Is It Possible To Reintroduce Old Sets?
SpacePolice89 replied to SpacePolice89's topic in General LEGO Discussion
What constitutes a tiresome argument is very subjective. The word nostalgia is easily used to label anyone who likes older themes and styles even when it is not appropriate. I like the original Classic Space sets very much but I wasn't even born when they were released so it can't be nostalgia. The first subthemes I got were Futuron and Blacktron. But do I want to ban the word nostalgia, the answer is no. Censorship is never a good thing. That is also my understanding of the term. 6486 is a typical example -
Is It Possible To Reintroduce Old Sets?
SpacePolice89 replied to SpacePolice89's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Yes that happens but in my case it didn't. The design change caused me to lose interested only in the sets that were juniori zed. I still bought Town subthemes like Arctic and ResQ that weren't juniori zed. I also bought my friends old Lego collections for cheap. I also believe that Lego realized that junior ization was a bad move because World City was a step in the right direction and then the first City sets were very close to pre juni orized town. Only later I had a long collect only phase (about ten years) when almost all my time and energy went towards playing hockey. -

Imagine if the words "nostalgia" or "SNOT" would also be banned and everybody would have to describe them every time they would want to use it. Censorship is not good and it's pretty obvious that junioriz ation is the term for the dumbed down style that existed in the late 90s and early 00s. If many people dislike juniori zied sets it must be a reason behind it and it's much easier and more practical to use that word than to describe it every time. -
I also joined LUGNET in 2002. Before that I didn't know any people my own age that liked Lego. At the same time I also discovered Bricklink and Brickshelf. It was like a dream coming true being able to buy all the sets I didn't get when I was younger and Brickshelf gave me a lot of ideas for my MOCs.

Is It Possible To Reintroduce Old Sets?
SpacePolice89 replied to SpacePolice89's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Since we are all grown ups we should be able to discuss subjects such as junior ization without censoring opinions. I was still a kid in the late 90s and junioriz ation caused me to lose interest in new sets, especially Town sets. Of course everybody understand that Lego is primarily a product for kids but the complaints about junio.rization are usually about the sets being dumbed down to a level that they are only suitable for pre school children. It was such a major design change that it is a very relevant thing to discuss and have opinions about, both now and then. -
1990s Lego Space was best - how to revive Lego Space
SpacePolice89 replied to Canondorf's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Yes, the stickers are not good. That's true. I very much prefer printed bricks. But I'm glad that the remake looks a bit different because I also have the original. It was one of my favorite spaceships when I was a kid. -

I agree, If remakes are done they have to respect the aesthetics and colors of the original theme/subtheme. I also prefer new sets in the same style as the old ones instead of remakes. But some remakes are just perfect, like the Blacktron Cruiser and the new Galaxy Explorer. Some kid swallowed 50 of them and then got stuck on the side of a bus. -
2025/26 Castle [wishlist/speculation]
SpacePolice89 replied to GreenhouseBricker's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
If it was up to me the next wave of Castle sets would be the Black Knights vs Forestmen and it would get a full lineup of sets. I'd avoid to position the factions as good guys and bad guys and instead let the customers choose that themselves. It worked great in the past with Forestmen vs Knights and Pirates vs Imperial Soldiers/Guards. -

I agree with you. The design language they used to have was a huge hit and those subthemes are legendary. All of those sold extremely well. Only later when they strayed too far from that style the sales started to go down. I'd prefer yearly releases of such sets. Some could me more traditional while others could use modern building techniques, then there would be something for everyone to like. It's amazing to se all the MOCs for those subthemes that are made today that are far superior than most current sets. Personally I also like the colors of Spyrius, Blacktron 2 and Space Police 2 but they would have to alternate between factions from year to year to be able to do this so I think there would be room for all the faction and colors but not at the same time -
2025/26 Castle [wishlist/speculation]
SpacePolice89 replied to GreenhouseBricker's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
You are right about that. With The Medieval Town Square as a brand new set and the Lion Knights Castle still available I doubt that we'll get any new sets through Icons in the near future. Maybe from Creator 3 in 1 because that castle will be discontinued this year. I'd love a full wave of sets as a standalone subtheme but that is highly unlikely to happen. -

Almost yearly then. The Medieval Town Square (2024) is a really nice Lion Knights set. And the Majisto GWP (Dragon Knights) was released in 2023. -

The Viking Village was released in 2023 but I don't know if it counts as a castle set? -
2025/26 Castle [wishlist/speculation]
SpacePolice89 replied to GreenhouseBricker's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
True, but it's not that what is the problem. The City Space sets doesn't feel like real Space sets nor are they labelled as such in any catalog or list. They are amazing sets in their own right but they are not Space sets. Trust me, I'd buy Blacktron or Futuron sets no matter what they would be called but City Space doesn't feel like Space. -

Lion Knights Castle was released in 2022. Icons, Ideas and Creator are not normal themes like City (modern day stuff) or Castle (medieval period) because they can include anything and any style. -

Space is a theme just like Pirates and Castle. Saying the City sets are Space sets is like saying that Star Wars and Marvel are the same thing. -

SpacePolice89 replied to GreenhouseBricker's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
It is related to the topic because the "year of space" treatment is disastrous for any theme. In 1988 one subtheme just got replaced by another, I don't understand what you are trying to say. It is indeed very ok to like new subthemes, but sadly no new subthemes exists for Space nor are sets made for the old ones. Since Galaxy Squad there hasn't been any new subthemes (this is not my opinion, this is a fact!), only one off sets made for older subthemes like Classic Space and Blacktron 1, all of which were discontinued prior to the so called "year of space". Castle doesn't either currently get new subthemes but at least sets are made on a yearly basis for the Lion Knights and the Black Falcons. -

Last year the Galaxy Explorer (Classic Space) and the Blacktron Cruiser (Blacktron 1) were discontinued. Since then no new sets or subthemes/factions have been introduced for the Space theme. There are no sets for the Space theme available and related Creator, Ideas and Icons sets are also not available. -

SpacePolice89 replied to GreenhouseBricker's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I hope that they don't do it the same way as they did with the so called "year of space". There is currently not a single set for sale that belongs to or is related to the Space theme. What is more likely is that they'll continue to introduce Castle sets under different sub brands like Ideas, Icons and Creator. And be happy for that because the "year of space" treatment means no sets at all. My personal preference would be a stand alone Castle subtheme like Kingdoms from 2011. -
It was very difficult to choose between the original Eldorado Fortress and the Imperial Trading Post. I like both very much. In the end I picked Eldorado Fortress but both feel equally good.

71046 CMF series 26: Space themed!
SpacePolice89 replied to Megbricks's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'll change several parts of the Blacktron, M-Tron and Ice Planet minifigs to make them look more like the originals. They'll all get standard helmets with trans neon green and orange visors. The Ice Planet minifig will get a trans neon orange chainsaw and the Blacktron minifig will get white and black legs and an arm. I'll swap the heads also to classic smiley heads for the Blacktron and M-Tron. -
The City space sets are very nice but unfortunately not something I'm interested in. While the new pirates and Imperial Soldiers look good alongside the old ones the City space figs doesn't have that Space look. For me to be interested they would have to be like the Space Police Guy or the green Futuron or reproductions of the original minifigs like they did in the new Galaxy Explorer. The upcoming CMF space series has some interesting minifigs that I look forward to, especially the M-Tron, Blacktron 2 and Ice Planet ones.

I don't pay much attention to if the sets are Ideas, Icons, Creator or just GWPs. The Creator 3 in 1 castle has Black Falcon minifigs and the Barracuda Bay had Captain Redbeard and his crew. I want something similar for Space.

Today there are no sets available for Space fans, there are sets about space but not Space. Every product has a heritage and unique style that must be respected. Not doing that is bad business. That doesn't mean there's anything wrong with new products, you just can't replace something iconic with some random stuff and expect people to buy it. At least the Pirates sets are based on factions from that theme and gets released regularly. I also like that theme very much and appreciate the new sets.
