Very nice build and Kaliphlin minfigs I too would advice you to put something behind the build as previous comments already have stated. Other than that, I think your lighting of the build is quite good and definitely better than if you were inside or using a flash As there is plenty of light outside also on a cloudy day, it might be possible to eliminate the shadows in the build even more if you did the photography entirely in the shadow.

Very nice comback Etzel! I like the mix of Viking and medieval styles of that ship and the minifig combos you've made What is that hat piece the captain is wearing btw?

I will bring Nordana Castle to Skaerbaek as part of the Swebrick medieval landscape, and I'm thinking of also not dismantling my Swamplands Tower and Mitgardian Trade before that to have something to show from the other guilds as well For Kaliphlin I must build something grander than those 32x32 MOCs of course. My Sultan's Gate main gate would have been nice to bring if it was built for display and not just for photography from 2 sides...but I would rather build something new than put a lot of effort and bricks in adapting that for display. Right now I'm really eager to build a part of Barqa, inspired by Kabel's nice modular city and there's also the possibility of building some other parts of Sultan's Gate Sadly, I will probably not be able to bring any MOCs to Brickworld Chicago...I will need all weight allowance I have for bringing bricks (and well, probably some other stuff much cheaper over there) back to Europe... Anyway, I'm really looking forward to meeting some of you GoH members!

Wow! That's a lot of interest in the event I'm glad I got informed yesterday by a Swebrick friend that the Fan Weekend signup was open as I was travelling and had not checked the forum... 2014 seems to be the year for AFOL events for me btw, as I just signed up for Brickworld Chicago in June as well Right now I'm trying to figure out how much of the workshops on Thursday and the presentations on Friday we should attend or if we should spend those days seeing more of Chicago instead (arriving there on the Wednesday)? -
Excellent build with many nice details and parts usage! Congratulations to the frontpaging as well

Nice to see you here Etzel! Since I wasn't around in the early days of GoH I can't really say welcome back, but what I definitely can say is that you have a very innovative sigfig and that I'm looking forward a lot to seeing new GoH builds from you! -
Nice interior details, UoP +1 for that However, I think the lighting is a bit too sharp for an interior scene.

Thanks robuko and Mike S! It's GoH I have to thank 100 % for having pushed me into developing my building skills. This was my best build before joining GoH, not that I should attempt to grade my own skills but I think I've picked up a think or three here -
Brethren of the Brick Seas?
Gideon replied to Admiral Croissant's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I think that we should not consider the number of participants as a static amount to be shared between GoH, LCC and other "massive multi-builder online roleplaying games". Instead I think that the more this scene grows, the more builders will give it a try and as ZC demonstrates develop their skills in building and "playing" in this way. Of course some core people might be "lost" to the other worlds but new people who are coming in might very well step up to be vital parts of the core GoH membership for years to come. The idea of a joint GoH-pirate world is not very appealing if you ask me, as GoH would be forced way out of the medieval/high fantasy setting that has been so successful so far and has an almost infinite amount of untapped potential still. So my opinion is that there's definitely room for a pirate world alongside GoH, and I don't see a problem with coordinating in the way that the major challenges don't finish at the same time (maybe also coordinate with SoNE?). There's usually a few months of lower activity in GoH after a big challenge anyway, and if there should be a pirate challenge run then in the meantime I don't see that it would be that bad if some of the top contributors to GoH were to switch over there for a couple of months before the next challenge. We who only build in GoH can keep busy free-building or with mini-challenges in the meantime (or be encouraged to try new building styles ). There really should be a word for what we are doing btw, "brick semi-freeform RPG" is the closest description I can come up with. There must be a better term? -

Well, the eastern side of the Rakath mountains must be filled with rivers and possibly lakes? I've heard that there's a fair bit of snow falling on the Rakath mountains, and sadly much of that wonderful water so rare in most of Kaliphlin flows directly into the eastern sea... That's a region which is generally less detailed, so putting a few rivers and lakes in the foothills between the mountains and the sea would fit in perfectly -

I got my interpretation of the main gate finished in time also: I tried to keep it roughly the same size as Robuko's other side of the gate, and I added a small Western hint as well -
Located on top of the Great Escarpment in Kaliphlin, the town of Sultan's Gate guards the only scalable path up on top of the Escarpment for many miles. It's main gate is a formidable fortress, with arrow slits in all directions and murder holes on top of the gate where stones and boiling oil can be poured onto anyone who's managed to drag a battering ram all the way up onto the Escarpment. Inside the gatehouse, all traders have to pay toll for their wares. The old wall has crumbled in some parts, but has recently been repaired. The stonemasons making the repairs were not as thorough as the masons of old however, so the new section of the wall is not perfectly flat. The old door from the gatehouse has had to be walled up, since it was leading out into the air nowadays. Together with the town module (more pictures here): The orcs living at the foot of the Great Escarpment are strong porters, and a lot of the trade is carried out by them. The orc inside the gatehouse has stopped on his way up to pay the tolls for his goods. Lead roofing is used to keep out the scarce but heavy rains this part of Kaliphlin experiences. I'd like to claim the following UoP credits for this build: Roofing [architecture] (3/3, for the flat tower roofs with the tiled roofs in the middle) Caravan / shipping by land [trade and law] I had planned to put this on top of a cliff, symbolizing the upper part of the Great Escarpment. Hopefully I'll be able to finish the build in this manner sometime before I need the tan bricks again.

Thanks! Usually it's enough to give feedback in the MOC threads (if there is one) however, thanks for the credits Even if some guilds think the post count is everything, sometimes MOC feedback has a tendency to clutter the main threads. -
Thanks guys! What do you think of my new backdrop btw? Like the old white one it's a roller curtain from Ikea (Tupplur), very practical! It was harder to get the colors right but I think I got rid of a lot of the reflections that plagued all shots with the white one, and for that matter when I was still using white bed linen...

Located on top of the Great Escarpment in Kaliphlin, the town of Sultan's Gate guards the only scalable path up on top of the Escarpment for many miles. Within the safety of the walls of Sultan's Gate, space is precious enough that most houses are built with at least two or three stories. This section of wall is built upon the old walls of the great ancient city built in the times of the Sultan. The gatehouse The old wall has crumbled in some parts, but has recently been repaired. The stonemasons making the repairs were not as thorough as the masons of old however, so the new section of the wall is not perfectly flat. The old door from the gatehouse has had to be walled up, since it was leading out into the air nowadays. This section of the wall is facing the Great Escarpment, and a father and his son are spending the afternoon caravan spotting from the roof of their house.
