[MOC] The Dark Knight Vehicle Trilogy + New Tumbler
TheLegoDr replied to Simple1DEA's topic in LEGO Licensed
These are brilliant. I love seeing all of the MOCs of Batman. I think you captured the feel really well. That Bat looks great. I will have to check out those other pictures when I'm on a computer again. I love that tumbler. Any tips on how to build one or do you have any instructions for yours? Keep up the great work! -
The Hobbit movies is why the license was purchased at all I'm sure. The Hobbit movies allows current marketing away from the TLG, so they can join in on the sales of other companies. I can't imagine the theme lasting too much beyond the last movie, unless they re-release the LOTR movies in theaters or 3-D Blu-Ray or something that may help push it into people's lives. With that said, as great as Hobbit sets are selling, I've seen some on clearance here at Target. I would assume they were mismarked since the same thing happened last year with POTC sets immediately after they were released. (And same goes for POTC, if there is another movie, they will release more sets).

Nice re-breather comic. You could almost have Liam use his re-breather and simulate his Henry Ducard from Batman Begins when they are towards the end. Since it is a direct Liam to Liam comic.

Lego Superheroes 2013 Rumours & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
One could simply build their own hall of armor with stalls if the set does indeed only give a sticker. And War Machine looks pretty decent, but I can easily wait until the official sets since I will be getting them all anyway. And since I only own the Cosmic Cube Escape armor, I would imagine everything will basically be new to me. -
Thanks for posting. They seem pretty spot-on for mini scale. I can't wait to see how closely TLG does theirs. I may have to look at those instructions and build my own version. Keep up the good work.

I agree. I would like more pose-ability with the arms (I've seen some flex tubing, which is neat), but overall I wouldn't want to change anything. I think they are working just fine, especially for the length of time the minifigure has been around. I think it would be hit and miss with the arm joints losing their articulation. I have some minifigures from the last 3 decades and some are tight and some are loose, with and without playing with them. So I'm sure a ball-socket joint would be the same way. Might as well not mess with it. And I recall as a kid just making the figures bounce around as if they were walking instead of making their individual legs move, so pose-able short legs wouldn't do much for me. But I can understand why some people would like it. And it's nice enough that they exist at all.

Well, TLG would have to design a whole new mold for torsos and then have to have a new machine to print on that part (or maybe China has one already?). So even if TLG didn't want to promote breasts to little children, they'd have a heck of a time implementing it. Although, I can completely understand why they didn't do it since the target audience probably doesn't have breasts yet themselves. For the most part, I would imagine it is pre-pubescent kids playing with this toy. And if they want boobs, they can play with Barbie. But I bet there will be a third party seller willing to create these for AFOLs, similar to the more cut-out torso for females to make them curvier.

Thank you for the review. I like looking at some of the Friends sets for useful pieces for me or for fun play sets for my little one. I agree that pink isn't overboard here, so it's funny how people can be up in arms about it. And the pink is quite easily modifiable here. I like the shape of the roof, although a magenta roof would be rare anywhere other than Heartlake City. I agree about that sign. I do like that new shape. I'm sure it will be usable in many MOCs for a lot of people. I'm still debating on if I need one for my city layout or not. And I've never heard the word plait before. I had to look it up to see that it meant braid. I thought it would have been a certain type of braid or something, but I guess just braid in general.

I would expect a flood of entries at the last second so they can be "fresh" in the voter's minds. At least, that is what I would do if I was building one. With that said, maybe I should start building . If there really are only a few entries, then I may finally win something on EB! J/k...

How Legend of Chima could improve The Black Pearl?
TheLegoDr replied to lego_legis_legere's topic in Pirate MOCs
Neat. I was planning on doing that as well. Those little feather pieces don't do it justice. I was wondering if these would be too big, but it looks like on your larger MOC it fits great. I wonder what the original looks like with them since it is a smaller scale. -
The lodge looks very neat. The stone work is good and I really like the stone patio/walkway out front. Clever use of the ninjago snake for smoke. And I really like the 1x2 grill piece as shutters by the windows. I hadn't considered that before. I think you blended stone with wood quite nicely, so I may need to take some cues of that for some castle building I'll be doing. My main qualms are the lady by the fountain (she must be freezing!). And then the MOC not being on a white floor/cloth/paper of some sort, just to add the illusion of some more snow on the ground. It looks too melted as it is right now. But overall it looks great. Good luck on your entry. I still need to submit mine. There is way too much good competition this year!

REVIEW: 10937 Batman: Arkham Asylum Breakout
TheLegoDr replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
Overall I think Arkham looks great, but if you buy it solely for the minifigures, you would definitely be upset. I agree on the repeats, but the new figures are beautiful. I will end up buying this in the long run I think, but I will probably wait until I get other sets first. I love the structure of the building, but I'm sure I'd mod it to be more of a complete building instead of play features, since I won't be playing with it. -
Mine is essentially what I look like at my job. And the name fits with it. I had a different version earlier, but halfway through last year my wife wanted me to grow a beard, so my new figure has a beard too. Now we just need a bearded redhead figure with black rim glasses and we'll be set.

Finally got my hands on a decent priced shirtless Darth Maul polybag. Now the question is to keep it sealed or open it to display with the rest of my SW figures. And on a (very expensive) whim I finally bought the SDCC Jean Gray figure. I originally wasn't planning on spending that kind of money, but I've been really into Super Heroes lately, so I bit the bullet. Thankfully I had some Christmas money to spend.

You captured what I would expect that part of the world to look like. Great job. Keep up the good work.

Buying parts from the Customer service
TheLegoDr replied to Navy Trooper Fenson's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I've contacted them before and they only can handle a limited number of pieces they told me. So I think it is designed to help replace lost/broken pieces in existing sets that you own so you can continue to enjoy them/build them as intended. They may replace existing bricks, but no specifically licensed figures/pieces. And they do try to direct you to pick a brick, because that is where TLG is set up to sell actual pieces to the public. So I agree, it is intended for a specific purpose. Hopefully too many people don't bug them about it wanting it the other way because I'd hate to lose out on such good customer service options. -
I'm with everyone else. I love these MOCs. They are beautiful and blend well together. You did a great job with 8 wide buildings. My concern, I'd love to see them in 16 wide. I may have to "borrow" some of these ideas and start building my own 16 wide versions. I just built the Pet Shop and fell in love with the smaller scale modulars, but I fear 8 wide may be too small for my liking. However, you've done an amazing job with these. The brick-built doors are neat and I love the window detailing. Keep up the amazing work. I will definitely check back on this post for inspiration.

That looks really neat. I think you captured the feel for the most part. I'd almost think a few subtle changes could be made, but I don't have the time to pour over the details right now. But great attempt. Keep up the good work.

That is a neat rendition. I think for the most part you nailed it. I'm not digging the Town Hall tall pillars for some reason, but the rest of the build is spot on. The gas station is really neat and I think the cinema is perfect.

It definitely does look like a long snout wolf. However, using dragons as set names would assume that it is indeed a dragon. Although there is a dog (wolf) in the small set, so that is interesting. Either way, that particular shield isn't too appealing. However, I will wait to see final pictures before I make the end-all judgment. But I am hoping it continues to look this poor because then I won't feel bad not getting the sets. I keep wanting TLG to release less good stuff so I can start to save some money on this hobby.

Interesting use of pieces. I used to love Blacktron back in the day, so this brings back fond memories. I think the scale is very fitting for what you are going for. Keep up the good work!

Age of Steam - Heroes of the Realm
TheLegoDr replied to Hammerstein NWC's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
This is very interesting. I know very little about steampunk stuff. I attended a steampunk party this last year and had no idea what I was doing. Everyone was dressed up in the appropriate attire. My wife guided me, so I think it worked out. But I still have no idea. But these are awesome figures. I love what you did with them. Great use of pieces and combination of parts. -
Lego Superheroes 2013 Rumours & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
I agree that they wouldn't release another Hulk movie anytime soon due to the previous releases. Although I liked the Edward Norton version. But I think they did the best with him in Avengers. With that said, I still don't expect another Hulk figure anytime soon. As far as a preorder bonus, with speculation I'd love a purple Hawkeye. But a part of me hopes it is another lame figure like the Lex Luthor, that way I won't have to buy the game early and wait for a sale.
