First of all – hats off that you could build this only from imagination without physical parts at hand ! I apologize for having made the misleading statement about too slow speed! It was meant rather regarding the relatively slow speed of any Lego application, no matter what gear reduction, even with 2 x RC motors, to implement a kind of useful and vivid torque vectoring of a car / supercar. By the way, I find Philo´s homepage very useful when it comes to motors comparison, e.g. speed/current vs. torque diagrams: http://www.philohome.com/motors/motorcomp.htm I have rebuilt your genius mechanism just to understand the principle and yes - this is exactly what I was looking for when I thought about torque vectoring – means that the inner wheels are spinning at lower speed than on the outside while being steered. Thanks again for sharing!

Very smart, thanks for sharing! I love especially the use of differentials in such sophisticated mechanisms ! Recently I was wondering how an immitation of torque vectoring of real cars could be done and this application seems to be suitable for that, although it´s kinda useless due to the "low" possible speed. A video showing it in action would be nice, but I can rebuild it myself later of course ...

Nice MOD, thanks for sharing! Funny outdoor video with flying headlights ! Although I miss the part in the video when gears are being shifted while driving , the achieved performace / max speed is good !

So do you seriously think that adding front suspension and changing wheels and some colors makes this your creation which makes it interesting to others by offering a 5 (or 55 ?) USD "magazine"? My honest and humble opinion: listen carefully what others are trying to say, let it be as it is and don´t waste your time!

[MOC] Porsche 918 Spyder
brunojj1 replied to Jonfensu's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I´m glad the message has reached you . I guess I was wrong with 16L - shouldn´t it rather be 14L (don´t know how rare or expensive those are in your country)?... Anyway, you can get creative and try other options, probably you have a flex axle in some other colour available to spike some 2L black tubes on and/or use pneumatic tubes. Many people on here prefer puristic style, but depends more on what you like. I´m definitely building a manual supercar among others, but don´t expect too much and too soon. There is probably nothing unique to come because everything has been explored in this field as some others say . Not sure if I won´t change everything in my gearbox again and go on with smooth driving rings. The playing and understanding is more important to me than presenting spectacular results. All I want is a functional and comfortably playable (!) car where all the handles are where they have to be.- 19 replies

I´d rather stay on this - as somebody said recently: don´t ever get used to injustice! It bothers me a bit if we have to get a conformist style agreement on everything. Everybody has the right to have and to issue his own unbiased opinion without offending others, that´s what an interesting discussion forum is all about. A discussion can awaken different emotional feelings as well, we are not robots after all. If somebody from the "heavyweights" like Paul Boratko issues his opinion from bad experience - it´s valuable information and contribution to the discussion. If somebody is living in a country where such things as intellectual property and copyright are dumped like trash, well - he has the right to go on with that opinion too. If somebody doesn´t like the discussion at all, refrain from commenting, as Didumos said, who is the initiator of the discussion by the way !

It occurs that the dark gray female part of the CV joint gets damaged due to high torque. The material seems to be too soft for heavy use and tends to wear out or twist like normal axles do sometimes too. Simple solution: use universal joints instead.

[POC] Paddle Shifter Unit
brunojj1 replied to Didumos69's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks, that helped! I usually tend first to go towards "crash test" and many try-and-errors while changing here and there some details, examining the whole thing to be fool proof and don´t take care about all of the details at once. You are right, every minor detail is very important! Sounds silly, but I got it right only after putting a second silicon band onto the indexer and straighten the central knob gear within the cube. Strangely the latter one was working even in 45 degrees position before (not without jamming of course). Now it works like a charm, nothing left to improve technically ! Now let´s go into our local pubs and have a talk with our real friends . Cheers!- 24 replies

For me personally it´s fun to see rip-offs of my models from time to time - e.g. I´m amused about some more or less successfull "evolutions" of my BMW DTM on YT. I´m far less popular than the big guys who are really affected by this, my mentionnod example is a model I don´t earn money with and maybe that´s why I won´t mind in this case. Of course it´s unfair if the inspirational source isn´t mentionned at all, shame on them! We all know about Crowkillers rip-offs of his Gallardo or Porsche and so on. I saw as well the mentionned Harley Davidson rip-off recently at TLCB and immediately had the thought "I´ve seen this a while ago (Bricksonwheels?!?)". Could you mention some other bad examples exposing the evil? Wouldn´t it be a good idea to introduce a "Hall of Shame" where the rip-off is being shown with the name of the builder who doesn´t credit the original creator / sells instructions of someone else MOC / similar violations, showing the original model and name of the designer next to it? That would remind such guys in future to show more respect and give more attention to rather develop own skills and ideas. On the other side I can even immagine that such a procedure would encourage people without any talent to get popularity in any way and make an end to their miserable feelings of insignificance....
-
That sounds bad, but I think nobody can do hardly anything about it. The other side of the medal is IMO that you have profited from your fans a lot too, let´s rather see it the positive way. Your builds have been a good motivation for me ever since! But I´m alway trying to bring up something new in my MOC instead of copying from others which becomes harder and harder with the time in general. I guess I know who you are talking about ... We were young at some time too...

[POC] Paddle Shifter Unit
brunojj1 replied to Didumos69's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks for your effort! You´ve shown a "simple" solution which is hard to achieve though - great job again ! You should build your own "ultimate" manual chassis from these experiences, entirely and literally "detached" from the 42056! Concerning the use of the tan gears I caught you - I was right with my suspission that you used them to avoid 45 degree position instead of the required 90 degrees . After having rebuilt it according to your LDD file (I´ve overseen it yesterday, sorry!), I had several problems which are usual I suppose, such as jamming and slacking. Every detail is important to make everything work accurately as shown in your videos! There is still a lot of bending parts to make a proper shift. I like your innovation with the 90 degree cross axles which shift the central knob gear, this is the very crucial part. But I think there is some impovement necessary to prevent it from disengaging due to free rotation while spinning outwards from time to time (sorry, but I can´t explain it better in English). I tried several solutions which didn´t satisfy me much, none of them was working to 100% - means completely without jamming... Unfortunately there is too little space in my almost original Porsche to put some shift pedals in of which variant I was satisfied most on the test module. We´ll see, maybe I´ll work another day on it and come back to it tomorrow.- 24 replies

[POC] Paddle Shifter Unit
brunojj1 replied to Didumos69's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hats off to our favourite Porsche philosopher , you have improved the whole thing a lot ! I have a clue why you used the tan gears instead of knob gears, but maybe it´s worth to go a bit further in depth into your magic cube?... Your idea to "hide" these awful looking rubber bands (and even more disgusting yellow bushes) wasn´t so bad IMHO! Oh could somebody please make paddle shifters which actually look like or at least just give a glimpse of the look of real paddle shifters behind the steering wheel... EDIT: Your Porsche has become something like this now (please watch 11:30 !!) :- 24 replies

Ferrari FXX Supercharged V12
brunojj1 replied to Lox Lego's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That might be a new experience for you which is not only having fun (designing a proper MOC isn´t either). It´s fun to co-work with others, to get new perspectives, helps you to get more organized, to take more responsibility for others who want to build your model or e.g. to plan your next MOC more carefully. Fortunately there are guys out there willing to help such as Blakbird and Thorsten . They don´t make LDD instructions by the way, using more sophisticated software which requires very high skills on that which can´t be mastered by eveybody. You won´t regret it!- 142 replies

Thanks, I appreciate that! I think this hobby is far better to spend time with than filling your head with most of the other useless stuff which is popular nowadays. I just thought that after the recent reorganizing of the website the pictures were kind of lost. Modern software is supposed to do everything easier, but sometimes it does the opposite... The Lego Experts´s "marvels" are still showing up as huge signatures, I don´t really care, but it seems there is still some work to do for the programmers. Sorry, I didn´t want to cause you any trouble, thank you again for helping us ignorant amateurs !

[WIP] Bugatti Chiron 1:8
brunojj1 replied to Leviathan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Are you sure? Do you mean the real model´s length of the front part is 6cm longer than assumed? If so, you have to divide it by 1:8 = approx. 1 stud difference ?... At your previous version I counted 12 studs between the front edge and front diff, now we have 17 studs = 5 studs difference. I am bit confused now... But we are here to help each other .- 60 replies

You´ve finished this project already? Big applause, I love it !! Jaaps´ stickers is a must have for every Lego Dutchman ! Hopefully you will share some nice pictures of it? High resolution? I think in twilight it will look awesome with all the lights on board! I wish to make a trip on such a ship some day and till then stare at a wallpaper of the Lego version. -
Today I rebuilt the 42056 Porsche and replaced the red clutch gears by the old DBG. I implemented only Boratko´s gear sequence fix, Blakbird´s fix with bushes and turned the changeover catches around at the shifting column. The rest of the model stays as it is in the building instructions. I really can say, that the noise from the gearbox is the same compared to the original version and the white clutch engages at the highest gear due to friction. No difference at all.
