Congrats! I envy you and I'm feeling the temptation to build for a smaller car company at some time ...
-
Those who are building the manual chassis - please pay attention at step 23 on page 38: the DBG 1L beam attached to the red shifter is barely visible in the instructions and ideally should be shown in another separate sub step.

Do you think it´s a failure of the beta software that all 3 speed modes look the same? Another question: is the white balancing port still accessible when ports 1+2 are used? Nice to hear though that the connectivity works better than in the nightmare of early Sbricks. Can´t wait for mine to arrive...

Planetary gearboxes are useful in many real life applications. I used to work for a company which makes gearboxes for knife drives on harvesters. The rotary movement of a belt pulley is being converted into a pure linear movement of the rail where the knives are attached: Another interesting mechanism is this: Both planetary gearboxes near the center diff regulate (by intelligent software) the acceleration/braking on the outer/inner wheels which allows improving a car´s performance through cornering curves, depending on the radius and current speed.

Thanks, Eric! Great job, I won´t say "as always" because you have raised the bar on the renders this time . I´m happy if this could deliver some new interesting challenges to you, even if I have no glimpse how this all works. Some usefull tools in the hand of the master...

Technic Hall of Fame Discussion
brunojj1 replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I remember in earlier contests it was common sense to add not only the winners, but all 3 medallists(?). Therefore IMO the corresponding models of the last 2 contests should be added, including your suction excavator, Lipko´s Backhoe excavator etc. Some more suggestions from the supercar fraction: Jeroen Ottens Aston Martin DB11: and McLaren 675 LT: Sariel´s Pagani Huayra: -
It´s obvious that 2 XL provide more total torque value than this combination, especially if you compare the characteristics on Philos´ website. I made it in order to save space, otherwise I would have to build an entirely different chassis. By the way my next challenge will be finding a good mix between stronger RC motors and XL motors with differentials between, prabably with variable speed either imitating some kind of torque vectoring on different sides or gear changes (or both) ...
-
For those who want to build the PF chassis with V1 receiver (normal, without V2 mark) - I´ve tested the following setup at the drivetrain which I highly recommend: The gear reduction at the XL motor changes to 20:12, at the L motor it´s 1:1. The car moves slightly slower, but the performance is still good. No grinding gears or stalling motors at all. Those who fear that motors could be damaged being hard coupled this way - don´t worry, it´s a safe application. Otherwise motors would be regularly damaged under load, it´s not the case here.

It must be a great community here if you have the courage to tell people about this. As for me, I apreciate this and I won´t judge you! Your bad habit (I have some too ) - I think you would be even more creative if you would overcome it, probably with a good (abstinent) friend. We are strangers in this world... Although I can´t believe it was all fun being alone, I can imagine it was an interesting experience. Did you build something during this particular time? Sometimes I wish to escape my (not always) lovely kids, evil neighbours, noisy women at work and so on and get to a lonely island, of course with my legos, to get all the time and creativity needed to finish some nice projects... -
Your Lego version looks a lot better than the real car IMO ! The whole appearance is more consistent, lines are flowing better than in you previous cars. Your fenders are bold and unusual, but I can´t say I dislike them – in this case they seem to add more to good proportions than your earlier attempts. I like the fact you are seeking for new challenges like implementing a 4-speed gearbox, although you surely have realized that the possible max speed suffers a lot from that alone. The “swinging” suicide doors are funny and indeed could kill some pedestrians or moms with baby strollers walking by , they should open much slower. Very creative use of these flat angled grey parts ("sails", don´t know how to call them). Not sure about the use of the cheese slopes in the back and some other system parts, which should be used very sporadically in Technic builds. As others said: this is definitely your best creation so far! You are making good progress and gaining amazing skills very fast. Can´t wait to see your next one, but no hurry, take your time .

Unfortunately not, it´s just a "simple" drivetrain, differential powered by 2 motors (XL + L).
-
Thanks, Igor! Hopefully your son will enjoy not only looking, but playing with the car too . Of course you will be able to build it with the black round panels. I don´t know if you considered getting Jaaps´ stickers, unfortunately those on the roof wouldn´t fit then.
-
The stickers stock problem has been solved very quickly and all pending orders have been shipped today. Jaap has departed to Legoworld Denmark though, that means orders in the next few days will be delayed for that cause. Regarding the prices for instructions there was such consideration, as well offering at higher prices. After the launch nothing will change, BTW the prices are very moderate IMO. The platform where they are sold, doesn´t allow offering discounts anyway. Thanks! According to builders´ requests the "worse" of both chassis seems to be the manual chassis, and the "Silberpfeil" livery is being asked less than "AMG". It doesn´t correspond the efforts put into development and quality - it´s the other way around. Regarding the manual chassis I can undestand that - it´s the first manual chassis I´ve built and I´m rather known for building PF vehicles - just like you, Lucio . As well it´s understandable that not many opt for a white/orange livery due to higher parts costs. Effermann has bought off all orange panels available (joking) .
-
The numbers do not show the current status and the automated stock system needs to be fixed.
-
Thanks, guys! Praise for instructions should go to @Thorsten50, he did a great job and was even more careful than usually. Fully agree about the stickers, Jaap did a fantastic job ! By the way, the stickers stock has sold out in the first 2 days and he is waiting for new material - we are talking about delays about one week, which isn´t too bad IMO since most parts orders deliveries take the same time.
-
I have thought of you already, remembering your BMW lineup of which I still haven´t built all variations. Thanks in advance for building these too and especially for promoting Technic cars "down under" !

The mentionned parts have been replaced and the minor errors have been fixed. Updated instructions and partslists.

Lancia Delta S4 by dokludi

Impressive work! Love the details of the interior and engine bay. These axles / suspension are on a new level . IMO the wheels are a bit too small for the scale and the front end would look better if lowered at a slight angle. -
You will need only 2 x Black Technic Pin Connector Round 1L for the "AMG" livery at the "B" - pillars of the roll cage. The other 2 under the roof should be replaced by DBG, being invisible anyway. I have used DBG #32184 at the seats because I was short on cheaper 3M levers #6632. You can use the much cheaper (I didn´t know) 6x of DBG #6632 instead of #32184. In the manual chassis I´ve changed though the quantity of DBG #32184 from 1 to 3 due to an instructions error. All I can say is: SORRY! Instructions will be updated asap.

The mini engine 1. is a preferred construction of my own; 2. requires less space; 3. makes a lovely noise; 4. is far more in scale than the antiquated standard one. It´s not disproportionate and sits right there where the real engine of the real car is sitting. The gearbox functions and engine sound is shown off sufficiently in the video IMO, check it out. Or even better - build it yourself and study the details

Thanks! It´s relatively simple: calculate the XL motors´ rpm 220 x 3 (gear ratio 24:8) = 660 and the equilvalent of the L motor (not M btw) rpm 390 x 20/12 = 650. The total load is distrubuted on both motors and results in a very efficient torque value. Both motors engage the differential from both sides and are indirectly hard-coupled. No harm to the motors at all, don´t worry!
-
Thanks, mate! I´m sorry, the door is not as sophisticated as you think. It´s connected to a tan frictionless 3L pin only, of which the slack allows to put it at this slight angle. The "lock system" consists of nothing but a 3/4 pin under the door and a 1/2 pin at the panel behind. Should crawl into the Hall of Shame therefore ... You´re welcome, nice to hear such stories !

Thanks Eric! I´m feeling honoured if you wish to build and display it. Some nice renders from you would be really awesome as always, if you want to make some - I´ll write you and provide some data to you soon . Of course it would be possible to build the white/black version accordingly, if only the curved panels were available. Unfortunately the roof stickers wouldn´t match then. I don´t know if all these changes in the instructions / sticker sets will ever happen - depends on how big the interest in this model still will be in August with the release of the new panels.
