  1. Excellent build and brilliant photography as usual, Ayrlego - the walls are textured neatly, the furniture is great, and the whole is just as polished as one would expect a Corry officer's room to look! Great job with the details like the hat rack (I may need to borrow that sometime ) and the shelves, and I'm looking forward to the continuation of the story (though I don't doubt but that there's something slippery about the Mardierian's offer there... !)
  2. "Excellent, excellent - things really get around fast in these halls!" Captain Whiffo began. "Well, then, my proposal would be this: "Until such time as the first Royal Eslandolan property may be licenced, or for the next two months (whichever ends sooner), I would propose that we put in place, A 20% tax on build submittal income, And a 10% tax on town banks, as per the good Governor's proposal. After said time expires, the treasury could be scrutinized, and any need for further taxation considered. "As for Royal Properties, I suggest that we send out a letter signed by the members of the Colonial Council to every settlement of Eslandola, asking for voluntary aid for the construction of three Royal Properties for the faction - the first to be completed between the first of June and the last of August, the second between the first of September and the last of November, and the third between the first of December and the last of February of the year 618. If they could be completed sooner - even better! But I do believe that is a modest goal to aim for at the moment, given that all our citizens have their own stories and wallets to be looking after as well." "Such is the proposal which the ETWC would like to see under discussion on the floor of the house." .... Agent Guelds, however, could not be persuaded to agree to even that, however, given the little thing about taxes contained in it... One 'Yea' One 'Nay' from the ETWC bench for Captain Whiffo's proposal. And, as it never even occurred to Captain Whiffo to vote either for or against his own proposal, One Abstention (and let's hope he doesn't get a fine for not actually writing it in...)
  3. Thanks all! Ha, ha, thanks Sleg! Given the name of the contest, I was trying to use as many little techniques and details as possible in this tiny space! I know what you mean about the lack of clutter - I think it was a bit of a combination of not wanting to crowd out all the other techniques in a muddle of confusion and the fact that he's just, well, a neat alchemist Actually, a whole lot of organized confusion in LEGO form can really be somewhat complicated to build at times - sometimes your mind just wants to keep things tidy! Thanks SK, glad you like it! The fig was the starting point of the whole thing! Thanks Grover! Glad to hear it! And yes, dark brown is great!
  4. (Commotion in the ETWC bench) Once again Agent Gilles Guelds leapt to his feet. "Income taxes!?!" he exclaimed, "what is this I hear, sirs? Is this Eslandola's august Council or a band of marauding Sea Rats?" "Ahem! - actually, the Sea Rats don't have income taxes either." This, with an elbow, from the first mate. Ignoring him, however, Agent Guelds went on, "Why, I'll say, if all your grandmothers wouldn't be a-rolling over in their graves if they could hear you all now! Tell me, what kind of freedom is there when a nation's government claims the right to forceably take from its citizens the gains of their own diligence and labor and use it for its own purposes?! THIS IS ESLANDOLA!!!!!" The worthy agent leapt onto the desk before him, which crashed in half with a resounding bang. Two monkeys quickly took it out and brought in another one. Captain Whiffo now stood up as well, and likewise condemned in sounding voice the notion of instituting any such thing as an income tax. Myles Bowditch thought that the assembly had probably heard enough from the ETWC bench on the subject, and just wrote his vote down on the tiny slice of paper. Three 'Nays' from the ETWC bench for the latest proposal.
  5. (The door swings open and in walk Captain Whiffo, Myles Bowditch, and Agent Gilles Guelds [this chap, who after that deal had been hired by the ETWC]. After a liberal number of bows and nods, all three took their places in the ETWC seats.) "I call for a vote," Governor Guilder had just exclaimed. Agent Gilles looked around, nudged his neighbor quietly, and asked, "I say, sir, what exactly is going on here?" "Taxes, my dear sir - taxes," replied the other. Up started the worth agent, exclaiming, "Never, my good sirs! You'll never catch me voting for taxes!" and he sat down as abruptly, to the surprise of every member of the assembly (except the ETWC bench, who had already guessed what was coming). At least it had the good effect of waking some of them up... Captain Whiffo very nearly joined him in expressing the selfsame sentiment, but after a hearty discussion with his first mate, both decided that given the current state of things, the tax proposed by the good Governor wasn't such a very bad idea - provided, at least, it was put to good use and the frivolous state expenditures were promptly halted (most of which had thankfully just expired anyways...). Two "Aye's," One "Nay," from the ETWC bench.
  6. Very funny and clever entry, Captain B, great lineup and story, and I really like the different accessories up on the side of the build, as well as the thinness of it, which works very well! Overall an excellent entry - go Eslandola!
  7. Those new horses are so awesomely poseable! Great job here, Exetrius, very nice bit of landscaping and great job capturing the movement!
  8. Awesome work here, Sleg, you definitely went all out for this AoM build (and just phase I!! Looking forward to the next one! ) Excellent bridge and riverbank, and all the figs and action really bring the build to life! Those trees are always great too, and the base, while I think it may be a bit over-studed, is a very innovative approach! Keep it up!
  9. Wow! - another very impressive entry here, to start out with, that's simply a stunning number of builds! The first two elf-ish ones have some very nice and appropriate color choices and architecture, and all the messenger ones are very nice as well (Sionnach probably being my favorite of those!) As Kai and the others have said, the four-way battle is very clever, and the eight-helm dilemma is an excellent idea too (and a great build)! The last two definitely put this entry over the top, though - brilliant work with that throneroom, and the Grand Griffon Tavern is very nicely executed as well! Altogether, a spectacular job!
  10. Thanks, Maestro! I think the rubber band may have been my favorite part as well - at any rate it turned out to be a great solution for someone with no white hair Thanks, Titus! Glad you enjoyed the bit of story too! Those curtains were definitely complicated - especially because the curved room meant they had to stick out a tad at the bottom to not mess up the walls! Thank you! Thanks Captain B! Thanks Faladrin! The hinge plates certainly are one good way to do it, but you'll almost always need something dark behind it as it otherwise lets way too much light through! Thanks Kai, glad you like them! The round wall was a must for an alchemist's! Thanks, HQ! To tell the truth I'm not too happy with the smoke either - when you get so close and detailed, smoke is actually a very complicated thing to make look right... Glad you liked those legs, though, I figured I should get some good use out of those pieces!
  11. Wow! An excellent group of MOCs, Titus, you've definitely been quite busy lately! My favorite is probably the Beggar-King - just absolute epicness there! - but the others are very nicely done as well, especially the Grand Griffon, High Council (excellent interior scene! - taking cue from some of Historica's great old builders, I see ), Quest to Eolas (superb work with that gateway, and the swamp and house fit in perfectly as well!), and the final Mitgardian scene (awesome architecture, and great idea with the lights inside)! I am sorry to hear of the great Steen Larson's death, though, may his legacy live on! Now I'll go back and look over them all again...
  12. Wonderful color-scheme here, LJ, and excellent architecture as usual too! You've got some really neat figs here as well - overall a superb build! Keep it up!
  13. Excellent build! Those slanting walls are great, as is the roof and rock-work, and I definitely think it's a great improvement over the original (though that druid must have had a good head to avoid getting giddy up there! ) Looking forward to where you go this next year - keep it up!
  14. Funny story, Faladrin, and I totally should have been able to guess it! I agree with Titus about the first build (those lily pads are a great detail too!), but the monster is quite terrifying as well!
  15. Here's something! I've actually got a good deal of plans for GoH builds (and story! I really need to get going somewhere with that!), but time and other builds have kept pushing those back... I definitely do mean to try to get some entries in to the fifth anniversary challenge, though!
  16. Living in a tower at the top of Rothenheim mountain in northern Mitgardia, Dwalin Forksek, of dwarven descent (though he somehow managed to grow out of it), was generally know as simply "The Alchemist." In utter disregard to the smoke and explosions often heard rumbling out from his cozy workplace and the public's opinion of them - not a very favorable one, by the by - the Alchemist was always certain that he was on the verge of some magnificent discovery which would forever change the course of history. At the moment he was engaged in boiling some yellow substance to vapors in a large cauldron, and - let's see - maybe one more turn of the timer would do... KA-BANG!!! Or then again, maybe not... One thing was certain, though - and that was that the next time something important would be discovered! Not that something wasn't discovered this time too, namely, Do not overcook boiling yellow substances... The room: And our worthy, painstaking laborer in the pursuit of science: A fun little build for GoH (glad to be posting something around here again!) and the first round of the LCBTC, enjoy! Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome!
  17. Thanks Kai, glad you like it! Posing those Garveyians with those huge things on their heads was not easy work! Glad you enjoyed the ship as well, I was quite happy with how it turned out (even if I didn't have time to do ratlines - probably a blessing, though! ) A few more shots of the ship itself for you all! Broadside: Stern:
  18. Nice! That crane looks great, and the orange and yellow (not to mention that light-up brick! ) work very well here! Keep it up!
  19. Very humorous story and excellent build, Maestro, the stone-work - especially the chimney - is superb, and the Tudor is quite nice as well! I'm liking that base as well, and this is definitely one of my favorite entries to that contest so far! Keep it up!
  20. Another neat build, Phred, great little vessels (I especially like the use of the bar pieces there!), and the cooking fish are great as well! Keep it up!
  21. Very nice build, Phred, excellent job on the roof (both the slanting sections and the stripes on top!), and that first picture of the stables is really great! And, , awesome interior as well!
  22. Excellent job with those sails and rigging, Sebeus, that really takes the ship to another level entirely! Out of curiosity, did you draw all the sail lines by hand (I've done that once myself, but I had already got the thing curved so it was way to hard to get the lines to resemble anything straight )? Regardless, the ship really is superb!
  23. Very nice landscaping and excellent fortress, Dr. Rod, and great to see you around here again! The activity and details around the stalls is probably my favorite part of it all, though! Keep it up!
  24. Very nice build, Kai! As I said on flickr, the color-scheme works great, and those vines are excellent as well! I think the house probably sits better here than in the original build, too, and that fig is really cool!
  25. Hmm, not a bad offer. May the contractor licence and run the factory themselves for the afore-named compensation if they belong to another faction? (Note: I'm totally not sure if I'll have the time to do this myself - I've got heaps on heaps of things on my to-build list already. Mostly just curious, but you never know when an opportunity to build something not on the list might make its appearance )
