8258 Truck cab
rriggs replied to technicfan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
8258 is defo a Scania already so little MOD'ing needed. Decals as already said and then just any custom options you fancy... Cheers Rog -
I keep 8258 Crane Truck built and on a shelf. It took me a couple of goes to get the gearbox right and I can't face taking it apart. Besides, it looks great on the shelf. Other sets and MOCs are generally kept built for a few months at a time. I keep the dust down by keeping the door to my LEGO room closed when I'm not in there. I only need dust the long-term assembled once or twice a year and I use a microfibre car dashboard duster (looks a bit like a small feather duster) plus an air duster to do the job. Cheers Rog

You're welcome obviously..... Cheers Rog

Won't be going to a LEGO store until this weekend but ToysRUs had the first delivery of new sets last weekend and advised me to keep checking back as they expect more sets each week from now. I'll let you know about a LEGO store this weekend... Cheers Rog

I have tried a training tower a couple of times but they always end up looking too plain or just not right. I'm planning on extending the compound out back as there are parking issues currently and might have another bash at a tower when I do this... I think most doctors here have similar cars too but those that work with the emergency services have access to emergency response doctor's cars or have clip on green lights they use on their own cars. The cheque is in the post for the HVAC design (of course ;-) ) Cheers Rog

I see them as a combined service in LEGO City. My inspiration has come in part from the TV show Chicago Fire which is based in combined fire and ambulance station. Cheers Rog

I have now successfully plundered your air con design for my fire station. Here's the units in situ: So a great big thanks to you for helping with the finishing touches to my roof spaces!! Cheers Rog
-
OK, time for some updates: Firstly, in answer to UnknownClone's question, there is a staircase from the higher roof to the lower roof. I have also added a bit more detail to the lower roof so it's less plain. Following Amte's suggestion, the doctor now has a car. In the UK doctor's cars have green lights: This is a couple of shots of the pole down into the garages. It is accessible from both the firefighters' and paramedics' rec rooms and land neatly between the fire and ambulance bays. Last shot for today is a teaser of the interior of the medical centre. It's not finished so don't want to show it properly yet... Cheers Rog

There is a pole. It's in between the firefighters' rec room and paramedics' rec room so that either can use it. Once I have done the interior in the new section I will take internal photos and you'll see the pole in all its glory. There is currently two fire helicopters. One white (MOD'd from the forest police chopper) and a red one from the current City fire station. Cheers Rog

Is the iQ any good? See a lot of them about but wonder if they're too small to live with? Cheers Rog
-
Good point! I'll sort one out... Cheers Rog

Yes I did! Well spotted! Thanks for the feedback guys. The plan for the medical centre is a rec room, a doctor's office and a treatment room. Watch this space! Cheers Rog

I got 60023 this morning in TRU. They had no new sets on display but the nice lady at the info desk went and had a look in the stores and found a fresh new delivery of 60023's. Really nice little set and just perfect for my ever growing fire/ambulance station! Cheers Rog

Well, I finally decided to go ahead with the ambulance station/medical centre extension. Only the exterior done so far with the interior and the roof details to follow but this is the progress so far: Overall view of the front elevation. It's now another full road plate wider to allow for the additional two bays for the emergency ambulances: Closer view of the new bays with the ambulances in situ. In this photo you can see the currently empty medical centre. I need to add some interior walls and furnishings. The firemans' pole has moved from the fire section into the medical centre because it then lands downstairs in clear space where it used to land in one of the garages: Slightly more elevated view showing the currently quite plain roof of the medical centre. Eventually there will be some a/c units, etc and a staircase down from the upper helipad to access the lower helipad: The yard at the back which is now pretty full up with emergency vehicles. The full complement is: 3 x pump ladders (Bays 1-3) 1 x large turntable ladder 1 x small turntable ladder 1 x off road/airport tender (Bay 4) 3 x supply/command unit 1 x tow truck 1 x chief's car 1 x quad bike 1 x motorcycle 2 x emergency ambulances (Bays 5-6) 1 x patient transfer ambulance More photos when the interior is done... Cheers Rog

Very nice! I did look at those and nearly bought one before I sat the new A-Class... Cheers Rog

Have to agree! Owned 40-odd cars over the years of pretty much every nationality and the Germans are a cut above the rest. Apart from my old XJ Jag but that's another story... Cheers Rog

I think that the development of 3D printing is very interesting but, even if the technology and the quality is good enough, I would never use one to manufacture my own LEGO pieces. This is for two main reasons: 1. I only use genuine and un-modified LEGO parts so would not use my own manufactured parts the same as I won't use Megabloks, Brickarms, etc. I am a LEGO collector and modeller and not a building block collector and modeller. 2. Part of the challenge of modelling with LEGO is working with the parts that are available and getting them to work how you want them to. Being able to create parts at a whim or when you are stuck would almost be cheating. Cheers Rog

Looks really good. How close do you think you were to going right through the plastic? Cheers Rog

New car time! Got a great deal on an ex-demo model and it's a holiday weekend in the UK so lots of time to play with it! Cheers Rog

Nice one! Cheers Rog

Great idea! Missed this topic until now. London, England for me please! Originally from Dublin though but I think an Irish flag in London would be getting a bit too confusing... Cheers Rog

I think that the crane is just a reboot af the crane in 7633 and that it doesn't fit in with the town square. I like the rest of the town square so can live with having the crane but I do think it's an odd choice. For the cost of the parts in the crane we could have had so much better! Cheers Rog

Wow! Love it!! When I saw the title I was expecting the usual half a dozen modulars and a yellow bus but then saw this beauty disappearing into the distance towards the horizon. All classic town too which is just amazing! The combination of classic town plus the style of some of your MOCs gives it a very East German feel. Great job and thanks for sharing! Cheers Rog

Loving the L&S in the fire engine - I shall be nicking that idea for a couple of my fire engines very shortly.... While the general store itself has a lovely interior I can't help thinking that they should really have been evacuated until the fire brigade had cleaned up and gone! Cheers Rog

I missed out on coast guard completely last time round so really good news for me! Cheers Rog
