  1. Many of these features you long for would prove to be quite unsafe for children, cranes able to lift large loads could also strangle little Johnny, heavy fast moving vehicles could also break little Johnny's fingers, toes or even kill the cat. These are real dangers LEGO must take into consideration if they wish to remain in business for any length of time. That is the beauty MOCs though, we are free to be as unsafe as we choose.
  2. One thing I like to do for ideas, is ride my bicycle around the city and take pictures of various construction jobs and try to replicate them in LEGO. If you live in a fairly large city the possibilities are endless. Other than that you can hardly go wrong with cranes, bulldozers, loaders, trucks or a myriad of other stuff both large and small, and as already suggested the internet is full of construction equipment images.
  3. I normally don't care one way or the other but it just seems to defy all logic that there is no minifig with that Hoth GWP set, since it has the 20th anniversary boxart. I mean that is the whole deal with those sets an exclusive retro figure, right.
  4. Yes with Target they have many different polybags available at a time, however they are situated at the checkout lines, not with the rest of the LEGO. Walmart has them as well though not as much variety, with the rest of the sets. With Target I also check the clearance area in the toy department, I picked up a bunch of Friends polybags for 40% off just yesterday. Good parts packs if nothing else. edit: Actually just broke my all time record 80% off 72005 at Target today. $10 for 569 pieces not to bad, the set isn't all that good but has loads of useful parts.
  5. I buy a lot of my LEGO from Target, regardless of what the shelf price is half the time it is much cheaper from their online store. They will price match the cheaper online price at the actual Brick & Mortar store all you have to do is ask and sometimes they will ask to see proof but they can check themselves as well. I save gobs of money this way and really don't understand why some people just seem to be afraid to even ask. I usually just tell the cashier at the register but have been occasionally told that I need to go to guest services desk. I normally get 20% or more off. Once I even got 60% savings. Also they generally have a very good selection of sets even some exclusives. In fact they just had a sale where if you spent over $50 on LEGO you got a $10 gift card, coupled with 20% off that is pretty good in my book, which is why my VIP points status is so low. Edit: I do check out Walmart as well as their prices tend to be slightly less than Target's, it just seems their selection is a bit more sparse and their sales are hit or miss. You may find a really good deal one day but not the next.
  6. I like all those options and I am glad that LEGO sees fit to offer so many different sets so that hopefully there is something for everyone's taste. I imagine no matter what they do though there will always be some who will be critical of their offerings.
  7. I guess I am somewhat of a throwback, I have no use for any digital designs, I am very much enjoying the physical aspect of building with bricks to me that is what it is all about. However if others enjoy digital building, good for them, I am glad they found something they like, no reason to insult me though. Enjoy.
  8. Ah this again, I still feel that none of the official sets are particularly difficult or hard for one who is able to follow instructions that is. If you want a real challenge MOC is where it's at.
  9. Just what I needed, another reason not to buy the 6x6 All Terrain Tow Truck. Wait that has always been my reason.
  10. I think it is more a case of "LEGO is listening more to what customers want" thing, still I wouldn't hold out to much hope.
  11. And then we have Hidden Side, should be plenty of play features/functions there.
  12. Yes I expect it is going to be more than $140 probably more like $200.
  13. Yes, I saw this Friends City Restaurant earlier, and I must say, I actually like it, maybe my first Friends set I buy.
  14. Strangely feel the need to own all of these space sets, hearkens back to my childhood memories of the space race. People really should be living on the moon by now. I always wanted to be an astronaut when I was a little kid, big-time.
  15. This will be the first ever people pack I buy, I actually really like this one. Edit: Not to sure about those people running around laughing and joking with the alien head on a stick though. Also looks like the launch tower is about to put an end to the astronauts fun roller coaster ride, on the other set.
  16. Wow looks really good, maybe just a bit to long and I don't really care for those tires. Not sure which ones would be better though, also like the handlebar piece as windscreen. Still amazing build, enough so that I may try my hand at recreating it.
  17. That would indeed be super cool and he definitely has the parts to pull it off. However I would suggest for a first MOC go for something a little simpler, perhaps a manual 4 wheel drive off roader or even a less complex model. I only say keep it simple because you are far more likely to actually complete it, at least that is how it works for me. It always seems to complicate itself as you build anyway. Many are the grand builds I plan only to become overwhelmed after a few weeks of not much progress, mostly building up and tearing down over and over, trying to get it right. Whatever you choose good luck and keep us posted on your progress.
  18. Strange how they keep referring to it as a building game.
  19. It is the method of doing so that is new and is what I am most looking forward to. Edit: to be clear and I am not sure if this will be realized in this set but I imagine curling the bucket, raising the arm and turning the upper structure all at the same time would offer an aspect of realism that has rarely if ever been seen before in a moc.
  20. To me one of the more interesting aspects of this set and nobody else seems to care or notice, is the ability to operate several different functions simultaneously. I can imagine what a difference that would make in many other creations. To me this will be a real game changer and the start of a new way of doing things. It will be hard for me to justify buying such a large set as well, since I usually skip them but I would like to be an early adopter of the new smart hubs, which this set will have two of. I really do think this is going to open up huge possibilities for the future of Technic building. Of course I could be wrong, still to me this is the most exciting thing about this set.
  21. Wow quite impressive how densly packed with functions that assembly is so far, looks like great fun. A minor thing to keep in mind, for future assembly of multiple universal joints, line the slots up on the U-joints so that they are on the same spline of the axle, you will have smoother operation. This is how it is done on real machinery.
  22. Blasphemer, no seriously I guess that is why we are so lucky that LEGO has so much diversity in their product line, something for everyone's taste. I have said it before though I don't think because a person doesn't particularly like a specific theme is a justifiable reason to terminate said theme.
  23. I have never bought a blind bag but I have felt up a few and it is pretty easy to guess what figure they contain if you have prior knowledge of what characters and accessories are in them, so it really can't be that hard to get what you want. I always figured they did the blind bag thing so that all the figures would sell, where as if you knew what figure was contained within they would be left with a stack of undesirable figures, which I guess would be considered sneaky and underhanded by some. Man I hated those machines I was always a sucker and you would never get any of the cool stuff they had on display. So I guess I am one of the people that has no use for a Minifigure unless it comes with a build, why I am not sure. I am guilty of buying a recent Iron Man poly-bag though that has a really small insignificant side build, Dum-E. I honestly don't try to over think why I buy certain sets, if I like it I get it, regardless of what figures it contains or what popular opinion of said set is. A review has never made me get or not get a set, in fact I actually usually read reviews after I get the set. I do look for cool parts though.
  24. Exactly how I feel about it as well, the recent Captain America set springs instantly to mind. Comes with Capt. America a small crappy motorcycle and 4 outriders, turns a $12 set into a $20 set.
  25. See first quote, discounted not discontinued, I picked up one of these recently for the same reasons. I have also picked up 3 of the 20th anniversary sets, only 2 to go, really looking forward to getting the Slave 1 set since I have no Slave 1 ships yet. Do people think these sets will be only a short run or limited supplies or worse hugely popular, making them hard to find. I really do want them all but I will have to wait a couple of months before I can buy the Slave 1 set and I really don't want to miss out. It seems like the Dropships and Walker are flying off the shelves, around here anyway.
