  1. Bob looks so funny sitting with his smug smile on the back of a wizard's wagon. Really neat terrain, the black plants look right at home in Nocturnus and those are some majorly creepy animals. Where are they from?
  2. This whole scene is super impressive, and I really love the way the water line curves along the shore! The sand castle is neat too, helps bring it to life and nice use for those new 1x1 bricks with technic axle holes in 'em!
  3. Welcome to the guilds! Varlyrio will be glad of your help I'm sure.
  4. Great lighting, really like the dark red and orange tiles! The skeleton bones are a good addition. Definitely reminding me of a painting I've seen of Daniel in the lion's den... which is totally a good thing!
  5. Thank you! Thanks Grover! This size MOC is really the perfect size for spending time on little details without feeling like it's futile because they'll be lost in the final pictures! Thank you! It was fun to use some bright colors.
  6. That makes sense. In fact, I figured it was something like that (well, cloth stuffed with straw was what I was thinking...) but it's still giving me scary vibes.
  7. The saga continues, two new chapters posted. Chapter XVII Chapter XVIII
  8. Chapter IChapter IIChapter IIIChapter IVChapter V Chapter VI Chapter VII Chapter VIII Chapter IX Chapter X Chapter XI Chapter XII Chapter XIII Chapter XIV Chapter XVChapter XVI Chapter XVII Chapter XVIII (you are here) Chapter XIV King Fernando’s expression of sorrow at the news of Commodore Argentum’s tragic passing was particularly touching. “Never more!” he sobbed, “never more shall I find so true a friend, so sincere a sympathizer in my sorrows, or one who so consistently replenished my supply of nightcaps!” So, this is kind of what I was trying to do with that terribly lame Chapter XVI, in terms of using the black flower pieces. A bed turned out much nicer than a rug, and I was able to use a couple of spares for the king's pillow and night table cloth. The pillars were also fun to work out, I really like the design but unfortunately, even with the help of my two brothers, four of those dark grey sloping things was all I was able to pull together. So I probably won't get to use the design in a larger scene anytime soon! Another thing that was fun was the micro version of Captain Argentum. C&C welcome!
  9. This is a really neat idea, great bustling feel to it too! I love how people are doing the randomest things, like holding scissors and playing flute! P.S. the head on a barrel that the girl is talking to is really creeping me out...
  10. This build has a really neat layout, the variety of balcony height seems to fit with an Eslandian style. I like the way you started off with more dark tan on the bottom, but I wonder if it would have looked more realistic to drop it off completely as you got higher. For some reason it just doesn't look right to me to have the dark tan mottling going all the way to the top. The texture on the vig under your new character is really cool though, some day I'll get enough 1x1s to try it out... Looking forward to seeing your adventures in Eslandola!
  11. Chapter IChapter IIChapter IIIChapter IVChapter V Chapter VI Chapter VII Chapter VIII Chapter IX Chapter X Chapter XI Chapter XII Chapter XIII Chapter XIV Chapter XV Chapter XVI Chapter XVII (you are here) Chapter XVIII After 10 months of paperwork and 10 days of rowing in the bay, the regretful conclusion was officially arrived at: Commodore Edward Argentum, Lost at Sea. In his honor, royalist Eslandians (all four of them) gathered in the capital to burn the Corry flag and wave nightcaps (the official symbol of King Fernando). So this was mostly a fun excuse to use that wild red plume and to show off my nightcaps. I couldn't find a happy medium between building a whole town square and this, so after letting it gather a few weeks of dust I took pictures of it. The next vignette will make up for it. Thanks for looking, hope you're enjoying the Captain's continued adventures...
  12. Great job shaping the silhouette! A really cool idea for a BoBS build.
  13. Really nice build here, lots of interesting buildings, the green and black is a great combination and the yellow round base for the crane is super neat! The ships are neat too, but like caiman0637 said, the birds are really the star of the show--so many different poses but all and such a good use of little pieces!
  14. The lighting in the new build is if possible even better than the lighting in the first one! The layout of the blocks of stone is really cool too. Looking forward to seeing what you've got up your sleeve next!
  15. Well, I definitely think of myself as an amateur when it comes to lighting and you as far above me, but for what it's worth, daylight might be good to soften the magical light, and I would also try a smaller field of focus, ideally just the shrine and the druid, not the peripheral trees and rock (that could be a postprocess blur though). For color instead of the black, I would think about the yellow light being maybe the reflection of the setting sun? So maybe a pale reddish blue? The only thing about daylight is it might soften the other lights too much. You know better than I do how feasible my idea is. The other thing is, try a "normal" lit shot, and then one like this, with the bright magic glare, both from the exact same angle, and then layer them in Photoshop or GIMP and erase the spots where you want the other one to show through. What is really bothering me is the glare on the far rocks in the back--it's messing with what otherwise could be some good forced perspective.
  16. This is really awesome--impressive rockwork, lovely trees, beautiful waterfall (the yellow behind it is gorgeous) and great minifigure pose. Also, I have to point out the "beach" landscaping, dark tan and olive was a great call, rather than going straight rocks to the water's edge everywhere. I don't want to detract from my praise by my criticism, so if I sound negative here, go re-read the praise--it's truly a fantastic build! But there's something that feels unnatural to me about the presentation. The lighting is so harsh, and so white. It glares too much off the rock, I think, and definitely glares too much off the trees... trees shouldn't glare. And also, I wish there were more peripheral blur. And what time of day is this? Why is the sky black? The overall feeling I get is not nighttime, but that's sending mixed signals. I see that the light is coming magically from inside the circle, and that makes good sense, but I wish it were more contained. By glaring off the circle rocks and the far rocks behind, it makes them hard to distinguish from each other. The MOC itself is really cool... and the fact that there is some unique lighting is also cool... I just wish it looked a little more... real, for lack of a better word.
  17. Love the way the round towers look! The olive vegetation with bright flowers is an interesting combination. I'm gonna have to think about how I like it.
  18. I'm going to have to try this scatter technique--first the water, now leaves, and it looks so good! I love the dark green under the foliage. The birds necks seem a little... straight... but the rest of the bird design is really nice!
  19. The vines crawling around the tree trunks look really good! I have mixed feelings about the studded edge... feels kind of bare, and I think the whole MOC would have popped more against a cooler background - but you've definitely got the overgrown jungle feel!
  20. A great ship, nice touch to use a mix of white and tan on the sails and I'm loving this water technique!
  21. A lovely tower, lovely autumnal trees, and a goat... what more could a MOC offer? Seriously, the yellow on the ground with the olive stalks, and the combination of white and dark grey for the tree trunks are both unique, smart choices that make the whole creation very pleasant to look at.
  22. The lighting here is super cool, I really like the way the lattice looks with the blue behind it. Great job on the pillars too, I like the diagonal patterns. And the whole thing is so huge compared to the microfigures!! Looks like it would be absolutely breathtaking to sail by!
  23. As I said on Flickr, I really like the shape of this tower! Something about the hexagon is so pleasing and the smooth way each angle meets is great. I also love the bright yellow on the foliage outside the wall!
  24. Thanks! Yep, the knight got himself in over his head and now had better catch that pig or I imagine there's an enraged farmer's wife ready to take him to task! You got it, the frogs are supposed to be yellow and red peppers. I saw it somewhere else, but I was trying to look for the MOC to link to it and I couldn't find it! Thanks The Stad! Glad you enjoyed the details.
  25. Thank you! You definitely have a point. I considered making it a "permanent" stall but just wasn't able to visualize that to my satisfaction... I think I was afraid of losing too much in a dark inside. As soon as you mentioned it, yes, the door looks quite ridiculous. I'll have to work on doing a better job proportioning my medieval houses in future. Thank you though, I really appreciate the thoughtful criticism! Thanks socialbricks! Was fun to browse my head collection for laughing faces. haha, very funny Henjin! Did you notice there's not a single tree in this build? No bark getting stuck to my red tights anytime soon, thank you very much... Thank you! I think I will be using that road sign technique again a time or two... Thank you so much!
