  1. Very nice boat Your water technique is quite excellent, and the photography is top notch which I'm always happy to see! You have made great progress in that aspect I will gladly +1 your UoP credit claims for waves and minifig posing. However, I think the flowing water category should depict a stream/river or something like that.
  2. Thanks! Thanks! That made enough for approval of the other credits I think I will retract the siege claim and do something else for that, maybe a siege weapon in Ska's LDD challenge would be suitable?
  3. Thanks! As this is a bit pulled out of context, I agree that it is a bit of a stretch to call this a siege...it could as well be just a surprise storming of a city. When I built this I wanted to do something different than the "attacking troops and a siege engine" which several builders already had produced. Thanks all of you! The LDD look probably comes from that I'm using flash for my photographs and is actually something I'm trying to get away from But compared to shooting with not enough natural light as the alternative would be I still think this is a good way. And the best thing is that it allows me to shoot at night when the rest of the family is asleep and lets me focus on the photography work. Great idea with the half-stud offset, I wish I had thought of that! My main aim was to not have the front shot show the legs... I think stairs that are 2 plates high per step look the most realistic, and 3 studs wide seems to me a reasonable width for this kind of stair. 2 studs would be way to narrow and 4 studs wide looks a bit too wide for a stair that is supposed to be easily defended by one man. Thanks! Thanks! The wall was an excuse for putting this house in a build I would have liked to make a more detailed wall and especially a more detailed gatehouse, but with the few hours I had to work with this was what I ended up with. Thanks! I'm quite happy as well with how the house turned out...I will probably keep it for a while after the rest of the MOC has been sorted. The first vignette is supposed to show a cross-section of the wall (same wall as the larger build), hence the color differences between the stone facing and the core of the wall which is composed of bricks, mortar and various unpolished stones. Thanks!
  4. Feels like I'm echoing previous posts: Hersir of Archers: Wat Tambor Hersir of Infantry: Gunman Hersir of Cavalry: Garmadon
  5. I went for yellow for most figures as I had far more yellow heads when i joined GoH. If I were to dismantle all my LotR and Hobbit figures I suppose I would have enough fleshies nowadays as well however. In my interpretation of GoH humans are yellow and elves flesh, since most of my elf hairs are LotR/Hobbit with flesh ears. My sigfig is a half-elf so he is yellow with elf ears (CMF elf hairpiece)
  6. I can't help wondering how they keep those tunnels free from water?`The Drow undoubtedly have some dark magic that can keep the water out of their tunnels as it would be a problem also deep underground under the mainland below the groundwater level. (A bad habit from a physicist/engineer to start thinking about such things....fortunately the fantasy setting allows for "easy" explanations sometimes )
  7. Great news, looking forward to seeing that live in Skaerbaek! (And of course meeting it's builders as well!)
  8. Excellent build, all those curved white slopes give the snow a realistic look! There is a lot of snow in the Rakath Mountains in Kaliphlin as well
  9. And now the advertisement campaign from various members promoting their guild starts
  10. As I said on Flickr, excellent addition of that real smoke...I first thought it was a Photoshop effect! This is quintessentially Nocturnian if you ask me.
  11. Amazing build! My favorite parts are the wooden section to the left and the nice details such as that ball inside the claws The dragon also looks lovely (if such a word can be used here )
  12. Sorry for my inactivity in GoH lately, I've been busy with real life (including some travelling) and what little brick time I've had the last month has ended up in the challenges over at Lands of Roawia... As I joined the "desert faction" over there as well, I try however to make builds which can either directly be used as Kaliphlin builds or with lighter modifications. Here are a couple of builds showing how Kaliphlin troops are trying to break a siege of an Avalonian town held by Drow loyalists by sneaking in through the sewers and opening the gate... I finally got to use the Tudor house that did not make the final cut of my Nordana Castle. I'd like to claim some UoP credits for this as well: Military Science: Siege Architecture: Half-timbered Tudor style Architecture: Roof rakes Agriculture and Zoology: Raising livestock
  13. Welcome to the AFOL world and GoH in particular! As an important goal with GoH is to improve our building skills, if you are ready to receive some constructive criticism of your builds and their presentation this is probably the best place to be Many of the builders here have improved tremendously during their time in GoH (myself included). So to join you just create a sigfig (signature figure) and post it along with some backstory of the figure in the main thread of the guild you want to join. As to which guild you want to join I would suggest a new builder to choose guild based on your collection and the style you want to build in.
  14. I like how that castle is growing and how you're showing your skills working with the limited amount of parts a "retail" set has to have. Keep it up! (I suppose that using a lot of plates like that is parts budget well spent to give the Trebuchet some extra range? )
  15. I'd like to claim the following credits for my Opening the Gates build: Military Science: Siege Architecture: Half-timbered Tudor style Architecture: Roof rakes Agriculture and Zoology: Raising livestock On another UoP note I've got a ton of threads to read and comment. I'll try to give some UoP acknowledgements and feedback as I go through those. Edit: All these credits approved (except for the retracted Siege claim), thank you!
  16. Many Avalonian towns have fallen to the Drow or forces loyal to them. Here, a town held by Drow loyalists is under siege by Kaliphlin troops. The Drow have secured vast supplies of food (including live animals and forage of them) to be able to withstand the siege until reinforcements arrive. The town is however about to be stormed in the middle of the night when a small force sneaks in through the sewers to overwhelm the guards at the gate. (You have to imagine that this is seen in faint moonlight ) Meanwhile, a force of soldiers from Barqa have sneaked up to the wall under the cover of darkness and are nervously waiting if they will remain undiscovered by the guards on the wall until the gate opens... University of Petraea credits claimed: Military Science: Siege Architecture: Half-timbered Tudor style Architecture: Roof rakes Agriculture and Zoology: Raising livestock (I noticed too late that the minifig posing turned out slightly less good on the Kaliphlin version of this last picture, click the picture to see the original version where I think the officer looked better) I made these builds for LoR (one max 8x8 vig and one unrestricted build), but now I've taken some additional pictures without the Loreesi colors and swapped the arms of the officer so that the builds should fit well as freebuilds in the GoH context. (I thought that an explanation was in order if someone is puzzled by not getting to the exact same pictures when clicking the Flickr links as I didn't want do dilute my photostream with too many duplicate pictures of essentially the same build ).
  17. Great with another "Swede" in GoH! Have you also joined the Swedish LUG Swebrick?
  18. Kaliphlin has dark blue as one of our guild colors. I don't see a problem using "regular blue" in Kaliphlin uniforms, especially if used together with red, as there surely would be local variations in how the Kaliphlin blue is produced. I've btw used neo-falcon shields in a Kaliphlin mercenary band so the heraldry is also not unheard of there. I recall that I've also seen some excellent black falcon based troops in Nocturnus
  19. The roof design is what caught my eyes here, well done!
  20. Nice landscaping and Drow force UoP +1 for studs up cliffs.
  21. Nice wall technique! Does it look equally good on the sides? UoP +1 for wooden walls.
  22. Nice scene, I like the trick of leaving the goriest part to the viewer's imagination The snow landscaping is quite excellent as well! UoP +1 for both the "snow and ice" and the "minifig posing" claims.
  23. Great rockwork in the first build! Of course I like the second one more however Your interpretation of the barracks of Barqa (@Garmadon: I suspect I have to take the blame for those green shutters) and also your interpretation of my sigfig are really nice. I have to pick up one of those Shakespeare minifigs, and I'm impressed you've actually made Sir Gideon smile! (Which head piece is that?) Welcome to Barqa, Elijah! Your training here will be hard, but you and your father can be sure that the weapon and archery training you will receive are among the finest you can get anywhere in Kaliphlin or Historica. You will also benefit from teaching from the finest scholars at the College of Barqa
  24. Wow! Probably the best Eastern ship I've seen in Lego The overall shape is lovely and the amount of details suitably represents the wealth of Kaliphlin. The water is top notch as well. UoP +1.
  25. Very good description and great work getting so much details into that limited footprint
