  1. Today there are no sets available for Space fans, there are sets about space but not Space. Every product has a heritage and unique style that must be respected. Not doing that is bad business. That doesn't mean there's anything wrong with new products, you just can't replace something iconic with some random stuff and expect people to buy it. At least the Pirates sets are based on factions from that theme and gets released regularly. I also like that theme very much and appreciate the new sets.
  2. They had their own Space theme with a distinct design language for 20 years. Most people that are interested in buying Icons style sets grew up with that and expect something respectful to the heritage and fandom that exists. Other companies understands this. The upcoming Dodge Charger is based on the heritage and design language of the Charger. What is now happening is like if Dodge would base the design of the new Charger on something random like Harrison Ford's first bicycle. I was so looking forward to a huge Blacktron spaceship. It feels so frustrating to watch all other themes except Space getting "space" sets. At least I can look forward to the Blacktron 2, M-Tron and Ice Planet minifigs from the upcoming series.
  3. This is really bad news. Why do the Space theme always get mistreated like this when nice sets like the Eldorado Fortress and the Medieval Village get released for other themes. Why base a spaceship on the apartment of some rapper? I don't give a rat's megablocks about 549 different skintones or whatever Hollywood crap they try to push these days. We need proper Space sets!
  4. When I was a teenager my room was just a large Lego city and a bed in one corner. Our cat liked to walk along the roads but he was so kind and didn't do anything unless I turned the trains on. I never had to worry then about leaving stuff on tables unlike today because my current cat believes he's Godzilla. I nowadays have all my displays behind glass, on large shelves high up that my cat can't reach or in a locked room. He's allowed to "play" with Lego under adult supervision (me). He loves when I fire the cannons from the pirate sets or the catapult from 6056. He also likes to watch videos from Bricks Planet. In the summer I dare to leave some stuff in the open because then he's mostly outdoors.
  5. Same here. I also had to bring back my Lego to my room after building and playing. There were two exceptions, Large train setups were allowed to be left in place for several days and if our cat was sleeping on a pile of bricks on the floor they could stay there. I still can't understand why our cat liked to sleep on Lego pieces.
  6. This is not my opinion but I found it so funny and crazy that I have to post it here. I stumbled upon this discussion when searching for opinions about SNOT building. This has nothing to do with that, it's just some discussion thread where people on some homeschooling forum talk about how much they hate Lego and want to ban it from their houses. https://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/421327-i-despise-legos-am-i-ruining-my-child/ Some people there seem to like Lego but most of the parents there seems like total morons. I feel sorry for their kids. I'm so glad that I have very kind parents (that bought me a lot of Lego when I was a kid) and that I went to a normal school.
  7. If such a website would be made maybe we could all help with the pictures. I have over a thousand minifigs from the late 70s to the late 90s in mostly great condition plus some newer ones that are related to the classic themes. All that is needed is some place where people can upload their contributions and a set of standards how to take the pictures. Others might have minifigs from other themes and eras so I believe It wouldn't be difficult to get all the pictures if the community gets involved.
  8. It's so cool to see other sets converted for the original space factions. You did a fantastic job! Some Star Wars sets also look great as converted, I found this on BrickFanatics: https://www.brickfanatics.com/lego-star-wars-meets-classic-space-in-this-fan-made-mashup
  9. What is missing is a website about minifigs. There used to be a website called minimundo.de with pictures of all minifigures released. The website was very easy to use and if I clicked Black Falcons it showed me all Black Falcon minifigs on a single page with some additional information like year released and which sets they belonged to.
  10. I chose Sabre Island because I believe it would be perfect as an GWP. I made my decision based on the size and form of the set. The subthemes I'd mostly want to see in a GWP are the Islanders or the Imperial Armada because they haven't been getting any new sets since the 90s. Maybe the the GWP could be an Armada version of Sabre Island with an Islanders canoe instead of a boat?
  11. Some of the current City sets are really nice and look great, especially the Arctic Explorer subtheme and the trains.
  12. In the late 90s I lost interest in new City/Town sets (with a few exceptions like trains) because of the junio.rized style they started to use back then. In 2005 things started to improve and we had great sets up until about 2016. It was almost like a second golden age and it was also other themes like Castle and Pirates to name a few. After 2016 it started to go downhill again and some of today's City sets are dangerously close to Jack Stone level.
  13. I have so many childhood memories of many of these sets and others I've acquired later in life. I liked them very much as a kid and I still do. Back then I didn't know who designed them but later I found out that Jørn Thomsen designed them. All of these sets are so great. He was a truly legendary designer and his work has made millions of kids (and adults) happy. These are the sets that got me interested in Lego and when I build spaceships and other vehicles these sets serve as inspiration and motivation for me. Great tribute video.
  14. I had to check mine. It has been assembled for like forever and is the centerpiece of my Space display and I see it all the time. It was built according to the instructions so the gap was there. Now I've changed it to be like the picture. I also checked the 1989 catalog and there it is also like the instructions photo without a gap. I can't understand how I haven't seen this before because I frequently work on my Space display and look at old catalogs a lot although never at the same time.
  15. I asked the staff in the Lego House about the future of this set when they release the new one. According to them 40504 will not be discontinued in the near future.
  16. This should have been the real set! I have no interest in microscale space sets.
  17. Will 40504 A minifigure Tribute still be available after this one is released?
  18. I like this very much. I miss this style of sets greatly. It has the right amount of detail and that true Lego feel to it!
  19. I prefer the printed baseplate and the yellow bricks on a blue baseplate. It is not an option here but I also use yellow tiles on a blue baseplate a lot. I use tan plates for space landscapes. The printed baseplate is by far the best looking alternative but the downside is that the shape and size of the island is predetermined.
  20. They are 100 percent identical on the outside so it's impossible to tell from a photo. I never experienced Classic Space as new sets available from stores. The first Space sets I got were Futuron, Blacktron 1 and Space Police 1. When my family realized how much I liked Lego they got me used sets including some Classic Space to increase my collection. My first catalogs were from 88-89 so I remember seeing Classic Space sets there together with the Futuron sets. Later I've acquired many Classic Space sets.
  21. They are all correct! The robot in #3 also appears in a set from 2014, they are exactly the same except that the 2014 version has a black bar inside to keep the arms from falling off. The one pictured is the newer one but it's impossible to tell them apart without removing the arms.
  22. Glad to hear that you liked the pictures. I have only seen set #1 in Billund and Brickset states "Available from LEGOLAND Billund". If I remember correctly the set came with a generic cardboard frame but you are supposed to put the photo that you can buy after the Indian Canoe ride in Legoland Billund there instead. All Lego pieces you see in the picture are included in the set. Correct!
  23. I have taken some pictures that partially show various Lego sets. Can you guess which one it is? Some are pretty simple while others can be more difficult. Please do not quote the pictures when answering. 1. This one I bought in Legoland Billund 2. My dad gave this set to me when I was a kid. It instantly became my favorite set and still is! If you want a hint look at my username 3. The baseplate does not belong to the set 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. (The police van in the lower part of the picture does not belong to the set) 9. (You get an extra point if you can guess my favorite hockey team) 10. 11. 12. The gray baseplate does not belong to the set 13. 14. 15. 16. 17. Sorry about the dust 18. 19. 20. This minifig is unique to this set 21. This picture has two correct answers 22. A similar set is also available in yellow 23. 24. 25. 26. 27.
  24. You have managed to capture the spirit of Classic Space with a fantastic very detailed build.
