Nice job ...I really like the almost 'over the top' architectural detailing of the exterior. It has hints of an old European Town House. The use of yellow and black on the walls really cements it into the Classic era, but with a modular twist. I agree your interior could use some refinement, however just dismissing it as cramped etc is not really constructive for the designer! I for one, love the overall feedback that this forum brings for builders, but if you have a criticism to bring to the table, at least back it with helpful suggestions. These projects are WIP and can only progress if we as a forum offer up help and suggestions....phew...rant over....sorry about that EB On the interiors I think it hinges on what you want to achieve... If its a small town shop selling Lego on the side...then maybe the interior needs that 'old time' shop aesthetic & detail, with a Lego section allocated to one side or a corner. At the moment your shop looks like its under attack from legoness . Take some inspiration form the Creator sets that I noticed you have in the background. Also...I always work by the mantra bestowed on me by my last Architectural Design Tutor.... "Always design with KISS [Keep It Simple Stupid]. The stupid was for me ...he was strange man. I digress..... However, if its a Lego brand store, then I would stick with the colours and details but maybe focus it more on what you would expect if TLG came to your town and retrofitted an old shop with their brand. I agree that some Lego printed tiles and perhaps a PAB wall, which is relatively easy to do...even if its a wee one, would really lift your interiors. There was a modular Lego shop on this forum not so long ago, perhaps have a wee peak and see how that designer designed the inside of the shop, and get some inspiration Great work and cant wait to see how it progresses!

Superb, you've captured the detail and look brilliantly. Tbh I think the hard top version almost spoils what you have achieved with the original design. Anyway, a windscreen on a X-Bow....how else would you melt your face off

Once again you have produced a brilliant scene and captured the feeling of the era, with some fantastic wee details and ingenious techniques. I love the volvo car and the 'Concrete Jungle' architecture of the piece. Love your work!

Brilliant wee scene! I love all the SNOT work to achieve the high level of detail from the original!

I see you have yet to actually comment on the actual post...which is more what LegoSjaak is looking for. Maybe raise the issue of how comments can be interpreted separately or even more prudent...privately with those involved. Lets focus on what the post was intended for...feedback to the original post! So... I love the Modular layout and the skill you have shown in combining more than one of the original sets in XL'ing the design and footprint of each building. Your current work on the 'Detective Office' is excellent and gives inspiration to those who may want to follow suit! My only suggestion, which I think I have posted before on another City Layout, is to focus on the landscaping and tying together your brilliant building work with a stronger external aesthetic. If you look to brick build the trees, hard & soft landscaping, roads etc...your layout will really tie together and support the detail already shown in the modulars. My example would be to look at the incorporation of the brick built Xmas tree in your winter layout and how that has more of a presence than the standard 'Lego Tree' piece. Have a gander at the amazing work over in 'Historic Themes' as they have fantastic MOC builds that depict an amazing array of trees and foliage that could be brought into your layouts. But as I said before, this looks already like an amazing project that is only going to get better and better as it evolves in the future. Can't wait to see what you do next!

Brilliant wee scene and the attention to detail...for as 'simple' as you say is great! Would love a sinister edge to sneak into it...maybe its not as calm and safe as it seems
-
wow this is brilliant...I also loved the youtube video you guys put together on the rooftop chase sequence too. Brilliant!
-
I totally agree too...the use of parts is clever but maybe a scene of an actual Paralympic event would have been more suitable.

I would be up for this...as apart from the annual Winter Contest...it would be great for the Town folk to show off our modular talents. Hopefully be picked up as a proper EB contest as this forum has some of the best modular designer/ builders out there. If actual lego could not be offered as a prize...even a wee 'MOC/ Modular' tag for your profile would be cool!

Fantastic build with some great wee moments throughout...Batman/ the interior on the ground floor/ the locked up 'Friends' minidoll My only suggestion in this is only because I have an aversion to the current style of Lego vehicles is to detail a more suitable period/ or styled police vehicle. Just my own issues with the big thick tyres/ bubble style that TLG are adopting these days . I love the building and your work

I like this build with the two levels as opposed to the more traditional 3+ modulars. Like the guitar shop posted recently,,,I like this scale as it adds a further dimension to City/ Town builds. Great work!
-
Nice work...I like to see the smaller scaled modulars as they fit in with something more akin to the recent Creative range of buildings. Great work...would love to see it brick built
-
Great work cimddwc... I love the use of the Friends range as a type of product you can buy in your city. Great details to your building and style really stands it apart in the area you have placed it. Love it!

superb...i love the stripped back nature of this build and the concept of construction. With permission, I may use some of these wee details in an constructions site MOC I have planned for my modular street.

Winter Village - My 2014 scene, now on 8 boards..
gazumpty replied to quentinfarquar's topic in LEGO Town
This looks amazing...so detailed and I love the way you have incorporated the official sets to and 'Winterfied' them I think it will look even better when you build in the trees...I personally think brick built landscaping and vegetation looks so much better than the standard parts that TLG provide. I know its more costly solution and definitely time consuming (the tree from my Winter Contest Entry from last year took an age to get right) but its worth it. Maybe pop over to the Historica Forums, where you will see some amazing landscaping ideas!- 11 replies

Love the use of the classic/ old bricks...all of us have a soft spot for anything lego from the 90s or earlier

This is great wee modular and well thought out and designed. I agree with pirzyk above that some signage at the window or some sort of pawn shop symbol built off the wall would really complete the external detailing. Something like this could be fashioned in bricks....

what a great wee scene...I love it
