  1. Sweet! I used the same linkage in my wind-up crab:)
  2. Lot's of progress! Looks hot, though I think it's lower than the original.
  3. Nice, but what's with the adhesive tape? Is it even allowed? How about using rubber rinds instead?
  4. Yup, it would be pretty much impossible to forget one of the builders who inspired me to get into Lego.
  5. Awesome model! It's good to see here one of my favorite builders.
  6. Making the mount strong is not that hard, just focus on vertical strength, then you can simply fix the angle with a single liftarm. But what you have so far is not a bad start at all, if you sacrifice 1 unit of ground clearance, you can reinforce what you already have by an 5L vertically placed beam. However, lifting the model is a whole different story. I have a very similar setup (without the angle) and the shorter 2L-wide pistons aren't able to lift the model. My situation is similar since in retracted state, the outriggers shouldn't stick out of the sides of the model. This means that the outrigger has to travel a lot to reach the ground, which means much smaller average force the outriggers can make. With a nifty linkage you can make the outrigger move faster near the retracted state and slow down when it's near the ground, but I can't see a way to integrate it into the model, and I think you will loose authentic look because of the cylinders would be placed in a weird way. But maybe someone who's better at linkages will have an idea, I will keep my eyes on this thread.
  7. Thank you for including the Simple Supercar in the HoF! The Compact Excavator, Avtoros Shaman and the Simple supercar has instructions.
  8. I'm shocked how fast some people can build... Awesome start so far. As for originality: For this contestl I prefer less original models. I want to see many common machinery.
  9. The face is very characteristic! It's going to be awesome.
  10. You went too far by joining the groups too early. I'm very happy that you want to build the model so impatiently, but you are making me (and maybe others) feel that the model is a mess. @Andy D: I'm not sure by now. I thought the build is straightforward enough with the groups too. The Ldraw file is more than less stepped, so it should be straightforward.
  11. Those errors you are having are very strange, since LDD doesn't let collisions to occur. That's actually an axle-pin there in that particular place. Is it possible that during instruction generation, LDD screws things up? And it's also clear that you are not following my advice about building the groups as they are , and after that joining them with the other parts. Anyway, I uploaded the current Ldraw file and the (hopefully perfectly) corresponding LDD file. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/szecs/telehandler/renders/telehandler_01.mpd http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/szecs/telehandler/renders/ver_2016_final_005_exp.lxf
  12. Yes, the pdf version will have some small modifications for easier building. These won't affect the look and function of the completed model. But because I build something for the pneumatic contest, don't know when I'll have time. I have the digital file with all parts and most of it is already stepped, so maybe you would be interested in the ldraw file too?
  13. Your skills are improving very quickly. In a blink of an eye you'll become the Arvo brothers of Technic.
  14. Sorry, I only build models that look good in real life too. And I don't like those toyish "compact" machinery... I think I can squeeze everything in. Maybe I'll have to sacrifice some stuff (like the suspension, joystick, sideways movement of the excavator). But if TLG managed to fit everything into 8455, I think I'll be okay with a bigger model.
  15. Just Unimog tyres. The problem with Claas tyres is that there's no proper scale bucket for the excavator, as far as I know, and even the long cylinders would be somewhat off-scale. And the front bucket is a bit too "specific" (from the Volvo). And most importantly, too big and too expensive :) EDIT: Don't expect perfect linkages and movements as I'm not an expert in machinery and time is too short for deep research.
  16. Great progress. I'm building a backhoe for the contest, and actually for a pneumatic contest like this, obvious, straightforward themes are the best. I hope to see more common machinery in the contest. (I'm very curious if I can implement the small joystick controls in the cabin for the arm...)
  17. Do you have the latest version of LDD or updated the parts pallette? I donwloaded the file and have no errors. Maybe you could try to download it again, I did re-upload the file after some error fixing a few days after the initial upload. Also, I don't know how you will be able to build the model with the older 2L driving rings instead of the new 3L ones. I guess your best bet when working with LDD generated instructions is to save every group one by one to a separate file and generate instructions for those then assemble the main modules. The model is grouped pretty well, I built the final version with the final colors from the LDD file. LDD instructions generator is probably not taking groups into account.
  18. So when does Tamás get his "pro" tag? He has proven his scales in trial truck building, machinery building, small and big scale building, now supercar building. He is also regularly blogged on TLCB. He's the best Hungarian builder.
  19. Thanks for the replies! I said that the gearing to the extension needs to be fixed. The fix is this, but I couldn't test it yet. Obviously it will make boom extension rather slow, but I hope it will solve the load lifting weakness. I will put the model on rebrickable as soon as I finish and test the pdf instructions.
  20. You haven't read the replies carefully. The only reason I don't disassemble models immediately after finishing everything (video, instructions of some sort, etc) is that I can hardly ever afford to start another model immediately (I have no time). Plus I still hope that I can bring some of them to conventions. And that I find disassembling things as a boring, necessary evil thing. Maybe my models are too dense, but they don't take significantly more space than parts, and at least I don't need more parts storage equipment.
  21. I'm waiting for the Claas ;)

  23. That's awesome. Not only as a first MOC but as it is. I usually don't like studded mixed with studless, but this model balances the two very well.
  24. Why don't you just PM some builders for some sales numbers? And also check rebrickable for the "users who own this" numbers. I don't think there is orders of magnitude difference between those numbers and real sales. I think a few hundred sells is the most that the even the most popular builders make. For your plans for large crane: I think with large models you have less chance to sell numerous instructions or complete kits. I may be totally wrong, but money seems to be in regular brick building and building for companies that see Lego as a way of branding. Like Edwin with his ships building replicas in response to orders because companies think it looks good to put models of their products in the visitor areas. And most people and companies still doesn't see Technic as appealing as bricks builds (I guess one reason is that they and their visitors wouldn't play with the models anyway). Also, Edwin, as a side effect, sells SMALL ship kits to anyone.
  25. I meant this. If I want to switch careers, want to apply to a company, I have to ask these questions. Trying to compare yourself with your talking partner is bad in most ways anyway. Sorry for the off. The OP needs to know how much money some specific builders make. Maybe he should have just ask them in PM.
