  1. As someone who had no trains previously, I remember complaining about the Hogwarts train not coming with track pieces for display. Everyone quickly defended LEGO's decision to do so and quite frankly made me feel foolish for asking. So I bought a track pack for $12.99 and used 4 straights or 1/4 of the packs contents. To be honest I would have just rather have paid an extra $3 for the set instead but no biggie, at least now I have track pieces for the next one or plenty of extra track if I actually ever buy a train set.
  2. Actually, not defending the set, after seeing the picture @Scarilian posted, I can see where they were going with that compound set. They just didn't go far enough, anyway, still I guess I don't think it's as horrible as some are letting on as. It is a bit city like and the vehicles are a bit small. Not sure I would want to pay much more for a larger set though and will be glad to get the garage door and 2 bigfigs.
  3. I know one thing I would rather see, instead of giant one and done sets, I would like to see more sets that can be combined to make a huge set. Something you could endlessly add onto without it looking incomplete if you were lacking a few of the sets would be great. I know it is wishful thinking none the less I would love it. I guess City is kind of like that now but I would like actual connection points to add to the set making them seamlessly fit together.
  4. So I picked up this set a couple of weeks ago, didn't really want it but it was 50% off, I never pass on a set at that price. It has a large number of pieces so it's a perfect set for mods and yours looks great, really like the whole idea of a modular type building. You have given me some great ideas here, thanks. Did you have a large number of pieces left over?
  5. Absolutely I did, though after coming out of my dark age, I don't really have that viewpoint anymore. In fact it is one of the things that keeps me from drifting into a second dark age.
  6. Fantastic, I look forward to seeing your mods, it is a great idea and a way to give the number 5 car some competition, until LEGO gets around to it, if ever. I find it a bit strange that it is an obvious NASCAR vehicle, yet TLG puts forth no such claim. I know NASCAR is very picky about their brand probably more so than LEGO. Edit; I believe the number 5 car was officially retired last year, after being run since NASCAR started, maybe that is how TLG pulled it off.
  7. Funny I did the same thing, the back tyres wouldn't go on all the way though, without modifying the inner fender walls a bit, mostly it was hitting on a black connector. That is actually what got me looking at this set again. I do think those rims don't look right on that car, style wise anyway. I do love those rims though and can see myself using them extensively in other MOCs.
  8. Really like the recolor, enough so to maybe realize it in real bricks, although maybe black. It does look like the three 2x4 plates on top of the front fender should all be shifted back one stud though.
  9. So I have been looking at this model sitting on my shelf now for about a month. With each passing day I dislike it more and more, orange car yes, Corvette no. This set just doesn't live up to what it is supposed to represent. To me not only does it look bad but if you "play" with it the wheels will fall off and the HOG steering is inconveniently located making it even harder to play with. I am glad I got it though just for the parts, although since it is a licensed set it wasn't very economical. I dislike this set so much it now goes into the vast parts bin, never again to see the light of day. Maybe I will take a stab at a B model for a week or so first though. I think LEGO should refrain from trying to recreate licensed Technic car sets at this scale it just doesn't work out right.
  10. While that is true, he didn't make another NASCAR car he turned it into a street car with Ford branding. I think it would be great to make it into a different race car, in fact I may just do that. Maybe change some colors and a different number, change it into a Mustang NASCAR cool idea, thanks.
  11. In all fairness he said he didn't like them all, not he didn't like any of them. I too bought them all but I don't like all of them. And I agree Sanctum Sanctorum was a great set for me.
  12. Forgive me if has already been mentioned, I have been following this thread the best I can. Does anyone know what part that round spinning thing is under the wings of the Quinjet, motorcycle wheels maybe, or more likely radar dishes?
  13. Ah my personal favorite builds as well. I think to start 42094 Tracked Loader is great set, relatively inexpensive and a good parts pack, with decent functions. Also I think 42079 Fork Lift is a good set and has a good B model as well, thinking of getting a second one as a matter of fact. I guess the crane is a good set too, I just don't have it so I can't say. We also have 42100 to look forward to in August, can't wait.
  14. And by reading some of the posts, it's easy to conclude that many others are a bit younger as well. Also I wouldn't broadcast that fact too much as it goes against forum rules, although there is a bit of leeway allowed for respectable posters. I don't care so much for leaks but I too am getting antsy for some pictures of the new wave of sets since we had so many great ones this last go round.
  15. Congratulations and welcome to the world of LEGO. I think for the most part the sets are not really that challenging to build although they maybe somewhat complex none the less. Building your own creations or another person's moc will probably be far more challenging. As far as which sets to buy for parts building, you have to ask yourself what sort of models you want to build. Then you can decide what sort of parts you need to stock up on. Many recommend buying the really big sets for parts however I like doing it with small to medium sized sets instead, I just have a hard time parting out the big sets because I like them as they are for the most part. Sets that I think are good parts packs I usually buy multiple copys of, especially the smaller ones. So what sort of stuff are you interested in building?
  16. I used to pick up a cup everytime I went to the LEGO store 2 or 3 times every couple of months, that is. Here lately though it just seems like the selection has been frozen in time and I seldom find any interesting or unique pieces, wish they would bring back that monthly build thing. Now I almost even forget the PAB wall is even there, must remind myself to check it out next time I go in there. Is it just me or have others noticed the same thing?
  17. Okay I get it, want to make a street version of the Camero but to call it a Mustang seems a bit weird, to me anyway, still looks like a Camero.
  18. Well I do have the "new" one but unfortunately I don't have the old one so I can't really say if they are the same. I will see if I can dig up some good images of the older one for comparison and see if I can spot any differences.
  19. What a spiffy looking machine, I can only echo everyone else's sentiments and say superb job on this creation. Not only is it huge but it looks very good, spot on and as a bonus it boogies like no other. Another vote for HoF.
  20. Worked out pretty good, looks like the real deal, good job on the modification. I honestly have no feelings on the matter of someone modifying their own pieces, to each their own I suppose. Me I wouldn't do it because I am trying to build a respectable sized collection and I would hate to modify a part only to need it later in its original form. I also enjoy trying to accomplish something with only what's available. When I first came out of my dark age I naively thought I would just buy 5 or 6 sets and build anything I wanted, thanks to free online official instructions from LEGO. Oh what a laugh, now with over 300 sets I still don't have all the parts I want or need. TLG does a very good job of making sure every set has a certain amount of not so common parts. So I very much understand the concept of parts modification, just not for me. Still well done and looks like it came straight from LEGO factory in its present state.
  21. Amazing how you manage to accomplish all those shapes and still maintain functionality. I do like those tyres and I see they are only available from older sets, has the rubber held up all this time? I only ask because I would like to get some but I remember that the rubber tyres from my childhood would split and dry out, which was in the seventies.
  22. It does seem a bit unorthodox but, and I could be wrong here, I think it isn't so much to get people more involved but more to keep spam bots from flooding users mailbox.
  23. Sounds like a good of a guess as any. I would certainly buy it but man does LEGO like their Space Shuttles or what, I mean it seems like there is always one available in one theme or another and of different variants. I find it hard to believe there is so much interest in the Space Shuttle any more, but I am glad there is.
  24. So now you have a Chevrolet Camero with Ford Mustang branding?
