Save money for UCS X-Wing or buy the UCS R2D2?
HawkLord replied to hachiroku's topic in LEGO Star Wars
R2-D2 easily. With the X-Wing, there have been so many other versions of it, that I think it'll always be around in some form. The only reason I would get it is for the UCS ttile, but even then it might just get kept in a box in storage. Meanwhile, you don't see an R2 item like this often. -
Bilbo Baggins (blue jacket) exclusive figure with DVD
HawkLord replied to SheepEater's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I'm in. Target exclusives are also so easy to get because their inventory tracking is spot on. -
I'd be thrilled if it that offer got to the states, it's a nice discount for wrapping up sets.

I would pass on a red Stormtrooper, as it doesn't look that good. Rank markings like those on the Stormie Commanders I can stand, but the straight red doesn't look half as good as the regular white Stormie. As for transparent/ghost figures Hasbro did that so to death, that I can't even look at something like this. Hasbro action figures, Fighter Pods, Gentle Giant busts - the holographic/ghost design is so cheap looking and done to death. I know I can trust Lego wouldn't abuse it to the extent that Hasbro has, but I still have no use for it.

I'm sorry, but African-American Ultimates Nick Fury is SLJ. That's who the African-American Ultimates Nick Fury was based on over ten years ago. That's who the character is supposed to look like. Any other variation on the design is still coming from that original source and just because another artist might draw him slightly different, still does not detract from the concept that it's supposed to be SLJ. I mean, you'd have a point if it was just a happy coincidence that Ult Nick looked like SLJ, but we know for a fact that it's supposed to be a complete copy of SLJ face just with an eye-patch.

I gotta say that the Samuel L Jackson Nick Fury does count because SLJ was the source behind the African-American Nick Fury. As mentioned, when Marvel drew up the Ultimates storyline, they changed Nick Fury from a white guy (who looked like David Hasselhoff) to an African-American based on SLJ - without his permission. SLJ liked the idea and let Marvel roll with it. When it came time to make Avengers based movies, Marvel choose to use SLJ. My opinion is that since African-American Nick Fury was orginally based off of SLJ, subsequent versions of African-American Nick Fury all tie back to SLJ. It's not so much a concept of an artist's rendering, like with Joker, it's more based on a factual representation.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 10 Discussion

Pretty good set overall. I'm in for the Warrior Woman, Roman, Medusa, and maybe a gold man. All of those will be so easy to feel for, it's not even funny. I just have to make sure I get to the case first and it should be easy pickings.- 1,076 replies

I'm hoping for a Jim Lee 90s era X-Men team, Days of Future's Past X-Men, and classic Fantastic Four. All being complete-able within a wave or two, so I'm not waiting too long to finish or round out a team.

Another Endor battle pack from Target. I should probably get at least five or six more before they disappear, being that it's my second favorite battle pack behind the Hoth Snowtrooper one.

You should check out the Star Wars sets... -
I would definitely be in for an UCS set that was more a playset or diorama piece, although I'm pretty sure that will not be a reality.

When after a tough day at work, you don't head down to the pub, you head down to the local Lego store to drown your sorrows in the bricks. Yea, that's my Friday evening at least once a month...

I'll echo what's already been stated - yes, Lego is getting better. It's the hallmark of a fundamentally successful company to continue growing, changing, and innovating their product. I honestly cannot think of another toy company that has been able to achieve what Lego has - Hasbro, Kenner, Mattel, etc have all had moments and in some cases years of excellence, but Lego beats all of them.

Bought another copy of the Skiff set - I really like that Luke and Fett.

Also the box pic shows Pepper wearing the armor, as she did when she became Rescue in the comics. There's also pics of the Iron Man vs the Mandarin: Ultimare Showdown set (IM and Mandarin in a different look from the Malibu Attack, some kind of buggy/tank for Mandarin, 91pcs) and Iron Man: Extremis Sea Port Battle set (IM, Warmachine, some other figure I can't make out, speeder boat, 195pcs). -
Replication of the LEGO Build-a-Minifig bins

QFT. Everytime I go to the local Lego store, they have one store employee who circles the BaM station repeatedly. Not the usual greeter at the door employee; this one specifically seems to focus on the BaM station. Probably to make sure people aren't pocketing pieces, among other duties. -
Just got one in the mail - must have arrived yesterday. Very cool little figure. Looks just like the VIP minifigure and being red, has that Valentine's Day appeal. I know there's been mention of these being sent out based on spending habits since Black Friday and in checking my account, I've spent $384 in that time. I guess it might stand to reason the cut-off might be $350 or less.

LEGO Collectible Minifigures Golden Minifigure Discussion

Seriously, I'm glad there's these chase gold figures. It means that the price of the average figure will go down for this set compared to others on the secondary market. It's kind of like Magic:The Gathering cards (or any other CCG, Heroclix, etc). People buy cases and cases just to get the chase stuff to flip - in most instance they make a profit on the wholesale end. Meanwhile everything else they pull ends up flooding the market. You can buy one chase Magic card for $100 or 100 common Magic cards for $10 (or less). Lego could throw in a Spartan in this set and the gold chases will drop the Spartan's secondary market price down to retail or less. And again, as long as the gold chase figure is not on a checklist or shown in any way as "part" of the set proper, than completists really have nothing to worry about.- 87 replies

I'm impressed with most of these. Homing Spider Droid, Tank Droid, and Battle on Geonosis are definite and I'll probably be in for the Republic Gunship. Meanwhile the price on Jabba's Sail Barge is just too high. Seems like the Jabba's ROTJ stuff is getting pricey.
