  1. I mistook the giant belt buckle for also having a sheriff star. Maybe I was also blending the LEGO Movie robot sheriff in also. I guess he was just a generic cowboy. Now I'm not as upset at having another sheriff, granted I do have the Lone Ranger sheriff, the LEGO movie sheriff, and the original one from the mid 90s.... Although I would prefer more western torsos/legs without signifying law accessories.
  2. If you think about it, even if the Museums set passed review, it would be branded IDEAS, not Creator Expert, so it wouldn't be another Modular release. Granted, I don't particularly find it that appealing. It doesn't have the same effect as the official Modulars (granted this goes for Market Street for me too). It doesn't fit in, in my opinion. But I do agree, it would need lots more color. Even a medium nougat instead of tan or something.
  3. ^I agree. By modifying an existing set it either becomes a MOC or a MOD, but not the actual set. I did conver the GG to a Sand Blue Grocer, and in doing so, I am not claiming to own the Green Grocer. I made other modifications that I felt were better, so it becomes a MOC/MOD for me. Oddly enough I do have all of the existing pieces in sand green outside of 20 of the groove bricks, so I could switch it to sand green if I wanted to, but I much prefer the sand blue color. The same goes for the Cafe Corner. Outside of the modern mods (door and windows) I have all of the pieces needed to build that set, yet I find myself MOC/MODing it differently. Although one could argue anytime you don't use the original pieces required it is not the official set. As in the dark red roof slopes on CC have a different element number and a different open/closed stud configuration on top. Therefore, if it is not the original version, then it isn't the official set, but a MOC/MOD.
  4. If it is the dwarf ballista, then it makes sense the size in the set. No wonder the building is such a small piece count and the ballista so large. It is supposed to make the dwarves tiny in comparison.
  5. It won't matter what passes review (unless the specified designers have the stock pieces/knowledge of paramters they need to follow) when designing it, the LEGO designers will change it. Nothing is safe. Nothing will get transferred 100%. So no matter what Minas Tirith passes into the review stage, it will change. I highly doubt it will get picked, mostly due to size (which looking at the other two large DC/Marvel builds likely not passing) doesn't bode well for another large set. I did support it to help push it along because I'd love more LOTR sets. But with my interest in the Hobbit fizzled and the movie nearing the end, I doubt they'd want to bring back this waste of a license. That sounds harsh, but I don't think anyone has cared about the toy license with Middle Earth from my understanding. Edit: Maybe LEGO will throw us a bone and put a Gondor soldier in the LEGO Movie 2 . But I don't see how they'd get the license to throw them together. Just a joking speculation to help fuel the fire from all of the other die-hards here.
  6. I think one main problem was not necessarily the quality of the plastic, but the printing effect. The red on white caused a lot of bleeding (pink) coloring. I haven't purchased any, but have considered it in the past.
  7. Superb. I really like how it looks on the outside. It stands out on its own, but vastly different than most other houses/castles that are being built. Something for me to aspire to. It is a nice touch to have the interior as it is, so you have a great full building from the front, and an accessible interior on the back. That is something I need to look into for some of my future builds. I am currently working on a larger scale castle, but the more I look at it the more I am unhappy with the overall effect. I would like to have something more similar to this with the housing aspect instead of a giant fortress and a nice interior that my daughter could play with. Thanks for sharing. I will look back for ideas/tips.
  8. Unexpected. I have yet to see the show, but most primetime shows I would assume wouldn't be worth licensing. Granted, this being a shorter production run, it won't be as widely available, so it will cater to the adult fans more easily than something sitting on the shelf at every retailer. I will definitely pick it up since I love new figures/prints. I may have to watch the show eventually if netflix or amazon prime ever get it for free instant.
  9. Seems like an interesting series. Overall (like all other CMFs) it seems a lot could be passable and a few must haves, but most likely I'll pick up a set. Duplicates will depend on the end cost (I assume it will still be $3.99). So I may have to limit that due to the extra cost. I don't see the purpose in spending $100 on one set plus a few extras...when I could put that $100 to fun sets with characters I actually care about. With that said, I love the new king. A new crown and new cape are most welcome. The beard is a nice touch too. The printing looks detailed, so that may be worthy of extras. The Space villain might be neat. The space trooper you can kind of see on the smaller box. It looks just like the one we had a few series ago with the wings, only in a different color.. The disco girl is welcome since I missed out on Disco Stu clone (I wonder if Simpsons CMF will come out with him). I am upset the western figure is another lawman. We already got a sheriff back in the early days of CMF didn't we? Either way, I do want some new western figures and I like the wanted poster. It looks like the evil wizard has the Dracula cape (similar to the good wizard cape from the last set, only in black) You can see it in the small box, but no discerning details otherwise. I like army builders, but I don't know what to think of the Egyptian since I only have the Cleopatra figure.
  10. ^Ha I love it. Very well done. I'm not sold on Calvin, but only because of shaping with LEGO is difficult. Hobbes is spot on though. This is such a well known pose for them, so it is very fitting to see it in LEGO form. Keep up the good work. My daughter has really gotten into C&H lately, I should look into reverse engineering this for her.
  11. I've seen 1x2 sand blue bricks before also. But just like Pet Shop, you can use the 1x2 sand blue groove bricks, but turn them around the other way. It isn't as aesthetically pleasing inside, but that's why I hid all of mine behind other things. Also, I doubt sand green will ever go away, but I can't say for sure if they'd bring out new sand green groove bricks. They are at least producing new colors in that same brick, so the mold is very much alive. Also, the new Smaug set has lots of sand green 1x4 and 1x2 it looks like (not as a parts pack, but at least another set with lots of that color).
  12. I think the real answer is: I don't find time to MOC. I must be terrible at time management (which I didn't think I was) but I can't squeeze even a few hours per week to do anything with LEGO, outside of getting on this website at times during my work hours. I get off of work at 6:30ish nightly, then any other errands I may have, then dinner, then hopefully some family time, then when that is all done, it is after 10:00 at night already, and I'm beat. I basically have time to think about LEGO in my free time, but never touch it. I try to sketch out plans, but it doesn't go as well as just putting the bricks together to see it in 3D. At the same time, affording pieces is nigh impossible. I have too many financial commitments, I can't really call this a hobby. I'm so far behind on set purchasing, I can't even begin to think of piece purchasing for projects. I did do LUGbulk this last year, and recently got the order in (after 10 months wait time), but I wasn't as excited after that amount of time. I bet I won't even find a use for most of those pieces, so that was a waste. I doubt I will do it again this year.
  13. Very cool. I have yet to see the movie, but since I am a minifigure collector, I will try to pick this one up. Multiples if possible (don't worry, not to sell for absurd amounts. I just like keeping some sealed for funsies. I have 5 LOTR Elrond polybags sealed still).
  14. My dream would be these guys. I'd love a whole army of the figures. Granted the bigfig would be cool too. But in CMF, these would be more likely with a soft rubber headpiece?
  15. Looks good! I like the pirate male torso, very similar to the classic look. The female pirate with the eyepatch looks like she will be a good figure. I saw that crocodile in the LEGO club magazine, but was unsure where it would come in with printing like that. So here it is. Thanks for the find!
  16. You'd think making all of the set boxes like the smaller versions with the thumb punch area to open it. They could cut it open somewhere and remove things, but then with tape on the box, it wouldn't be the manufactured way...granted, most people working the return area won't question anything, so it wouldn't matter. Short of requiring ID on all returns (like TRU) it might help catch a few people, but fake IDs are common/easy enough to acquire. There are a lot of figures I'd love to have that I don't want to buy the set, but I don't see the purpose of stealing the figures just because I can't afford/don't want the full set...but that must just be my moral fiber talking..
  17. One could imagine the minifigure line-up will be rehashes again though, just like all of the others. How often do they have a unique torso in the modulars?
  18. Their system has some glitches. It always has been like that. I've been using it for over 2 years now and I still see the same issues today that I did back then. I switched mine to 6 high doors. It is rather easy to implement. Plus it lines up with the rest of the modulars better (in my opinion) since all of the doors are the same height. I realize in real life, things vary, but in LEGO (in my life) I want everything fairly cohesive. Next step, kragle. Gongoro73- I've seen a flat fronted GG before. It definitely was not as appealing as the official grooved front. They add a surprisingly high amount of detail for some reason. But that isn't a bad idea. They are releasing that groove brick in new colors this next year, so maybe sand green will make a comeback? That was part of the reason I did a Sand Blue grocer back in May. Price was part of it, although I had most of the sand green bricks anyway, but I ended up just liking the sand blue color significantly more than sand green. I then ended up just converting the Pet Shop into a sand green version. I like that much more. One day, I'll finally get pictures of them...
  19. As much as I'd want to display mine behind some sort of protector, I wonder how would one get in there to play with it? Or tweak the interior details? I like the look at mine from all angles for the most part. I like to take off the levels and look inside and imagine what I'd do with the space. So having mine on shelves currently works out okay. But behind glass, I don't think that'd work for our household. Plus, my daughter likes playing with them, so I try to get them down for her at times. She currently has all of my pirate ships out, so I have them off the shelves...
  20. Nice! I really like the catapult loading mechanism. I know nothing of technic or motors, so this really impresses me. I don't particular care for the actual movement of the castle, but I like seeing the movement of the catapults, so kudos. Keep up the great work! That'd be fun at a show! (outside of hitting a kid's eye)
  21. It's interesting how different everyone is. I actually really liked Man of Steel. But that might have a little to do with Faora . But with any movie, there are flaws. I don't see it as "unwatchable" though. I only bought the figures separately though since I didn't care for the sets. But I'm more of a completionist for Super Hero figures, instead of actual sets. So 2015 will show great strain on my bank account considering how many new characters there will be!
  22. I received one yesterday and didn't see anything special about it. Maybe it is a regional thing? I'm also US.
  23. I think a lot of retailers have been having issues moving CMFs. The reason series 5 lasted so long because everyone was jumping on the CMF bandwagon and ordered WAY too much and were stuck with large supplies of them over the holiday season. They have since not stocked as many (at least in my local experience). With the larger pricetag on these (that most retailers probably weren't expecting to see) it might make product harder to move once again. Now in this situation you might have the holiday push to help keep the sets afloat with the higher pricetag, but come January/February with CMF series 13, I don't see the higher price helping anything.
  24. The flowerpot looks like this pot. I've always had problems with scale. This looks superb though! I'd love to try my hand at this sometime.
  25. As stated, the sets look decent. I didn't have any of the 2009 sets since I was still in the dark. So I will definitely pick these up. I like the prices that were stated somewhere (rumored?). The builds look decent enough. I really like the figure line up. I can't wait to amass a large army. With Pirates and Super Heroes being must buys, it's going to be an expensive year. So far 2012 has been my biggest year yet. 2013/2014 were pretty lackluster overall price wise...
