  1. Ooh, interesting! I too think the "action" sets are small pullback models. 42038 Arctic Tracked Vehicle could maybe be an articulated vehicle, sort of like the BV206? Given the last couple of years' 1H flagships, I wouldn't be surprised if the 42039 Long Distance Racecar is a rather large GT or LMP type endurance racer, hopefully with a manual transmission incorporating new gears As usual, I am most interested in what kind of new parts will be introduced, not the sets themselves
  2. You made the top of the engine compartment black
  3. Where does it say pneumatics are not allowed? On topic; looking forward to seeing the model make progress! Love your earlier work!
  4. HAHA, don't tell you were in the process of buying pieces to build yourself in LEGO Man, that would be epic! Maybe something for a future contest? Build Yourself In LEGO [bYIL]
  5. Thanks for the compliment regarding the truck In an earlier version of the truck I had the boom extention motorized, and needless to say; it was a lot easier! I had the motor inside the rear of the outer boom, and then a switch going through the bodywork, much like some of the pneumatic valves in the final model. I also had a compressor unit along with batterybox inside the cabin, so that's where it got the power from. Eventually I decided to make the compressor optional, and rather make an interior with seats and stuff. Thus I lost the batterybox, and thus I opted to remove the boom extention motor as well. In the end I was happy that the model was all-non-PF, even though the boom extention was pretty slow. At least I had a crank, and not just a double bevel gear for the mechanism
  6. I am very divided on this matter. As I find it immensely rewarding to make a complex geartrain that works just like intended, like the "gearbox" in my Swingloader Mk II, as seen in the picture below; ... I still find it very interesting to make MOCs without any PF or RC components as well! I still concider the 8x4 Recovery Truck I made last year to be my best MOC to date, and that didn't contain any electrical components, but rather I attempted to make it like I remember Technic sets from my childhood, albeit in a studless package
  7. Just missed out on the 1:8 scale Ferrari F1 Racer for 400 NOK (that's 40 UK£)... That means someone else has got a pretty good deal! The tyres alone are more than that on Bricklink!
  8. Wow, brilliant use of the propeller blades! Love it!
  9. I built Madoca's brilliant supercar from his equally brilliant instructions, and decided to build a similarly scaled model myself, using the RC Buggy components. While I was able to make the chassis just the way I wanted it, I have a serious handicap when it comes to supercar styling, as evident from my earlier tries in the pictures below: FAIL FAIL Getting there, but still: FAIL So eventually I decided to try to build Madocas very good looking bodywork around my RC chassis, more or less the one used in the white attempt two pictures up. This turned out very well IMO, but I had to make certain exterior modifications, partly due to the added bulk and placement of the RC Buggy motors, and partly due to me lacking some styling parts used in Madocas original model. Anyway, here is the result: As you can immediately see, the area around the rear wheels differs significantly from the original model. This is due to the RC Buggy motors, and the suspension setup (the motors and wheels are independently sprung, and need to pivot) Styling wise, seeing as this is a lot faster than Madoca's original, I found it appropriate to give it a heftier "exhaust system" Also, notice the different spoiler, which I later modified in a rather cool way This angle gives you a better view of the rear inside and the motors. You can also see the low profile independent front push rod suspension. Here is yet another view similar to the one above, but after making some more modifications. The rear spoiler is now deployable/retractable using a MicroMotor from the AUX output of the RC Unit. It uses a winch with string, as well as a rubber band for the action Also, due to the size of the RC Unit, the detailed interior of the original had to be sacrificed. Last picture. You can just barely see that the front "air intake" has been enlarged in going with the "GT/R/EVO/whatever" thought of the MOD. I still have the model built, but not with me at the moment, so I can't get an underbelly shot right now, but I'll get back with one at a later time On a side note; I really like the way the white wheels look on a red car So, VIDEO (sorry for driving out of frame on occasions ):
  10. Wow, the chrome really makes it pop! Reminds me; I've got to post a video of my modified Madoca's Supercar!
  11. I'm really bummed I couldn't make the deadline for the entry, especially since the model was finished long ago, but I wasn't able to make the final promotional- and parts pictures to put in the entry in time... The icing on the cake that for my entry was to be the full instructions I spent a couple of days making: Full instructions availabe HERE, as well as an updated LDD file HERE.. I made some part-saving mods to the LDD file after I made the instructions (particularly in the articulation area) to allow some more details while still staying at exactly 200 parts Will upload it to Rebrickable as soon as I get the chance! I want to give a big congratulations to the winner and runner-ups! Well deserved, truly great models! This contest has been just great, and the level on many entries are easily comparable (and some are even better than) to the official sets released by LEGO!
  12. Indeed, it does seem like the pinnacle of technical functionality in an official Model Team set, is steering. Even the monster truck didn't even have suspension, if I remember correctly..
  13. Machinery gives the widest range of Technical possibilities IMO, but a proper supercar can also be pretty freakin awesome from a Technical point of view. And I agree with TheItalianBrick, the official sets tend to get a bit repetitive
  14. I am very divided on the whole "should digital entries be allowed" thing. Principally I would say NO, but then again, personally, I hardly have any system bricks at hand, so if I were to enter the competition, it would have to be with a digital model And I think I am not the only one! On the other hand, I am pretty sure a physical model will stand a better chance of winning than a digital one! Love the contest though, can't wait to see the first entries! Also; Absolutely great that you have managed to get some proper old Model Team sets as prizes! Edit: Sorry to push the physical size question further, but the 45 x 15 stud limit sort of eliminates all sorts of fixed wing airplanes (which is fine by me). But how about helicopter rotors with more than two blades (more than 15 studs across) ?
  15. It just looks so infinitely awesome! What is the final piece count (excluding the "sea") ?
  16. Crap on a stick! I completely forgot! Away for the weekend, missing out on the contest...:-( Oh well, will post my final entry in My WIP topic:-P
  17. The looks are spot on! Good job! I actually bought this little set because I was two wheels short on my [mini] entry, and found the model so sweet I kept it built (with the front wheels swapped for some smaller ones)
  18. On closer inspection, I find some differences between the render and the pictures of the real model. Most notably the red axle pins in the render, the black 3x3 pin connector in the seat and the aforementioned grille piece between the seat and spare tyre.. Still, looks absolutely great. Looking forward to seeing more detailed pictures!
  19. Wow! Brilliant use of the grey "grille" part (between the seat and spare tyre)! IMO this must be the best car model in the contest so far!
  20. It looks great, but I'd try to swap the treads for the small, rubber ones. 8 tooth gears + chain links is pretty useless from my experience, plus you'd save a lot of pieces!
  21. The L-motors are conciderably more powerful, and some find them easier to integrate into a Technic construction despite their marginally larger size.
  22. 2 kg of black bricks you say? When he said "front suspension" in the film, my heart raced a little, then I realized it wasn't really suspension... Still, good idea to use the 3x11 panels for rigidity! The wheels will indeed look great on formula 1 cars, as "wet weather tyres" or something!
  23. This might very well be my first non-Technic set since I was maybe 8 years old!
  24. You need to have more mechanical advantage! In effect; you need to attach the LA lower in the chassis!
