  1. After seeing the images, I love the color-vomit even more. The model does look awesome during the building stages.
  2. Most MOCers have constrains too. Two pretty big one for example: time and parts. Plus you don't get the point. I, for one, am not complaining about lack of functions. I'm complaining that one/more of the few functions have serious flaws. I would be more than happy with the features it has, if they would wortk. And even if an ambassador and the adult builders screwed up the building, that implies that the design is not very good. I wouldn't expect a better official model than MOCs, but I do expect a bloody reliable one. Okay, sorry for the angry comments from me, I'll try to refrain from commenting again.
  3. &BrunoJJ: There's a big difference between "leaving space for improvements" and making something a wrack so you HAVE TO improve it to make it work at all. For example, not including a complete gearbox only including a bunch of parts and gears. Or making the model much more modular, like 8448. Or only include instructions for the frame and the body, and include just an idea book about different gearboxes, suspensions, steering systems, etc. Dunno, something.
  4. Because it is unrealistic, but probably still playable in 4-wheel steering mode because of the short wheelbase.
  5. Lovely model! By the way, why don't you advertise yourself in your signature (youtube channel, or MOCpages, if you are there)? You build awesome stuff!
  6. As an engineer I do find it disappointing building a set (designed by professionals at the biggest construction toy company in the Solar System) that doesn't work out of the box. For 300 euros I get almost twice the parts and design a model from scratch. Hell. I, as a medicore nobody, cancelled models because something was a bit jamming. Yet, the biggest toy company wants to release a model which main selling feature (the gearbox) doesn't really work. But at least we know why they use the white clutch gear... Sorry, my English and communication skills suck. What I want to say is that the Porsche set is a product as a whole. Not just ideas, or parts, or a fancy book with a fancy box. It better work right or I will never ever by a flagship from Lego and never build their sets even if I buy them for part (because obviously I wouldn't give up on this hobby just because a crap set and a very strange business decision that may ruin the reputation among Technic AFOLs). Maybe I'm overreacting, still waiting for the reviews. Hopefully the reviewers will dare to tell all the issues (if they really there).
  7. So the model is not able to roll, even without the fake engine. Hmm.... Though it seems that on the techlug video, one of the axles is not secured (a 16 teeth gear). Maybe it's just my eyes...
  8. This is my opinion too. For me, a big point of Lego is reproducibility, so I do my best to use current and not rare parts in my MOCs, if anyone would built them. Even if actually no one would build them and if that means not using the best solutions.
  9. @Zux: Yup, you are missing something It's much more convenient to build with the 3L connector (no half offset anywhere). And my comment reflected to the idea that the smooth 3L connectors are unique to the Porsche set. And if so, how to circumvent this thing.
  10. new 3L connector + sand paper. Has anybody tried it?
  11. Supercars are supercars. In case of Lego "expert" models, pretty much Technic car with many features. A Model Team supercar wouldn't be considered as a supercar in Technic sense. Okay, made no sense.. Anyhoo, in my opinion a Lego Technic supercar obviously has to have features and has to be modeled after supercars in the supercar sense. Other car types are just cars (for example Sheepo's Land Rover is not a supercar, but his Bugatti is). In my opinion.
  12. Sorry to say, but that wrecker and the motor are butt-ugly imho.
  13. If the Porsche would stand alone in the Lego world, I would just buy it. The "problem" with your argument that there are many other awesome sets in the 2016 2h lineup to pick from. I can buy another set for 99.9% or building fun (of 100.1%, who can say that in advance?) but for much less money. All the small issues with the model decrease its value in my eyes, compared to the other sets in the lineup. Pretty much the only thing the Porsche offers the other models don't is the orange parts (and still too many parts will be missing from the palette).
  14. Sorry but no. I pay twice the amount of money than I would pay for its parts, then I expect that it just works acceptably out of the box. Why should I improve it, when I can design my own models? Taking the "mod it if you don't like it" argument to to extreme: Lego just would take some pictures of the model and say "reverse engineer it, fokkers!!!1" Seriously, this model is enormous. They designed a new part for the gearbox, designed a new, more realistic wheel hub, only to have a model that's virtually unplayable (no HOG, but actually doesn't matter since it doesn't really steer). But you don't push this Lego model with 50 km/h. Basically, with a Lego push-and-play car, you can mostly play parking. EDIT: and if it's a display only model, than there's totally no point making it Technic. I seriously feel that the whole concept of the model is not fully thought through. Not precise enough for a scale model, but hardly playable at the same time, because it's optimized only for one feature (that has maybe the smallest effect on playability of a push-and-pay car). Yes. I am angry.
  15. I don't think that your comparison is quite right. The worm gear setup has a quite significant gearing up at the end: 32 vs 8 teeth. That may introduce significantly more friction than the gears in the other setup.
  16. This picture implies that the steering rack will have only +/- 0.5 stud travel, meaning pretty poor turning radius.
  17. That's technology. Gives room for other, possibly more interesting (mechanical) features.
  18. SBrick with contoller app. for calculating proper speeds+one motor per side.
  19. Sylvian, with a little polishing (front area and the roof), it could have been a very nice MOC.
  20. That's interesting. How do you implement the difference between the red and blue version with Lego? I mean at the front axle the difference is a few percent of a stud.
  21. Why use a differential if it's fixed anyway? Just use big enough gears to reduce slack.
  22. II don't know how uncommon, but I made a solid axle with push-rod suspension and with Watt's linkage instead of Panhard rod to restrict sideways movements of the axles.
  23. There was a discussion about it in this thread. Probably because the gearbox can jam is some circumstances, for example if the model is pushed during switching for a very short time because the previous gear doesn't fully disengage when the new gear is already catching.
  24. Hmmm, I try to visit the race, I always try but usually miss. It would be nice to meet again.
