  1. Fantastic review and great pics - thank you for sharing. Overall, I'm on the fence about the set, but will wait till after seeing the movie before deciding. Granted the build isn't much, I'm hoping their might be some iconic scene involving it in the movie and that might make the set more meaningful. Realistically, though it's probably still just going to be the backdrop for a CG heavy fight scene and then this set goes back to being a wall with some nice minifigures. Time will tell...
  2. Local Lego store was out of the Star Wars one today, which was pretty strange.
  3. The store here still have them - Target, TRU, Walmart. The local Lego store sold out of them at one point, but had them back in about 1-2 weeks later. I think with prices going up on various items across the board, the fact that the Advents stay consistent keeps them popular. Plus, at this point (at least for SW) it's becoming more of a tradition.
  4. Thank you! I may have to hunt one down since they're not going to be going for as much as they once were.
  5. Local Lego store has The Orc Forge on clearance for $31.99. Not bad for the parts and army-building... I'm hoping it might still be around for Black Friday.
  6. Man, I wish those Shocktroopers were in another set. Not being a CW fan, means I will pass on the gunship easily, but I could really use the Shocktroopers... Oh, well. I do like the Tri-Fighter from a design standpoint and the Palpatine makes it that much better. Really like the microfighters; I think that line will work a bit better than the planet series did.
  7. Is the mini Hogwarts Express the same one that was offered with a purchase at the Lego store and Lego's site a couple years ago?
  8. I worry alittle about the Laketown Guard poly. I only ever found five of the Mirkwood Elf and that was after a stock person found them somewhere else in the store - like someone had stashed them to purchase later. I did find the Frodo one in by the ton and none of the Gandalf one. Hopefully, I might be able to get out hunting and get the jump on the Laketown Guard...
  9. More of a recent acquisition than anything else, but I found the Krang polybag (30270) at Target in their holiday section. Contains Krang in his robot suit and a blaster for shooting (brick built) mini-Turtle figures.
  10. I'm hoping for more of the 80s - 90s costumes, as they're more eye-catching and recognizable. Sure, Lego could sell some sets from the new movies and whatnot, but with all the minifigures wearing mostly black, it would be hard to appeal to parents. Granted Marvel has a ton of movies lined-up, I hope the Marvel license can be a type of "evergreen" theme in that we get non-movie sets mixed in. I was really happy with the Wolverine Chopper set, since it showcased figures not immediately in a movie.
  11. I think it just depends on the license or series. Thor, Hawkeye, Zombie Car, and the Mirkwood Elf all went super fast around here. Thor was a good cheap way to get the character, Hawkeye was a good alternative from buying the set with Loki and Iron Man who both appear elsewhere, the Zombie Car was a cheap zombie compared to the CMF, and the Mirkwood Elf was a great army-builder type for LOTR/Hobbit and Castle fans. Meanwhile, the mini-ships like the TIE Fighter and Headhunter barely moved. And the orange Galaxy Squad walker that was free with purchase at the Lego store became a pegwarmer at Target a couple months later.
  12. Hoping to get the invite, as I know I spent more at the local Lego store this year than last year...
  13. I'll wait for the updated Chewbacca to appear in an OT set later on. I don't hate the PT or anything, but the gunship does nothing for me. The other ROTS sets do look good, and I'll probably be in for half of them.
  14. For me, DC wins this round with better build concepts and minifigure choices. I'm hoping this means a stronger second half for Marvel in 2014...
  15. I'd have it run thru Thanksgiving. Maybe even post it Thanksgiving Day if you have to. That way you can catch Black Friday and Cyber Monday for people shopping online. During that time period, people tend to spend the most money.
  16. Republic Gunship, which also netted me the Clone Lt polybag, part one of the 2013 Holiday Set, and double VIP. October has been a good month for buying...
  17. Hmm... 300 feedback since '99 - how much of that is current? Also how much of this type of item do you sell? Those would both be two other major factors people would look at when buying from you. For example, if I was a buyer looking at your auctions, I would scrutinize over the lower feedback score given the lengthy timeframe - obviously this isn't a business to you, so that would play into the buyer's perspective (especially depending on the value of the items selling). With that said, I would still vote for maybe the day or a couple days before Thanksgiving.
  18. A lot would depend on your seller rating. If it's too low, I would start the auctions sooner to give buyers a sense of confidence that if things don't work out it can be resolved in time. Generally, I would look at the end of November.
  19. It looks like according to my calendar I got yesterday that there will be two Holiday Sets offered this year with a $99 purchase. Set 40082 is running now with the $99 purchase and set 40083 is running between Nov 29th and Dec 2nd with a $99 purchase. Last year there was just one holiday set... this might make it tough, as I just got the one yesterday because of the double VIP points.
  20. Really wish they sold these super sets at the Lego store... All three are still on my list and I could use the VIP pts.
  21. I think the CMF and such items as the minifigure accessory packs fill this niche pretty well. The accessory packs also come with a few bricks, so there's some building element - my favorite being the Halloween (or Monster Fighter) pack.
  22. Lego could at least make these an online exclusive in the US... even if just sold from their own site. Otherwise, cutting out a key market on the last series of a given line seems very unfortunate.
  23. The A-Wing and Homing Spider Droid in order to get the Clone Lieutenant.
  24. As a toy collector who has gone through dark times I don't know often, I can say it really pays to hold on to some of the stuff. Even if you just keep it in storage or in a friend or relative's attic/basement, you might find you will miss it one day and want it back. Plenty of times I thought I outgrew something or wanted to quit and dumped everything, only to want it back later on when I wasn't so distracted. Sure, life always gets in the way, but it's certain hobbies that help keep me on track and happy. I especially recommend keeping the rare or hard-to-find stuff, as you will really kick yourself if you ever want that back.
  25. Does the red VIP minifigure keychain count? I know it wasn't part of any one particular program, but it was very nice and random - a pleasant surprise in the mail. Otherwise, I would go with the Christmas 2012 set, also.
