  1. Well you know, I dare say that represents RL fairly well - a pirate would most likely either strike it rich or end up in the red if he fails to catch anything (especially if just sailing out without much of an idea where prey is to be found - less likely if the Eslandolans all tell you exactly where they're going ); and AFAIK most pirates preferred one or two fast ships to a large squadron... that said, we all do like and want pirates around, so I'm sure we'll be working to find a way to balance the two out somewhat more Definitely That was one of the things many leaders wanted addressed in the new MRCA, and I'm confident that this'll help very much to encourage more risky, adventurous, exciting runs for those who want to strike it rich
  2. Make sure you don't move at all! Very funny build, Captain B, and I'll echo the others in remarking that this works very nicely for a wheat field - quite surprisingly well! Looking forward to the future of this story!
  3. This whole post. I especially want to see this put into place, though - I know that there was a mechanic in the old MRCA for trade ships to be captured with their cargo or part of their cargo, and I'm not sure how it came about that it never seemed to have been used... At any rate, it's definitely something I want to see addressed in the new MRCA - as you say, with the upkeep rules, there has to be some good way for a pirate to make his DBs while out on business (besides just the dubious one of selling captured ships)!
  4. Thanks Kai, glad you like it! Thanks Titus! And yes, I do agree that there are a few too many colors/textures here, probably, giving it a bit of a confused feel... the little details were a lot of fun to add, though! Thanks Captain B! Thanks Henjin! Figured I ought to get some use out of those awesome orange leaves! Glad to hear you say so! Thanks mate! Thanks Gunman! And yep, I do like that rabbit!
  5. Ha, ha, yes, I remember that one! You're definitely heading the right direction - keep it up, mate!
  6. No, wasn't me (except maybe the candles - but I was referring more to the great use of that torch piece). I may just return you the favor of stealing it myself, though!
  7. Very nice work with the build and story here, Capt Wolf, and great to hear something from the Eslandolan side! Love all those quips about the plank and suchlike too! A neat and tidy tavern scene, and that chandelier has some great parts usage and looks superb Keep it up, mate!
  8. Hmm, no good can come of this! Those cracked and broken floorboards look great, blackdeath, and the broken walls are nice as well, though I find it somewhat difficult to envision what exactly happened to the house to make it look like that! The details inside the house are a neat addition, and if I had one piece of advice, it'd probably be to try to make your lines of sand less regular and include more tiles in it (though, to be sure, tan tiles aren't my strong suit either! ). Definitely looking forward to seeing where you take this, anyways!
  9. Another build! - again for the LCBTC, and for the AoM too, this time. A bit of an introduction for some new characters I hope to develop as well! And now I really need to get down to work for something for the summer joust soon!
  10. Finally, something more from me! Barracks Phase II, here!
  11. It was a nice, bright morning in the open spot where Barnaby's outlaw band had decided to set up training camp. Barnaby himself (the fellow leaping up with the axe in front) was an expert at every sort of thing which was against the law in Mitgardia - from smuggling Kaliphlinian oil to old grandma's who made a point of only buying goods that hadn't been taxed, to relieving rich travelling peps of a bit of extra cash, to cheating in every contest and challenge he entered... Over time, Barnaby had gathered together a fairly good sized group of fellow rascals - but, as his band had a bad habit of bumbling every job they went on, he had decided it was time to take them in hand and make sure they got some adequate training in the rudiments of successful outlawry. So here goes for - Tips on how to become a great Mitgardian Outlaw! - or perhaps better titled, Why you shouldn't bring a lance to a joust with a sneaky Mitgardian outlaw (at least not just a lance!)... First, of course - like we just said, never bring a lance to the lists against a fellow outlaw! Next, always carry an extra (concealed, and probably un-allowed) weapon! Eat and laugh (though probably not at the same time...) - both are way more healthy than you'd think! (Disclaimer: if you're on the run, don't keep your eyes shut while laughing longer than you have to...) Always keep an eye on the weapons... And on the gold. And of course, always cheat! Just a quick build to introduce some new characters which I mean to keep using, hopefully - a kind of Mitgardian version of a group of forestmen (since we're not tree-huggers, you know!) and for the second round of the LCBTC. Overall it didn't end up quite as I'd envisioned it, but I'm fairly happy with the result - not nearly my best, but pretty good for the short amount of time I allowed myself for it! A lot of design credits to hand out here, too! The tree on the right is based on Joeri Ridder's great design, that on the left by some of SK's, and the rabbit is definitely inspired by Balbo's great rabbit design (though somewhat modified with the peg instead of the faun's leg - mostly because I'm simply not in possession of one of those, haha!) And I'll leave you with a final figless overview: Anyhow, thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome!
  12. Neat little ship, Kotz, those colors work great together, and the details on the sides are excellent! A great, trim little craft! My only advice would be to add some tiles or something to the white section in front to spice it up (just seems to look a little bland there) - and maybe trying to add some rigging, strings with bar clips work great for that, just check out any of KB's builds! Embedded your pics for you!
  13. Love your turrets, Capt Wolf, and great to see more builds inspired by the MRCA results! Good work giving it to those Mardierians hot, but that's unfortunate about poor Gov. Guilder - well, let's just hope he likes the idea of a peg! Quite a nice doctor fig as well, and I really should look into getting some of those ESL troop torsos some time!
  14. Thanks, Captain B! And no problem - we're just deciding to send out a letter to encourage Eslandolans to build some stuff (Royal build collabs) for the faction overall to licence Thanks, Ayrlego! That's exactly what I was going for, so glad it came across well!
  15. Awesome build, Kai! Great job packing out the scene and filling it with awesome little details (like all the stuff hanging down from the hooks and ceiling!), and that floor technique is excellent as well! Splendid work overall (especially for how much time you left youself ), and you've definitely nailed the castle kitchen feel!
  16. Category D results are in (tired of all 'o them yet? )! Too bad! Check the newest developments out here!
  17. Category D results! Just one more to go! - and great showing for this entire (ridiculously) huge challenge, folks!
  18. Breaking News - Mardier's Bumbel Tuna Fleet is No More!!! ...May 617, Eslandola... The newest developments of the war, as told by the daily Pontelli newspaper: News has been slow in coming in from the Tuna Straits... and just this morning we have discovered why! - Mardier's whole famous (or infamous???) Bumbel Tuna fleet has been smashed by the Garvian fleet, and now rests snugly, no doubt, upon the bottom of the sea! Not only was Captain Rijsk's large fleet of disguised warships fishing smacks well-nigh obliterated (and what wasn't sunk was sailed away with), but the rest of the company's fleet was pummeled as well, only a few especially cunning fishermen and a few rowboats escaping a similar fate! Garvey has pulled off a feat only rivaled in recent times by the Sea Rats' last expedition, and the allies look expectantly forward to Mardier's final defeat! It's pockets are certainly hurting - that's for sure - and the only thing which might save them now would be that city of gold, rumours of which have been wafted around more and more... Is Mardier ready to give in? Can it recover from this tremendous blow? Is the lost city of Gold merely a myth, or are the Mardierian's about to strike the leprechaun's fabled pot? ... 19. Very nice little build, Ayrlego, loving that roof, and the kiln and overall color-scheme are great as well! I do agree with Bregir that a tiled piece would probably look better on the wheel, but that's a very small point in an excellent MOC! And now you're making me hope/wish they'd come out with mugs and other vessels in dark orange for things like this!
  20. Hmm, quite a curious (and dashing, as Ayrlego stated! ) fellow! I'm definitely looking forward to see this story unfold! Nice landscaping and trees too, and all those coaches are very neat! I do hope we see more of such adventures in BoBS! (Oh... does that make me sound too much like a Sea Rat? )
  21. Excellent entry, Faladrin - love that first build (all the gold, especially! ) But serious, both the minifigures and landscaping in that one are very nice, and the golden gate in the second one is absolutely fabulous (as well as the use of that baseplate - very well done!) - great use of those spruce pieces from the middle of coins! The vegetation and huge plants are excellent in that one too On your last build I would have suggested putting a tower or maybe a guard or two on the large wall just to spice it up a little, and adding some more variation or things floating around in the water might have been good too. I really do like the straw in the dungeon and the yellow and brown twigs on the beach, though - excellent little details there! I'm also glad to hear of the progress in Felipe's quest!
  22. Wow that pyramid! Truly impressive, that! As the others have said, very nice design with that rug on the first build too... but - that pyramid is definitely the stand-out piece here! A very, erhm, Mardierian story as well - way too believable!
  23. Thanks Blufiji! Those curtains were probably the thing I spent most time fiddling around with! Thanks, mate!
  24. Loving that first little build with the waterfall, Bregir - ingenious idea and beautiful execution with that cutaway! Very nice story and awesome bonfire in the second build as well, looks great in the dark, too! I know it may be a bit of pointless complication with an MOC, but in my personal experience I find some wood in the center and around the bottom of a fire built this way helps a great deal in avoiding collapses when the fire begins to do its work on the wood around the edge - but as I said, that's a pretty small thing, and I dare say it would have made the light-up brick ridiculously more complicated too! The terrain could definitely use some more texture and variation as well, and I probably would have just left out the tan base on the bottom if possible, but good job just getting something in! And on time, too! Haha, just kidding - keep up the nice work!
  25. Thanks Kai! And yep, those dark brown pillars are great! Thanks Elos! - and thanks for the window inspiration too! I love that floor technique too (although it is quite parts consuming!), and I find that dark brown is often an excellent addition to a predominately reddish brown build Thanks Sir Stig! Including a lot of people's figs was definitely something I wanted to do here (and it's just always fun to include others in your builds/see you figs in other people's builds)! Thanks Capt Wolf! And yes, replicating other's (great) builds is a lot of fun too! I want to see more of the Colonial Council and it's actions reflected in people's builds, so I thought - may as well as start doing that myself! And kudos to you for having easy-to-build figs!
