  1. I meant the original minifigure themes that were present every year (Town, Castle, Space and later also Pirates). I believe that you knew what I meant and just trying to be sarcastic. I kinda agree but it is also a bad move to ignore your own fans and only cater to fans of various kinds of popular culture. Maybe it would be best for Lego to compromise and have a little bit of both? I believe modern kids like cool spaceships no matter if it's Star Wars, Spyrius or something completely new.
  2. And losing others like me. They should at least release a full wave of sets for one of the original themes every year. Nowadays I mostly buy pre 1999 sets from Bricklink and occasionally a new set from Lego.com like the new Galaxy Explorer.
  3. Captain Redbeard, but I prefer the original minifigure from 1989. Thank you @Yperio_Bricks for making these fun and interesting polls!
  4. I agree that the prices are sometimes insane. I buy mostly older stuff and there the prices vary a lot, I have a list of sets that I want and when I find one for the right price I buy it. Sometimes though I have to have a set right away and then I might pay more. I mostly build dioramas where I use both original sets and my own mocs. I often make good deals at garage sales and local websites that sells random stuff, most of the time those people don't know anything about the value of specific Lego sets and only regard them as old toys they want to get a couple of bucks for. You should try local garage sales and thrift stores, they tend to have a lot of sets from around 2010 and the prices are usually very low.
  5. It's not too late. I believe that most of those sets are available on Bricklink and Ebay. My first sets as a kid were from the late 80s and when I later in life wanted earlier stuff like Classic Space I've found most of the sets I want on the secondary market.
  6. I've used Bricklink since 2002 and can warmly recommend it. As long as you use Paypal it's super easy to order stuff from Bricklink. Before ordering you can always check the feedback from the store you want to buy from. I found this Youtube video about how to use Bricklink: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJSZILRjj_E
  7. That is a possibility, because the operating procedure of Blacktron is perhaps similar to that of the Vikings. I believe that in those days regional marketing teams could quite freely make up names and marketing stuff.
  8. @Yperio_BricksTown, Castle, Space and later Pirates sets available every year. Appearance of many iconic sets like the Futuron Monorail and the Black Seas Barracuda. And of course the introduction of the ghost, skeleton and the green dragon. And by 90s I mean the early and mid 90s before juni orization happened. The catalogs were a piece of art with beautiful landscapes and brick built worlds. Better quality control and materials. But of course this is individual and it has been discussed before.
  9. Is that a North American box because my 6990 box is different? I remember seeing the name Alpha or Alfa for Futuron or Classic Space in a Swedish Lego catalog when I was a kid.
  10. If it's the same torso as the original I'll acquire several and convert them to regular M-Tron astronauts. Otherwise I'll just buy one.
  11. Is the M-Tron logo exactly the same as the original one? The images I saw were so blurry it was hard to tell.
  12. I already imagined a huge castle with two enormous doors like a gate . I also have the Black Monarch's Ghost, it's a really nice set for it's size and the ghost is so cool! Given it's size and iconic status the Robo Guardian is surprisingly inexpensive on Bricklink. https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?S=6949-1&name=Robo-Guardian&category=[Space][Spyrius]#T=S&O={"iconly":0}
  13. I prefer to not buy fakes, and everyone should avoid supporting mainland Chinese companies due to the current world situation.
  14. Any of those would make a great Icons set. It would be very interesting to see a larger version of Black Monarch's Ghost. Spyrius had some great sets and the Robo Guardian is a truly iconic set. I got the Robo Guardian for Christmas 94. When I was a kid I always wanted the Futuron Monorail but when my parents were going to buy it it wasn't available anymore. Later as an adult I bought it from Bricklink.
  15. 6990 Monorail Transport System (the set is perfect the way it is but I'd love a new monorail and new track) 6949 Robo Guardian (an even larger version would be cool) 6074 Black Falcon's Fortress (a full sized version with the same general design) 375 Yellow Castle (a modern version using the same colors and minifigs) 6018 Battle Dragon (a 10 times larger version with a lot of details and more minifigs) 3314 Police Unit (make it a full scale soccer riot with lots of riot control police and water cannons, I know it'll never happen but it'd be a fun set) 6335 Indy Transport (similar but larger) 6544 Shuttle Transcon 2 (similar but larger) 6270 Forbidden Island (similar but larger) 6274 Caribbean Clipper (similar but larger) I think that all these sets are perfect in their original form but it would also be cool to get new larger versions of them with different parts and building techniques. They should keep the original minifigs just like they did with the Galaxy Explorer and maybe add one new torso print per set and a new face based on the classic smiley face.
  16. Quality is still very good but not as good as it was during the 80s and 90s. The difference in quality between old and new pieces is so small that most of the time it doesn't matter. Nowadays color consistency between pieces can sometimes be a problem as well as transparent pieces that get easily scratched. Newer pieces also feels "softer" in some way, I don't know how to explain it better. I started to notice a small decline in quality in the mid 2000s but overall Lego still makes a very high end quality product just like they used to do during the golden era in the 80s and 90s. You can safely buy new Lego sets because the quality is still very high. The modern instructions are the worst, the old ones have very clear colors and outlines but the new ones are very dark and it's difficult to tell some colors apart.
  17. Very cool build! I voted for for you.
  18. I also like the original version the most. I voted for white uniforms but green would also be cool because I like the Sharpe TV series very much.
  19. Now it is also sold out in Europe (Lego Shop at Home). It was still available two days ago.
  20. I prefer yellow, it's a good compromise because no one is yellow in real life and everyone can identify with yellow minifigs. Yellow is to Lego what blue is to the Smurfs.
  21. Are there no minifig scale Creator 3 in 1 sets?
  22. That might very well be the case. I like both Space and Castle but have zero interest in Nexo Knights. City space is much better than Nexo Knights but still stuck in that middle ground that I don't like. Subthemes like Blacktron and Space Police were hugely successful with just a small amount of narrative and backstory and are considered iconic today, Less is more when it comes backstory and narrative, let the builder user his or her imagination. I believe the Lego brand and an interesting build are enough for a set to be successful.
  23. I agree. I think City space sets should be realistic like they used to be in the mid 90s while Space space sets should be like Futuron or Spyrius to name a few examples and have transparent canopies in different colors.
