  1. We never had the chance to choose between Space and Star Wars. After 1999 Space as we knew it was dead and only because SW feared competition. Personally I believe that both could coexist.
  2. That's rich since the licensing deals killed all but one of the original themes. Upcoming Ideas sets (they are all licensed or hipster sets except Amsterdam): Godzilla 3rd 2024 Jun 2025 Q2 2026 Power Rangers 1st 2025 Oct 2025 Q4 2026 La Catrina 1st 2025 Oct 2025 Q4 2026 Smurf Village 1st 2025 Oct 2025 Q4 2026 Ramen 1st 2025 Oct 2025 Q4 2026 ET 1st 2025 Oct 2025 Q4 2026 Downton Abbey 1st 2025 Oct 2025 Q4 2026 Edward Scissorhands 2nd 2025 Apr 2026 Q1 2027 Amsterdam houses 2nd 2025 Apr 2026 Q1 2027 National Lampoon 2nd 2025 Apr 2026 Q4 2026 Old Man and the Sea 1st 2025 Apr 2026 Q1 2027
  3. Today even Barracuda Bay would've been rejected. They only want licensed sets for Ideas nowadays.
  4. @Mister PhesOver in the Sci Fi section we've had some problems with Brickshelf hosted pictures not being visible to Australians. I don't know why. Is it the same here? Can you see the picture below? In the linked thread the problem is being discussed
  5. Licensed slop is the perfect term to describe many of those sets. They just blindly copy everything from pop culture instead of building something original.
  6. What gets banned and always returns? Answer below:
  7. I agree. Fortunately there are City compatible buildings in Creator 3 in1, Modulars and BDP.
  8. It is available again, I really hope that this means that it won't be replaced or discontinued. Maybe they'll do some improvements to the structure of the baseplate instead and give it a new set number?
  9. It's much easier to market and sell a single theme each year, especially to kids and parents. I think the mixed model is better for AFOLs but for the general public a "new" theme each year would be better. Yes, it looks amazing!
  10. I hope that's the case. What makes me worried is that the blue baseplate retires this year and the rest next year. Last time they changed the packaging they changed all baseplates at the same time. Maybe they'll replace the blue baseplate with a tan one sometimes mid year because the retirement date is July 31?
  11. I read on Brick Fanatics that the baseplates will be retired in 2026 (blue) and 2027 (all the others). Does this mean that they'll be replaced with new baseplates or is this the end of baseplates? https://www.brickfanatics.com/every-lego-set-retiring-this-year-and-beyond/#retiring-classic-sets The blue one is already sold out https://www.lego.com/en-gb/product/blue-baseplate-11025?CMP=AFC-AffiliateUK-US9P%2F9RI%2FvA-2860710-1539294-10
  12. Me too. The only really exciting new theme/subtheme since 2015 was the City space one. The video in the link illustrates the decline very well.
  13. I guess many people would call me a purist classic Lego fan but I also love the ca 2005-2015 era with so many diverse themes. It is proof that in house themes can coexist successfully with licensed themes. While I personally mostly collect sets from 1979 to 1998 I very much appreciate the renaissance era. Neophilia / (ˌniːəʊˈfɪlɪə) / noun a tendency to like anything new; love of novelty
  14. I think that the nostalgia argument is getting tiresome and overplayed. I for example love sets like the original Galaxy Explorer that existed about ten years before I got my first Lego sets. I never experienced those sets as a kid and I still like them very much only because I find them good.
