  1. I am sure it will not be labeled UCS, nor should it. However that will not prevent people from calling it just that. I am also digging this set and very much want it, however I will wait until we learn a little bit more about it before deciding whether to buy it or not, I will continue to save for it none the less.
  2. I do think that is too much of angle for U-joints, except for the most rudimentary of motions. I think gears would be a better option, more specifically knob gears would probably be your best.bet. Or you could use two more U-joints and half the angle in doing so.
  3. A very simple mod I did, immediately after I completed the build. Concerning the blue pins on the black part under the doors the running boards or steps whatever they are called. I simply capped them off with 1x smooth plates. It looks much better to me, although it does make the final width slightly enlarged. I did try cheese slopes too but didn't really care for the end result.
  4. Well it is part of the set and the first set to feature it but I do see your point. I feel confident that as the control + system matures it will get some sort of remote, fingers crossed. I do like the idea of some sort of joystick the most though, if only because when I operate an RC vehicle I like to watch or concentrate on the vehicle itself and operate the remote by feel. This is all just a minor issue for me though as I will likely just buy a second very economical phone just for this set, which I am very stoked for and have already started saving for, $30 yeah. This will be the most I have ever spent on LEGO, I rarely spend over $100 for a set, so saving up is essential for me. I am really looking forward to learning more about this set in the next few months, and I hope it lives up to all the hype.
  5. I think this is a great idea and would love for LEGO to actually have this as an option as PU matures.
  6. Describes me as well, I have bought many many sets that I don't even care for, just to get the bricks. I have never bricklinked anything. Strange, the direction this thread is headed.
  7. Killer, what a great build and idea. I wouldn't be surprised to actually see something like this come to fruition in the real world. Please keep your arms in the ride at all times!
  8. Says to 12 year old nephew, sorry you have to be 16 to play with this. Albeit a $500 joy.
  9. I am actually grateful for smartphone control. My main concern is, I have a shoe box full of 20 year old computer games that are unusable, some of them are still fun to play, unfortunately unless you have an unsupported antique computer, they are bricked. I would hate to see that happen to a 20 year old LEGO set as I am sure the smartphone as we know it will not be around in twenty years. Of course for me this is a non issue as it is highly unlikely that I will be around either. Plenty of people still find enjoyment though with 20+ year old LEGO sets.
  10. In my humble opinion, if all you can do with it is play with it, it's a toy. If it makes you money or performs a specific function, it's a tool. If it does both, well nevermind.
  11. Have to say, I agree wholeheartedly with @Faefrost as far as Speed Champions is concerned and honestly can't see how anyone could possibly think otherwise. I continue to be amazed that they seem to be getting better and better each year instead of being just stale and repetitive.
  12. While I don't think they should necessarily end the Star Wars theme, I do think it would benefit from a short break 2 or 3 years maybe. I of course realize this is not about to happen though.
  13. Now all you need to do is take your planes to a mountain or hillside location that has an updraft, ideally a hang glider launch pad. Then watch them sail into the wild blue yonder.
  14. Yes and since there are more smartphones on the planet than people it shouldn't be that hard for anyone to acquire one if they don't already have one, including small children. However I personally just don't like that you should have to not only buy one but also pay monthly just so you can play with a toy. Believe me I understand everyone already has a phone and soon will be given one at birth. It is only my worthless opinion that a $500 toy should have everything to make it work, out of the box.
  15. There is actually quite a lot of conversation about it over in the Technic sub-forum as it relates to the new soon to be released flagship set.
  16. Time for me to rack up a lot more VIP points, I think that will be the only way I can swing the price and I do feel I will be buying this. Of course I'll look for some reviews first, I really hope they are all favorable. Size wise it looks like a Speed Champions vehicle will fit in the bucket, if I am seeing things correctly. Also think I will be buying a cheap throw away phone, for use as only a remote for all my new Technic RC sets, not too thrilled about it not having a controller that comes with the set but I understand why so I will just live with it.
  17. Hmm maybe they should make some plates and bricks with small holes in the side that you could insert a Minifigure hand into for use as a clip.
  18. Very cool, one of the few things I remember from living in Berlin as a small child, way back in 1967, The Bombed Out Church. That and the Berlin zoo, strange how certain things stick with you all your life, I was only 5 years old.
  19. Actually the original topic was just about the battery pack and remote, as often happens though the thread has slightly derailed.
  20. So much for the theory that the breakage problem with brown clips has been addressed. On a positive note though none of mine have broke yet.
  21. Well that seems odd, if it is DBG, I have 35 loose, probably many more in assembled sets and gobs of them in red.
  22. Can you not simply slide that long black lift arm, the one with the yellow arrow print on it forward or backwards until the yellow connectors line up properly?
  23. And yet it gets the largest bin. Don't think you misunderstood at all. Curious, what color is that? I wonder how many I have, if any.
  24. No complaints from me, I am quite enjoying my hobby and reading every one's opinion, as I clearly stated in the part of my post you chose not to quote.
