  1. Wow! Don't know where to start praising this magnificent build The overall shape is very well done, the sails look excellent (great work on that shield) and the water is among the best I've seen! I also like a lot how you've incorporated the fire tube in the front. Good to know that the shipwrights of Barqa are producing such excellent ships
  2. Great to see another solid ZC build, awesome floor design and many nice details! Can't wait to see what you've built with Torgar
  3. Very nice build, probably the best one from you I've seen! I like how the buildings are leaning against the mighty wall behind them, and the minifig posing is also well done UoP +1 for the claims, as I seem to recall that elaborate framing of window pieces have been accepted before.
  4. Innovative design! This is a great example that working with the bricks available may spawn new ideas
  5. Congratulations to the winners!
  6. I really like those Drow minifigs! The tunnel generally looks very good as well, but I think the leftmost part could have used another layer or two of bricks between the roof of the tunnel and the ground surface, it looks a bit thin now.
  7. Very nice build and a promising story! My favourite part is probably the library level, not least because of the wonderful closeup photo there Keep up the good work!
  8. Very nice base and tree, I really like that color mix A clever detail with the lidless chest for the horse as well, never thought of that! I agree with Gabe however that the ground could have used some more detailing and with the comments that the photography has some room for improvement. I've actually almost stopped editing out the background, with a smooth background (I use white/gray Ikea roller curtains) and good lighting it's not really needed and saves a ton of time
  9. Thanks to the latest bunch of credits you've approved I've now completed the degree of Bachelor of Architecture. Together with my previous degrees Bachelor of Anthropology and Bachelor of Landscape Design this now enables me to claim the degree Master (if you want to review my credits for this, please check my tracking thread entry). Half way to the doctorate now...
  10. Lovely trees and minifigs, I especially like the use of the Lady Liberty head for that female orc Which torso have you used there?
  11. Thanks! I had the idea of the fire breathing wagon for a while, but couldn't make a pumping mechanism fit in nicely on top of the wagon along with the barrels...but then I found some pictures of fire engines with those kind of side handles for several men to use (which made the engineer in me very happy ) Thanks! Well, it's up to your forces to stay away from them So much to build, so little time...
  12. Excellent rockwork and amazing minifig posing! You are really making a great contribution to Nocturnus, keep it up!
  13. Very nice entry, I really like those Drueggar and that massive tree! I can't resist smiling a bit when seeing those Swedish-inspired elven names as well Regarding the pictures, I'm not sure however if these pictures are ok as challenge entries because of the following rule: I also think that these pictures are not as sharp as they could be, maybe take some new pictures?
  14. Very nice house! I like how it sits "in the shadow of the wall" UoP +1 for city scene and life in Avalonia.
  15. I'm attending with my family, and I've registered to display one of my planned Challenge 2 builds. Now all that remains is to actually do the build and make it transportable between my shirts and socks when traveling over the pond I hope that we can arrange some kind of GoH member gathering quite early (Thursday?) as I'm really looking forward to meeting some of you in person!
  16. Great to hear that my LDD build gets an ABS incarnation! I hope that means that it is easy enough then for Ska to at least field one or two of these in the upcoming battle
  17. Thanks! Another suggestion for making it better in real bricks would be to use black rigid hoses instead of the two black bars on each side so that the pumping mechanism doesn't separate in a front and a rear part..
  18. Welcome Odidoma! Great to finally see you here in GoH! Not that it's my business, but it seems like the Avalonian map needs updating with all the new claims which already may overlap a bit?
  19. Thanks! I based it on how some old manual fire wagons are operated
  20. Welcome to Kaliphlin! Very nice intro build, and excellent lighting and photography! I really like that "Indiana Jones look" of those interior shots
  21. Welcome to Kaliphlin Kashifa! May your treasure hunts continue to be prosperous! The merchants of Barqa will gladly buy interesting finds that you don't know the value of Welcome to Kaliphlin Illarix! Looking forward to seeing more of the Rakath mountains
  22. Finished a LDD build for the WotB field piece mini-challenge: I don't know if something like the historical Greek Fire has been used in GoH, but I took the liberty of introducing the corresponding Barqan Fire which seems to me to be a logic military usage of the Kaliphlin black oil I've also put together some troops for the call to arms, but I have to take pictures of them some day.
  23. Here is my field piece: Description and suggestions for rules in my entry thread. I have also attached the LDD file there.
  24. Field Piece - Barqan Fire Wagon While the black oil of Kaliphlin are widely used for such peaceful tasks as lighting and heating, a more fearsome use is what is widely known as Barqan Fire (similar to historical Greek Fire). This is a kind of refined naphtha which has excellent properties for being pumped out of a nozzle, yet tends to stick to where it is poured. Barqan Fire is often used by Kaliphlin naval vessels to ignite enemy vessels. Not as common but sometimes seen are field artillery pieces (essentially shipboard weapons put on wagons) capable of spewing the Barqan Fire on the enemy. Not very easy to maneuver on the battlefield, but when positioned correctly these weapons can wreak havoc on tightly packed ranks of enemies. Operating these weapons is highly dangerous, so these wagons are always only manned by volunteers. Always. This weapon may be fielded by either side. Suggestion for game rules applying to the fire wagon (the numbers can of course be changed at will for balance purposes): Range somewhere between (30-50 studs) depending on how many soldiers are pumping (2 soldiers = 30 studs, 4 soldiers = 40 studs, 6 soldiers = 50 studs) Fire in the area hit by the stream will burn for a while and has a high probability of igniting other combustible materials. A soldier hit by the stream will burst into flames (I leave it to the game masters to decide damage effects and mechanics) Enough fuel for 10 long bursts (can be divided into more short bursts). Needs a soldier with a pilot torch lighting the stream of oil (no built-in pilot light). Needs a soldier directing the fire stream (can be the same as for rule 5) Minimum crew 3 soldiers: Two pumping, one directing the fire/lighting the fire stream (see rules 1, 5 and 6). There is a 5 % probability of the igniting soldier getting sprayed by the naphtha and burst into flames himself (effects according to rule 3). Probability increased to 20 % if the igniting soldier is also responsible of directing the flow of the fire. The naphtha will spill if the wagon is by a large projectile (not just an arrow) strong enough to break a barrel or directly hit by a weapon (the stronger the weapon and wielder, the higher the probability of breaking a barrel). The size of the spill will be determined by the damage by the projectile and the amount of fuel left. Each time the wagon fires (regardless of length of the burst), there is a 10 % chance of a small spill in a random direction from a leak somewhere in the pump system. See rule 11 if that spill is connected to fire. If the pilot torch or some other source of fire is within the spill area (or comes within the spill area before the vehicle can be moved away), the whole vehicle will burst into an explosive fire killing anyone within 16 studs radius and randomly torching everyone in the area outside those 16 studs for another 16 studs with falling probability up to zero at 32 studs radius. If hit by a fire projectile, explosion is immediate if that projectile is also strong enough to cause a spill regardless of the fire. If it is a weak fire projectile (like an arrow) the crew has a 50 % chance of extinguishing the fire caused by the projectile before the wagon explodes (provided there is no previous spill) Notes on the LDD build: In real bricks, the fire would be best to build with flame pieces connected with the small pegs (not a LDD legal technique it seems however) The round bricks of the directing hose may be put on a rigid 3 mm hose to give some ability to direct the fire stream. Any parts of the wooden carriage may be replaced with other parts in reddish brown/black colors to match available pieces. One or two horses may be connected at the back of the wagon to pull it longer distances. (the LDD horses without any printing were too ugly to use). Otherwise it is pulled by the soldiers manning it. I had planned putting a Barqan fire thrower on a GNAR ship, but I won’t have time to build a ship for GNAR so it ended up being a field artillery piece instead. fire wagon.lxf
