@TheMindGarage: If you can't build identical wheel caps then don't build wheel caps. Simple as that. Lot of complains about this contest, but it still better then many contests I've seen so far with voting system instead of juries. Contests where bigger models with more functions had more chance regardless of the look and actual working of those functions. And don't complain that custom models didn't make it into the finals just because they were um.... custom. Making good looking custom cars is hard. Making custom cars that could be part of a brand is extremely hard, and no one succeeded with it it this contest. Tossing in two round tilted headlights and calling it Porsche won't do. My only complaint about this contest that it was in the middle of summer when people go on vacations but maybe it's just me that I'm not passionate enough to take my Lego's into the mountains or parents' place.

I had a chance to check out this model (not mine, I still haven't decided if I buy it), and the steering has quite a bit of slack, in the range of the full turning angle of the wheels (I was the most curious about this one, as my latest telehandler has the same steering feature, but my telehandler has less slack. Maybe It's time to lower the requirements I make for myself). Anyway, the model looks ad feels awesome and well built. -
It's been a long time I spent this much time with looking at the details of a Lego MOC. I usually don't like the mix of studded and studless pieces (and some of the building techniques used) but this model is a joy to look at. Maybe I'm a bit too overreacting, but all the exciting details, the mechanical features (the gear indicator at the dashboard for example) place this model (for me) into the ultimate hall of fame.

Generic Contest Discussion

I'm on holiday this September too! In the mountains... I guess the only hope for me to join another contest is to be unemployed... -
You could try a rack and pinion mechanism too: replace the pushrod (between the fan and the hand-operated lever) with a rack, and put a gear on the axle of the fan. Advantages: *no need to hand-start the fan *the fan can spin faster, and even you can make several gear-ratios by exhanging the gear at the fan *the ratcheting mechanism could easily be solved, but I'm not near my Legos at the time to try t. Maybe just a week rubber band that's pulling the rack against the gear would suffice. If the movement of the level pushes the rack in a line (no perpendicular motion of the rack's joint at the lever), the rack will rotate the gear when it's pushed, and will slide off the teeth when pulled.

Instructions Question
Lipko replied to Leonardo da Bricki's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yup, instructions making is about the same effort in time (at least for me) as the design itself. So that time could easily be spent on making another MOC. The reasons why I make instructions for free (okay, no one asked) is: *In workhours it's a huge task, but obviously much less complicated than designing. So it's almost a relief after the struggling with the design. To put it simply: even if the time consumtion is high, there's a chance that this time wouldn't be spent on designing, but on useless tasks like browsing forums and news portals *I don't find it justified to charge for my medicore work when there are so many masters out here (though I have to add that I've heard people saying that not every paid instructions/MOCs are high-quality enough to justify the price, even highly praised ones). -

I know that you are a purist, but charity is a good cause and needs more publicity. Your other auctions were also posted here, as far as I remember. -

Looks cool but I'm not sure about the sedan form. The front doors are too narrow, I think a coupé form would suit it better. The rear part is beautiful by the way. -

Maybe you should start your own thread about it and get it frontpaged, TLCblogged etc. -
Instructions Question
Lipko replied to Leonardo da Bricki's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Don't keep models. My annual budget is around 300 $ too. This means I can rarely have complete 2 models at once. The main reason is not money (I could afford to spend more) but limited space (renting a small flat with my girlfriend). I only bought one instruction during my AFOL years: for Crowkillers' Vampire GT. As others have said, there are many free instructions (I browsed most of them). Okay, this post may be irrelevant since maybe you are more of a collector type. Are you? Or do you want to learn from the instructions? -

It's in Hungarian shops since a week for 140-150€. For some reason Hungary got more into Lego recently, there are dozens of Lego shops in the capital city (actual shops, not counting pure web-shops) and the prices are pretty good too. And in the countryside too. A shop just opened in the village next to my home town which is in one of the most underdeveloped parts of the country. Maybe because there's a Lego factory in Hungary... but AFAIK only Duplo is being manufactured there. -

Wow. The more fine models like this come out the more I feel sorry that I miss out this contest. The automatic spoiler rising this is something I always wanted to implement. Awesome job!

Color Coding
Lipko replied to Richard Dower's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I, for one, prefer the simpler construction and like the color vomit. I guess I'm the only one in the world who does. If I want challenge, I design my own models. For making a stock model, I just want to have causal fun, maybe watch a movie while building and have some beer too. And having 20 same colored parts really doesn't help with that especially that we now have axles in odd lengths so axles would be impossible to tell apart by eye. And I don't want to measure every single axles, that's sure. The color vomit makes the chassis more exciting to me. I could name a few MOCs that have "proper" gray colors all around the chassis. They are so utterly boring to look at that I honestly don't care what functions it has at all. Color vomit adds another dimension in designing both from the look/feel and challenge point of view (boy, it's hard to come up with nicely color-vomited models...) -

I didn't want to sound negative. That's an absolutely positive thing if your skills are valued in the way that people trust you with their money/other way in advance, when you can't just cancel a project because things didn't go as planned. And self motivation, building for yourself is a good thing but building professionally is a different level. You became a real Lego professional and Master MOCer (in TLCB sense). It would be even better if there were no significant shortcomings and illegal/questionable techniques used, but that's a level beyond that I haven't seen yet (I mean being a pro/master with only legal and techniques). Maybe that's TLG designer level... -

For his Pentax, both suggestions are too big. I would say anything from Paul Boratko, though there are no free instructions for them. I guess the OP has already checked this thread: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=92099 -

There's a 3L thin lever attached to the 2x4 beam that's being slid by the hand operated lever. But maybe I'm missing something. -

Thank you for posting the LDD file! It seems that the steering works with the same small geometrical error, as my telehandler. It has a slight rear-wheel steering in normal mode too, and always in the same direction regardless the direction of the first axle. One thing is strange though: the rear cartridge that actuates rear steering and can set the steering mode seems to slide sideways (mode selection) with friction. BTW, in a Hungarias shop for a limited time and count, you could order it for 140 euros. -

Yup, building for LUG meeting is a good drive (and easier to explain to it to your spouse). Too bad the Hungarian LUG is kind of dead recently. AFAIK the last meeting was in 2014, not counting truck trial events.
