1H2015 Video Reviews
D3K replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Looking forward to your video reviews, as always! As for the topic, I really like to read through and watch the pictures of a properly done written review as well, at least for the bigger sets (for example Jim's 42030 Volvo review was brilliant), so maybe this topic should be titled something like "Sariel's 1H2015 Technic Sets Video Reviews"? Just a thought.. -
Lol, that is kinda creepy, as this is exactly what I have been pondering today, after dumping the hook lift (pun semi-intended). The answer is yes, at least if using small LAs or possibly pneumatics to dump.
-
Thanks everyone! I'm glad you like it! It works pretty much flawlessly, the small LA's internal clutch clicking/twitching helping to get the axles into place on those few occasions where they don't fall in line perfectly. Could maybe be improved with a strategically placed rubbe band? Anyway, the chassis is a little tall to implement an effective and good looking hook lift design (due to suspension taking too much space), so I'll have to save this mechanism for a future MOC I'll make an LDD or MLcad model of the above mechanism today or tomorrow, and you can expect full instructions for the terrain truck (without anything on the back) before the end of the month. They are pretty much finished, just need to do some minor tweaking to the actual model to make it a bit more user friendly for future add-ons
-
I have made some progress on the design, but more importantly maybe, I have designed a new, more compact more reliable switching mechanism for the hook lift bed, as can be seen in the video below: The entire mechanism including bracing and motor is just 3 studs high (as you can see in the above picture). It uses the same principle as the one I showed last month with the pulley wheels, but in a far more reliable and clean fashion. Also, no need for rubber bands In the video you can also just see the final design of the fuel tank area, and the new (functional) roof lights EDIT: Will make an .lxf or .ldr of the mechnism soon, for those who might be interested

[WIP] Working Exo Suit
D3K replied to Zerobricks's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I love the looks and the video! Would be great if it was more "walking" and less "wiggling" though Still; unique and awesome model! I don't know if I have said so earlier, but your cheetah and wolf models are also absolutely awesome! -
That would probably work very well! As long as you can fit it all I think however it will be a little jerky, as the servo will move in 90/7 degree increments, unless you gear it. Not having the rechargeable batterybox myself, I wouldn't know how "hard" the speed dial is, nor whether it is free moving like the dials on the speed remote controller, or fixed with +/- 7 steps EDIT: Concidering your previous tank MOCs, space might not be such a problem

[MOC] MAN TGS 8x4 Tow Truck
D3K replied to M_longer's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Wow, it looks packed! And also very aesthetically pleasing! Very very well done model, can't remember having seen such a level of details on a tow truck of this style, so this is refreshing!;-) -
MAN TGS Tow Truck
D3K replied to Lakop's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Lol, I love the beginning of your topic M_Longer: "after nine months of building... " No doubt eager to show it off, and then Horace makes this topic:-D Looks awesome, will study your topic more closely;-) -
Thanks, I agree, the colour combination is not very fortunate.. However, I did find an alternative solution as well: Gives it a bit more speed without using the alternative gear setip I had though out, and it fits in by just adding a couple of bricks to where the XL's were attached. The L's are of course 3 studs wide, so I am thinking of closing off the entire area... maybe... Still haven't decided. Anyway, it'll be about a week before I can continue on the physical model. Will work on the instructions in the mean time
-
Thanks! Good to hear, I also follow your projects with great interest Progress has been slow over the last couple of weeks, with not much time to use on building, but I managed to come up with a solution for the gas tanks area that I am more or less satisfied with. The question I as myself is this: does it look better in white or grey? Please take a look at the pictures below and help me decide Combination LBG/DBG: White: Thanks for the feedback!

[WIP] RC Bike Prototype
D3K replied to piterx's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
THe heavier the wheels, the better, as it will have a gyroscopic effect (is this the proper term?), helping to keep it upright. I've been playing around with ani idea in my head, using the servo motor to shift some kind of weight from left to right and center to make it steer. What stopped me from making prototypes is the same problem you're facing: lack of space You'd need a basketball court or something similarly sized Like yours is now, the steering angle is way to big relative to the speed at which it travels. On my bike thought experiment, I think shifting the weight would be enough to get it to steer. A bike like this needs to go fast in order to maintain stability. I'm certain it will work! -

[TC5] Artic Truck
D3K replied to Eraman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This ended up very nice indeed!! But I agree with Jeroen, colours look a bit messy. Also; is it possible to use the outer boom, to add an extending function as well? -
[MOC] Off Road Pickup

Looks absolutely awesome, reminds me of Toyota HiLux modified by Arctic Trucks of Iceland! It alsways amazes me how you manage to make such beautiful lines on your MOCs! -

[HELP] Model out of "paper boundaries" in LPub
D3K replied to D3K's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Thanks! I meant the multiple comlumns on a single page, like step 1, 2 and 3 on top of each other, and to the right of them comes steps 4, 5 and six on top of each other.. And the secon question was if you can manipulate the position of the model easily, without losing the parts initially outside of the fram (see picture in first post) -
[HELP] Model out of "paper boundaries" in LPub
D3K replied to D3K's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
That might be a very good idea, but I can't seem to find out how to do it Is there a command you need to use, or is there a menu option somewhere? Thanks, that might also work! Not too familiar with programming, so not even simple commands are obvious to me Do you also have an easy way of "moving" the picture in the page? -
[HELP] Model out of "paper boundaries" in LPub
D3K replied to D3K's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Thanks a lot for the feedback! Rather odd that it works like that though So in effect, I make the page size big enough to fit the finished model, then center the work area of the individual steps (as well as parts call out?) on the page, and finally reset the page size to something satisfactory?
