  1. I used a floating cobblestone technique for that--in other words, they're actually not attached. This way I could break out of the stud grid. The variation is very small, but really helps the look. I got the technique from @soccerkid6 originally. You can see my way of doing it pretty well in this time lapse video. That's kind of my latest variant, but I've done it several times with different depth. Here for instance, it's a plate deeper, so that I could introduce sideways double cheese. And here, there's no depth at all, just a single layer of loose tiles. Anyway, hope that helps. Glad you liked the way it looks!
  2. That sounds good! Looking forward to seeing what you build for it!
  3. In a peaceful little village of Historica, a knight comes looking for a romantic adventure... but the adventure he found was a little more down to earth than he'd expected! I seem to be on a kick of building Tudor houses... these two were so much fun, especially the one with the blue roof. It was small enough that I could work on getting every little part just right! Had some thoughts of making the second smaller house totally different colors, but it looked too unnatural, so I just went for a different roof and a studs-up wall construction instead. Then there are those nougat sacks, which were too good not to include, even if they don't attach to anything... Once again, this is not a GoH build per se - I built it for other reasons, but it definitely felt good to come back to my castle roots--though it looks more Avalonian than Kaliphlinian, I think! I took a whole lot more pictures of this build, including some of the inside techniques, which you can see on my blog if you're interested! C&C welcome too, as always! Edit: This made it into the voting phase of a LEGO Ideas contest--go check out the entries and vote for your favorite!
  4. I really like these minifigures, very cool combos. I suppose I've probably seen them before, but they're still cool. Also neat use of clips in the water. One photography tip - if you're shooting a brick wall straight on, it can really help to put a piece of paper or cloth or something right up against it, keeps light from shining through. I almost always do this for full-LEGO scenes, since I don't have to worry about cloth showing around the edges on a scene. For instance here, just bunched up a black t-shirt or something behind the rocks.
  5. Cool to see a larger castle build from you again, really nice job on the texture here and I also love the little window section in brown sticking out! Also love the flag design, simple but the perfect wave.
  6. Yes, I can't wait to see those turn up in some medieval MOCs! There are surely lions in Kali, and even crocs in the swampy parts!
  7. Wonderful minifigure posing and some great low angle shots. The light blue background works super well. Also nice to see old Historica lore being revisited!
  8. There's something very nice about this wall design... the row of 1x2 brown tiles is really good. Somehow it looks very real, I could totally imagine myself in this room. Also a neat table design and map collection!
  9. You do such a consistently lovely job with these builds of everyday life! Love the colors here, the little bit of vegetation, the minifigure activity - and hey, a square border from you! Altogether a really nice build.
  10. Those legs make really nice window slits... to start admiring this massive beauty by commenting on the first tiny detail that caught my eye! Lovely work, and it looks so good with the other buildings!
  11. Lavender rocks hey? Looks good. Effective use of sideways building. The olive and dark brown combination is a really good one. I'm a little creeped out by the way the left back corner of the build just disappears though.
  12. I really like the mottled colors you've got on these walls! Great combo. The dark brown also looks good, didn't even know those arches existed in dark brown! I agree that the roof looks funny, I can't figure out what real life material it's made out of. It was a good call to tie in the olive on the ground with more moss on the roof though.
  13. Okay, the lime is definitely too much for me. But I seem to be in the minority. Love the spice bushes and the shape of that tree!
  14. I really like the way the wall angles in and out right around the entry way. The whole MOC is very Lotii in style, with the cherry tree and the bamboo stalks. Great work!
  15. Ooh, this is a really nice take on the loose slope technique! I want to try it. I love how bright and summer/autumn like your MOCs often look. Also, nice collection of 'shrooms.
  16. So much interior detail here, I also love the quirky layout! The aviary is really cute, also really like the living quarters and various shops. A vibrant block of the capital, indeed!
  17. I love the way the hovercraft border looks! And a beautiful file of soldiers--that is funny that you ran out of backpacks, of all things.
  18. I quite like the green with white flowers, very festive atmosphere!
  19. Wow thank you! I really appreciate your thoughtful comments. The water is actually 1x2 tiles, staggered between rows... I wish I had that many 1x1s! Scrolling back up, it does have a significantly pixelated look though. A layer of trans light blue plates would do away with that I'm sure, but I don't have enough for that purpose. I may try trans clear between light blue and the base colors next time. I hear you on the weirdness of having windows! It was definitely a whimsical choice. I tried white panes very briefly but (besides not having enough) didn't think the huge chunks of solid color fit with the rest of the vibe. Aesthetics over realism! Again thank you! After putting a lot of thought into a MOC, it's a joy to find someone enjoying it thoughtfully like that! Indeed--though I've done it so much, that some small part of me is always dissatisfied until a MOC is back in it's proper parts and places. Thank you!
  20. What a neat use of the new book cover tile! The combination of dark red and dark green leaves looks brilliant too, and a really neat trunk technique!
  21. Thank you! Yes, there is only one minifigure in this creation. There really wasn't a good place for other figures to stand, and besides I wasn't sure I could do a good job finding soldiers to fit with the general theme! That's a great idea. I wish I would have thought of it, I would definitely have tried it out! Thanks Capt Wolf! Japanese castles are very cool and I was glad that the war took a turn which let me go in that direction! Thanks Maxim! Yes, I purposefully stopped posting WIPs once I got to the tower, I thought it would be a fun surprise! Thanks Fraunces! Thanks! Yeah, quite a few angles going in different directions here, but with the water and smooth rocks they were fairly easy to integrate! Thank you! Sadly, I didn't have room for it and it's back in the part containers already.
  22. Another build! Time to get back to Captain A now, I think.
  23. Salida Este is a fortunate place... it's got yet another fort. In fact, that was not where I initially planned on putting this fort, but it turned out rather Asian and seemed to fit there best. I have a lot of window panes, but not quite enough for this size of a creation, and it turned out neither of my brothers have a single one... so I had to make do with a combination of stickers, cheese slopes, and transparent bricks. It was really fun to experiment with some pink and purple colors for this creation. The lavender was inspired by one of @evancelt's builds. Definitely going to be including more trees with pink flowers in future creations! This build got pretty tall! From this high angle you can get a feel for how I did the water, mostly blue, lime, and dark green plates under there. If you're interested in the building process, there's a build log on my blog and here's a time lapse video too! C&C welcome as always, I hope you enjoyed the MOC!
