on the orcs, zombies and other non-human minifigs). Interested by the comments on printing quality and having looked back at mine don't seem to have any issues compared to your photos. Cheers Rog
  5. Built by Ikarus for many years this bus was very common across eastern Europe. Great model with amazing features and instantly recognisable! Good find Cheers Rog
  6. Me too. I got another (stupid) clockwork robot and had to do something with them! Cheers Rog

  9. I did the same. Tidies it up quite nicely. Cheers Rog
  10. That small demographic would include me so I'm happy... Cheers Rg
  11. Yes, that is. Kenworth COE but they did build more than one design and pretty much all 1970s era COE designs were pretty poor looking and all featured the same combination of large grille and tiny lights low down near the bumper. Scammell and some other European designs were also similar at this time but looking at any of them you can see where TLG got their inspiration. They could have just done another modern Scania lookalike but then no doubt people would complain they weren't being original.... Cheers Rog
  12. Thanks for the review. Nicely done with very tidy photography. I agree that this truck has slightly challenging looks. I think that this is because is it based on an older US cab over design which is common as tow trucks whereas other recent Technic trucks have been based on modern Euro designs. That would also explain why the scale seems off as US trucks have very different proportions to Euro trucks. If you compare it to a 70s/80s cab over Kenworth you can see what TLG were trying to do. I'm not a fan of this era of US truck but if you compare in this way you can see that the design is OK and it's what it's been based on that's the problem! Cheers Rog
  13. Looks nice however I think that the bumpers need to be more square rather than angled to give a 1980s feel to it. The angled bumpers make it look older... Cheers Rog
  14. Brilliant! So simple yet so effective. Good job Cheers Rog
  15. I'm guessing that as you used the blueprints that is accurate but why does the top edge of you hull dip down forward and aft of the superstructure when it does appear to in the real-life photos? The deck rails drop there but do not cut into the black main hull whereas yours does... Cheers Rog
  16. I think the guns would be OK if the hull was wider... Cheers Rog
  17. Looks good and I like the superstructure and the guns in particular. I know you say you were trying to keep within the c.14 stud width limit but I don't think that this does the design any favours as battleships are very broad across the middle. Also, the bow is very square and could do with more of a point to it. I think if you want to do a battleship you need to make it wider or - if you want to stick with 14 studs - you should scaled down the guns and make it a frigate instead which would suit the longer thinner profile better. Cheers Rog
  18. It looks nice and has a definitely commuter train feel to it. Although the colours are right I'm not sure that the layout of the colours matches any South West Trains livery that I've seen and you have missed the most important part of any model of a UK train - The yellow front and rear which is a requirement of UK trains. Cheers Rog
  19. Looks nice. Maybe the sides are a little flat and it could do with a bit more greebling as navy ships have plenty of masts and aerials whereas yours is a little plain. This is the patrol boat I built earlier this year which shows what I mean... http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=77555&hl=%2Bpatrol+%2Bboat Cheers Rog
  20. Huh? Is this some more heavy handed EB moderating? Pretty much the first line of the Bumping policy says "posting in an old LEGO topic is always better than posting in an old community topic" which is what has been done. Further on in the bumping policy it says not to bump your own posts. This new post is not by the OP. I can't see what he has done wrong? It's an oldish topic but with a topical and relevant update... Cheers Rog
  21. Thanks for the feedback guys. The bad news is that the fire station is no longer a fire station. It's in the process of being converted into a heliport. No photos yet as it's early days but the fire station is no more... Cheers Rog

    Airports?

Would my heliport qualify? Cheers Rog

    Airports?

Airports are tricky because of the amount of space they require - Especially with the current size/scale of LEGO aircraft. I am attempting to circumnavigate this to some degree by converting my fire headquarters into a heliport with a passenger terminal. It's coming on well but is still has a really big footprint even with (at the moment) just two helipads. I would love to do a proper airport but so much of it would be dead space compared to the amount of room it would actually take up. Cheers Rog
  24. That's just what I was going to say! Really nice little MOCs and I really like the scooter. Has a proper Vespa-type feel to it. I don't think I've ever seen so many illegal parts combinations in any two models before though ! Especially this size! Cheers Rog
  25. I was originally disappointed when I heard the news that TLG had redesigned significantly from the original design and as I read the review I was worried - until I saw them side by side. The TLG version is far better and better proportioned. It's also closer to the real shape of a Delorean. £35 is quite expensive for a car and two minifigs but not expensive enough to put me off! When I get mine I will be building all three versions and also a standard non-BTTF version of the Delorean too. I will then just have to make a minifig Mike Brewer and Edd China to work on it.... Cheers Rog
