The story behind a DC Superhero....
TheLegoDr replied to LEGO Historian's topic in General LEGO Discussion
That's really neat how it all came together. Interesting to draw something without first seeing people use a product. I've seen similar things happen with optometry equipment advertisements where they are holding the equipment wrong. One would assume you'd do some research if it was to be published. Holding a LEGO brick one way over another may not be a big deal depending on how it would attach to the build. -
I'm sure it was mentioned earlier, but Mattel and Mega Bloks already teamed up for their Barbie building sets. So Mattel was already trying to get into the construction toy business on the female side of things. Now with these other licenses, they will have a bigger piece in the market. But that doesn't mean anything. It seems most people that are already into LEGO won't pay much attention to MB outside of seeing it on the shelves. The families that want a building block set, will buy anything they can afford.

That is odd they would discontinue the sets out of order. Even if the Town Hall isn't selling as well, they wouldn't have to make any future productions of it. Just sell off the remaining stock and if it sells out first, then let it be so. I'm glad I own both already, but that does make one wonder if they don't have as long of a shelf life as expected. I need PC and PR still, so I'm not too far behind.

Yet another great build. I love the sunroom area in the florist. Even if I didn't have a florist, I'd want to incorporate that into my modular somehow. The archway next to the cash register is very neat. Adds a lot of character to that store. The apartment kitchen is superb! I might put some upper cabinets in mine, but otherwise it was going to look a lot like that. It's just nice to see how it would look in the brick. My only qualm would be the countertop color matching the floors. But in reality it isn't that big of a deal. The bathroom is creative. I've never seen one of those old fashioned toilets. I like the use of the cape as a shower curtain.

That explains it. I saw iron man 3 in theaters almost a year ago and have never seen the other show. I think I may have to make my own Coulson now. Thanks for the tip.

It looks like a great playset. And for pieces and size it probably is worth that amount. But that is a heavy asking price, especially after releasing Ewok village not long ago. Star Wars fans must have tons of money to buy all of these exclusives. I would definitely pick this up eventually, but there are too many other exclusives that I need to get and regular sets that u want, that I will probably never be able to swing this. Something has to get cut out for budget purposes and for me that is Star Wars.. Solid builds though. Looks way better than the original.

Oky, I love your comics. But I must not be up to date on what the last two mean. I do love the MM parody. And what had was used for Coulson? Is it a POTC one?
-
That last is actually pretty disappointing. Many people who buy the set will also buy these. I realize the eyes may be different, but you are essentially getting the family and ned twice..lame. and Mr burns without a Mr smithers? I'll just have you wait to see if the accessories are worth buying.
-
That's really neat. But why didn't you use the Dark Knight version of the torso instead of the classic black/yellow?
-
Great designs! I really like the Ambulance. I realize you said it came from Arkham set, but I wanted an older type vehicle for my Modular town since it is based in an older era. I plan on doing an older style Hospital. The vanguard is really neat too. I had no idea what type of car that was originally supposed to be either.

Review: The Lego Movie 30282 Super Secret Police Enforcer
TheLegoDr replied to ResIpsaLoquitur's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I liked this figure initially. I held it in my hands at TRU and put it back. I decided against army building these guys. Not sure why. I do like the rifle. I think the castle side of me comes out more and more instead of the sci-fi side. Thanks for the review! -
Shop at Home and local LEGO stores are all sold out of this series. I think most places are running out. No one near me has any left, not even TRU and they usually have stockpiles. Also, I thought the scribble face variant was exclusive to the CMF and the good cop/bad cop was in the set? And the next series Simpsons are due out in May I believe.

Interesting buildings. Nice job. I really like the coloring on the second one. How did the hooks get attached to the rod in the first picture? The gentleman in the back is carrying two buckets via hooks. Is that glued on or are there holes big enough to accommodate that? I'd love to make a more accurate cane for Riddler.

2014 - Best and Biggest LEGO Year Ever?
TheLegoDr replied to TheBrickPal's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I think not only are wages flat, but taxes seem to be going up (at least here). I have had yearly raises since I started my job, but I actually take home less because my taxes have also gone up. It is very unfortunate. I definitely have spent less over the last 6 months than I normally would have, but at the same time I guess that is good. I have been shying away from some collections I normally would have purchased otherwise. There was something at a toy fair or convention recently that showed the Simpsons and the following series would both be $3.99 apiece. Just imagine the TRU mark up there! It may have to do with licensing, but it also may have to do with the success of the line and not much competition. Yes, every manufacturer has a blind bag collectible now, but LEGO knows they have loyalty with most fans. I've enjoyed that series, but with the price increase it will be difficult to keep up. Just getting 1 complete set now takes away 5 minifigures worth of dollars away from where it was originally (16 x $4 vs 16 x $3). Even with the success of Friends, we are buying less and less of that for our daughter. Maybe LEGO is trying to tell us something. Quit buying new bricks and enjoy what you have. Be more creative with what you have and that in turn will be a success.... -
Since CUUSOO is limited production runs I'd recommend getting that sooner than later. They may have multiple CUUSOO sets out at the same time, but unless it continually sells well, I don't see them doing multiple production runs after the first one or two. The recent Mars Rover sold out quickly and it still isn't in stock. They are probably debating on having another production run. Once sold out, it very well could be unavailable for good, except for in the aftermarket.

Great LEGO movie reference. I'd watch that show too...Although after looking him up online, I much prefer the undies look. Those pants don't do much for me. Thanks for sharing. And I have no problem with Wonder woman dressing like that

^To answer the above question, the LEGO Movie Sea Cow was the exclusive set revealed on March 1st. It was only available to VIPs before then. As far as Marvel 1, etc. listed in the book, I thought the rest were linked to the GotG. As in 3 GotG and 1 X-Men set and that was that for Marvel this year.

21104 Availability of Mars Curiosity Rover
TheLegoDr replied to TheBrickPal's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
More than likely it being a CUUSOO set, they are all sold out of the current production run and looking into another production run. Normally they do small batches, and with how quickly it sold out they are probably planning on coming out with another run. My best guess is to bide your time and it will probably become listed as in stock again (a similar thing happened with the DeLorean). Granted, I have no inside knowledge on this, so if you can find it anywhere, you should probably pick it up. -
This is awesome! I loved M-Tron as a kid. This is a great recreation of activities involving them. I'd almost want to copy this and make my own display!! A lot of great details here. Even though Blacktron II were my favorite growing up, M-Tron were second on the list. It must be that trans fluorescent green color. Keep up the great work!

Tumbler, Bat Pod & The Bat - Movie Accurate 2 Seaters
TheLegoDr replied to woon_tze's topic in LEGO Licensed
These look great! I highly doubt LEGO would ever release any of these again since the Nolan movies are over. However, I'd love to own copies of these. I'll have to see if I can retro-build these from the pictures you provided! Keep up the great work.- 35 replies

Thanks for the review. He looks great. Although I don't know much about him. Now I just need to decide what sets to buy to get him..

^I would use 1x2 technic bricks with hole in center. That way there wouldn't be any risk of cracking. I assume this is what was used here?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 Rumors & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
Not too keen on those sets, as it stands. I'll have to wait for more detailed pictures. I'll more than likely pick up April and the Will Arnett figure, and pass on the rest. Shredder is a maybe. The foot soldiers look like more militarized soldiers, as opposed to ninjas. Maybe that's what they are going for? The lair could be decent. They must have had a few extra Lone Ranger Mine sets sitting around to use up those dark brown slides ..
