Nicely done. It looks like a lot of 1x4x5 light gray doors. Those don't come cheap. The facade is interesting. I've never been to Italy, so I assume it is pretty traditional. Keep up the great work!

My recent order had pieces (in stock) that were instantly put in back order. The rep said the order went through okay and is receive it in two days. It didn't ship for another week and I finally received the order two days ago. Still no response on when the other pieces will ship out. Now I need to place another order, but with all of my modifications it's hard to keep straight what I need. I think a lot of that flex cable is meant to be cut to length, so the 180 isn't an issue. Just slice it in the middle to get the right length.

And here I was expecting to see a MOC of a huge mountain and Hulk climbing up top to do something..silly me. Nice job making that climb. I don't know if I could handle it.

^That's awesome. I have 5 of those 2x10 red-brown bricks from other sets I own that aren't together. But I won't be using any of them since my build is a little modified.

ASK HERE MOC-stuck? Ask for general building advice here!
TheLegoDr replied to mrklaw's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Why not just use hinge plates? I'd think that would allow a large range of angles. You could attach them at the very least on the top and have them anchor on the bottom over tiles/+ a random stud along the pathway to give it some extra traction. I haven't tried that in real life, so I don't know how it would work, but hinge plates work great for angled walls I know. -
Bricks cracking... just from being connected to one another?
TheLegoDr replied to Endgame's topic in General LEGO Discussion
^Well you get spares because of the weight distribution and the machines that assemble the packages for the sets. Or something like that. They don't necessarily throw in spares because they expect you to crack them. Faefrost can explain this better than I can. It was mentioned above that a lot has to do with single stud connections, which makes sense since all the clutch is attached to that one brick. I have noticed all of my cracked pieces (which are a lot!) have come from single stud pieces. 1x1 plates, 1x1 bricks, 1x1 brick modified with stud on one side/two sides, 1x1 headlight brick, 1x4 arch (which has only the two single stud attachments), 1x1x2/3 cheese slope... I'm not sure why my collection is singled out. Everyone else in my LUG keeps responding they haven't found any cracked pieces, and they all live in the same town as me, so odd indeed. I guess my basement is a terrible environment for bricks to be in. I just made a rather large order of sand green cheese slopes for my mini-Hogwarts build and I'm sure they will all crack sooner or later. Definitely sucks. LEGO is in no way an investment for yourself, unless you can sell off sealed boxes to unsuspecting people... EDIT: And I have observed some cracking in my early 90s pieces from my childhood. But I've only seen headlight bricks to have cracks, and they were mostly white from what I could tell. If that is anything useful. -
Very well done. A good home for the Lion Knights! I like the angled structure and there is enough texture on the walls to avoid the big gray wall syndrome. Everytime I shy away from Castle building, builds like this pull me back in! I'm always juggling Modulars vs Castle vs HP stuff. This is inspiring and I may want to get back onto my big castle project. I like how this is all inclusive in one instead of just a wall section (like mine started out to be).

Looks great! I never was into trains, until I saw this. Sadly I missed out on it just after it discontinued!!! Maybe one day I'll bricklink it or something. I'll definitely add PF to mine too. I will probably just MOD my Hogwarts Express to accept PF instead.

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I don't have either of those theater companies near me, so off to bricklink maybe. As far as MOCs, I was told I've had a lego lamp in it and someone has George Washington crossing the Delaware. I'll wait and see if they are in the movie, but the local paper did an article with them in it. Keep in mind we are in the Lincoln/Omaha area, so basically the most populated area of Nebraska. Still, it's Nebraska.- 2,626 replies

No guarantees, but on a long enough timeline they might replace most pieces in future sets. The 5 high doors aren't "in system" anymore, so those will never be made again. But a good majority will either be in a future set OR they will modify it slightly for future sets (like the panels with the side supports, or the slopes with/without open stud, etc). Since I am modifying the CC, I needed an extra 16 dark red slopes..not fun. But BnP is the best place to look for most things first. I'm glad the parrots came back, although I put a 1x1 round brick and a 1x1 round cone (in dark bley) instead of the parrots and I think I like that better. But I did order the parrots to have them just in case I change my mind. To the above post, at least in my eyes, dark gray and dark bley are vastly different. Light gray and light bley are much closer in color, but you can still tell the difference. But I can spot dark gray out of dark bley right away. But I can also tell the difference between HD and standard definition. It seems some people can't tell the difference there...odd.

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I haven't been following this too much, but 3 people in my LUG have MOCs in the movie itself. They had to sign the rights to allow it to be used. Very interesting I thought. Especially considering we are in Nebraska of all places..- 2,626 replies

You people are silly getting all of the figures. I figure I have enough people from all of my other sets. I've ordered stuff from bricks and pieces and they told me they aren't available so couldn't include them in my order, yet they mailed them to me anyway. That was a nice surprise.

That looks really good! Good job keeping it all together like that. Good projector room. I'm still trying to think of how I want to modify mine with the outer Windows.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 Rumors & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
I ultimately like the set builds better this wave, but I liked the characters better in the first wave. I also only bought the right sets to have shredder, splinter, and the four turtles. And I picked up a few extra for soldiers, just to relive my youth of the 90s. I may pick up the cheapest set for the figures and then wait and see how the movie sets look. -
I believe this is why most people have switched to Flickr since it is loaded instantly. I've heard of another site called rebrick? That allows a Flickr like experience in a LEGO setting?? I've never used it. I prefer Flickr. Can't wait to see the end result.

^ I agree. You'll be in my thoughts. It's nice there are people like CopMike and raffles like this to keep people's spirits up.

Thank you for your support. I thought I commented on here with your initial comment, but I guess I didn't. I don't have any photos other than what is in Flickr. I also disassembled this almost immediately after the photos were taken, so I have no recollection of how pieces are together on the gas pump. I'm sorry. I do believe I built this to look decent in the photos, so I don't know how the top looks. I know I used one of those angled hinges that flips in the vertical axis. As far as the car, I just wanted an old timey looking vehicle that might mesh with the rest. I didn't take scale into account. The doors could use some support, but since I don't play with my creations, I didn't find it necessary. Thank you for your support. I'd love to see your winter village sometime!

Why are people fighting to pay more than it is worth?
TheLegoDr replied to Vee's topic in General LEGO Discussion
^ does the shipping directly constitute a drop ship scam? I'd think they wouldn't ship something unless it was tied to a billing address. But since I haven't tried shipping it elsewhere, I wouldn't know. That fits sounds like a lot of work for 10$ VIP, but if you did it enough that would still amount to free lego. -
I very well could be wrong. I just know there are a lot of pieces that have multiple id numbers, even some very recent ones (kingdoms pants from the nobleman in the joust set has two different id numbers). With sets as old as market street, I'd assume the pieces would have had different id numbers or different molds. Although with the new parrot in the metal beard set, I did notice they updated the cafe corner inventory, which surprised me. So it is possible it doesn't have a different id number, but I know the dark blue did. So with that, I'd again assume the inventory on the replacement page should be correct. However, there are certain updates to sets that may use either piece and usually bricklink will reflect that with alternate pieces, but the replacement page won't reflect that. So it is very possible the replacement page will use the new mold but not denote that. I know that happened with the 1x2x3 panels in the pet shop and cafe corner. CC had a different version, but it came with the new version in pet shop. So people were trying to swap them, but it wasn't original. That's why I always look at id numbers to make sure I have the original piece. You'd have to look at the instructions to get the actual number and not rely on lego replacement service/bricklink/brickset/peeron, etc. Best of luck to everyone building. I hope you are all satisfied with the pieces.

I still need that darth maul figure. That is perfect. I know how my cmf chicken will look like.

If you look at the replacement part service, there are a lot of pieces currently out of stock. Simple, random parts. They probably just ran out of their supply or it is low enough they can't guarantee enough supply so they put it on backorder until their new production run hits the mark. I've had plenty of missing pieces from brand new sealed sets, so lucky for you this is the only one you've experienced. Sometimes they will make me run through hoops to prove that I do indeed own the set (because I really want to screw TLG out of a 1x2 inverted slope...) and other times will send it without question. Very odd. I basically gave up asking for my free missing part because of the hassle. As far as ordering, I just ordered some bricks and pieces and the order went through fine. Then later they stated which pieces were out of stock, even though they were in stock at the time of purchase. Probably just a production supply issue. They'll send it to you when they can.

Set Restoration: Original (vintage) or new parts?
TheLegoDr replied to Yoshi648's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I've only ever purchased new pieces on bricklink, or "marked as new" to be exact. I'm sure some were older pieces in good enough condition they classified them as new. Either way, I agree. Just find a reputable dealer. I try to only deal with a few select stores that I've had success with in the past. I obviously browse through their feedback to make sure they seem to know what they are doing. But I want to put it on the record. I never damaged any of my toys as a kid. I was different. I never used teeth or knives or anything to pry apart two pieces. The only damaged LEGO I have are mismolds in the box, which in the early 90s and being about 10 years old I didn't know of any replacement service. -
Interesting design. I like the overall look to it, but I would prefer to see it taller! The awning I would switch to only cover the window, but good color usage I think. The lime green is an interesting choice. It works decent here, but maybe less lime green as a filler and more as an accent color? Keep up the good work!
