LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
SpacePolice89 replied to Lyichir's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
That's a bit unfair. Everybody is entitled to an opinion even if you don't agree with them. Hate is a strong word and is not appropriate to use in this case. -
What location/scene come to your mind when thinking about Pirates...
SpacePolice89 replied to zinnn's topic in LEGO Pirates
Pirates on land sounds like a great idea. Maybe something like the cancelled Europa theme? It could be Imperials vs highwaymen and bandits, I'm thinking about something like a 18th century version of Wolfpack. Many civilian sets could also be included like taverns and farms. Some regular pirate characters like Captain Redbeard could even make a cameo as a guest at the tavern. -
If I remember correctly most regular pieces sold in Europe are made in Denmark and packing and brick printing is done in the Czech Republic (two countries that I respect very much and both have strong democracy) while Hungary mostly produces Duplo and some regular bricks. I'm aware of the situation in Hungary and I see Orban as a great threat to democracy but Hungary is still way better than total dictatorships like China because Hungary still has to follow EU rules and can't work too openly with Russia because of NATO. I have Hungarian friends and greatly respect the Hungarian people but I have very different feelings for Orban and his pack. Even in low cost countries like China where slave labor is common Lego offers good working conditions and benefits while pay unfortunately is according to local standards. I read somewhere that Lego regularly get top spots when they rank the best employers in Europe, unfortunately I can't remember where. My cousin's friend works for them and she has only good things to say about the company. When it comes to other products like batteries and electric razors I always check the country of origin before I buy. I recently bought a Philips razor and there were different models made in different countries, NL, CHN, and Indonesia I think. I bought the one from the Netherlands.

That is also very important for me, it seems like an issue most people can agree on. I'm more neoconservative when it comes to politics but let's not get into that too much. Whatever I buy I try to buy from companies that pay their workers well and hasn't moved production to low cost countries. For example all my flashlights are Maglite (made in the US), batteries mostly Varta (Germany) and electric razors Philips (the Netherlands). All my cars have been UK made Fords or South Korean made Chevys. My main reason for liking Lego is the superior product but manufacturing locations and working conditions are also very important for me.

Very nice tower and building techniques. Guard towers are important because they keep invading enemies away!

I believe it will get the most votes in the end

Of the newer ships I like the Queen Anne's Revenge the most, It's a great choice.
-
Perhaps an odd choice but the 6271 Imperial Flagship has always been my favorite. I like the design and the colors, especially the sails. The original Black Seas Barracuda is number two and the Caribbean Clipper is number three.

I completely agree. They designed the minifigure so it's only fair that it's protected. The article has no information about the employees so I can't comment on that one.

Galaxy Explorer (10497) - How well did it sell?

It's even more awesome when you build it. Trust me, I haven't been this happy for a new Space set since 1996!- 53 replies

Seeing MOCs like this one makes me want new Space sets even more. They should do what they did with the Galaxy Explorer to all Space subthemes and also do sets in different sizes.
-
I have never claimed anything like that. I regularly get surveys and questionnaires from Lego and related organizations like Bricklink and that's a great way to voice one's opinion. I even got one from Pick a Brick why I bought pieces instead of regular sets. There I explained that because they don't sell small and mid sized Pirate, Castle and Space sets I have to buy pieces and make my own instead. And by supporting sets like the Galaxy Explorer, Lion Knights Castle and Eldorado Fortress it's possible to show them that the classic themes are still very popular. It must be working to a certain degree since we have been getting several classic theme sets from Creator and Ideas lately.

I think that would backfire very badly, it would lead to the closure of many Lego plants and the Chinese CCP run companies taking over the market. It is best to support Lego while at the same time trying to influence them from within to make some of the sets and themes that we want. Competition is good but I believe it's wrong that other companies are allowed to make identical bricks. That is why I stick to a strict Lego only policy. Another important reason is that I like the Lego products specifically as well as many aspects of the Lego Group and their values.

So did I, I bought 6087 Witch's Magic Manor (and some parts) which I'm going to modify into a larger fortress

I think it's ridiculous that others can use exactly the same pieces after such a short time. Movies and art are protected much longer and so should products like Lego also be in my opinion. I have no problem with others manufacturing interlocking building bricks and pieces but when they use the same dimensions and even make exact copies of pieces they cross a red line.

MOC: Shell tanker wagon (7813 remake)

Fantastic build, this should be a real set! -
I doubt that they would have gotten permission from Kiddicraft if they had acquired the design illegally. I disagree many times with the decisions of the Lego Group but in general they are a good company and one of the best employers because they treat their staff very good. They are also one of the few toy companies that have manufacturing in Europe, almost all pieces sold in Europe are made in Denmark or Hungary and the printing and packing is done in the Czech Republic. Recently they have donated lots of money to Ukraine and they regularly participate in charity stuff so I hold them in the highest regard. I've spent many childhood summers in Denmark and also visited many times since then so I've seen the positive impact Lego has on the Billund area.

"A Briton, Hilary Fisher Page, and his company Kiddicraft has invented the plastic bricks that Ole Kirk and his son Godtfred are presented with. In the late 1950s, the LEGO Group contacts Kiddicraft to ask whether they object to the LEGO® brick. They do not. On the contrary, they wish the company good luck with the bricks, as they have not enjoyed much success with their product. In 1981, the LEGO Group purchases the rights to the Kiddicraft bricks and trademark from the descendants of Hilary Fisher Page." https://www.lego.com/en-gb/history/articles/c-automatic-binding-bricks/ That is from Lego themselves so I don't see any problem with them manufacturing the bricks back then. Firstly they had permission to do so and secondly they didn't ride on someone else's coattails like parasitic companies such as Zuru Max or Lepin does.

1. Eldorado Fortress (difficult choice because I like both sets) 2. Black

The Bricklink team did a great job fixing it this fast!

You are correct, but there are some minor differences so it must be two different molds even if they are considered to be the same part. The most recent mold has only been used for the silver monkey in two sets.
